Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Myaamiacenter", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are permitted to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people, and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, or website, regardless of your username. Please also read our paid editing policy and our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please request a change of username, by completing this form, choosing a username that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. Melcous (talk) 10:59, 8 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Alexf(talk) 11:52, 8 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Edits were made yesterday to correct the link to the Myaamia Center's web page under external resources on the pages Miami-Illinois Language, Miami Tribe of Oklahoma, and Daryl Baldwin, because the Center's website URL has changed. In addition, this account is being used by Jonathan Fox, Director of Communication & Publication at the Myaamia Center, to ensure accuracy of information on the aforementioned pages. The website edits and this account are in no way intended promote or advertise on behalf of the Myaamia Center, Miami University, or the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma. Apologies for the misunderstanding. I am unblocking in view of the discussion below. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 19:08, 9 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock discussion[edit]

Hello. No call on the "promotional editing" part of the block, though your explanation for the link sounds reasonable to me. However, you must have a username that represents an individual-- as explained at Wikipedia:Username policy#Sharing accounts, groups may not have Wikipedia accounts. To request a new user name, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. You will probably need to affirm you will not edit the articles related to your organization directly. You may request/suggest edits. (Please see WP:COI and WP:PAID.) Have you any interest in editing in any other areas of WIkipedia than the ones you fixed the ex-links to?--Dlohcierekim (talk) 18:50, 8 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, my username has been changed already! As the Myaamia Center itself doesn't currently have a Wiki entry, I will not be doing any self-edits, but as far as editing in other areas is concerned, there are various disciplines represented amongst the staff here, including linguists, who will likely provide me with information for editing pages on Algic languages. --eewikiaanki (talk) 18:50, 8 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Alexf: The user name issue has now been dealt with, and I have checked every edit from this account, and not one of them looks at all promotional to me. Clearly the editor needs to be aware of the conflict of interest guideline, the need for disclosure of paid editing if any, and the fact that the account should be used only by one person. However, beyond that, I see no problem, and no reason why the account should not be unblocked. Do you have any comment to make? The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 21:11, 8 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@JamesBWatson: If the user declares understanding of COI issues and paid editing disclosure, I have no further issues after the rename. -- Alexf(talk) 23:11, 8 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Jonathan, in the light of what has been said above, I am willing to unblock you if you will confirm that you have looked at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure, that you are aware of the essential nature of what they say, and that you agree to abide by them. (I stop short of saying that you need to have read and digested every word of them, because in my opinion they are too long and complex for you to be required to do that before continuing to edit.)
  • If you post a message saying that, then I suggest you ping me, so that I know that you have posted here. As a new editor you very likely don't know about Wikipedia's "ping" facility, so here is an explanation. When you post a message, include {{Ping|JamesBWatson}} in that message. Also, end your message with four tildes (i.e. ~~~~). The Wikimedia software will automatically replace the ~~~~ with a signature showing who posted the message, and will also send me a notification that there is a message for me. (Note: The {{Ping}} and the ~~~~ have to both be in the same post. It won't work if you post just one of them and then edit again to put the other one in.) I understand the issues that I was involved with, and appreciate the explanations of what steps to take to resolve them. Hopefully I can get the hang of all the tagging and such.@JamesBWatson:Eewikiaanki (talk) 18:00, 9 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I was hoping that you would explicitly state that you have looked at the two pages I linked to, but in the context I am taking your message as implying that you have, and on that basis I shall unblock your account.
