User page[edit]

The user page is where one can introduce him/herself.--Megaman en m (talk) 01:37, 17 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Re: User page[edit]

Hello megaman, How does this whole talk/user page thing work? Like, how did you respond to my question just a minute after I posted it?

Thank you, Mydude123 (talk) 02:13, 17 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Basically, if you want to get a message to someone, you put it on their talkpage. When they next open a new page (or refresh one), a yellow banner appears. Article talkpages are looked at by people who watch the article (I've got a few such on my watchlist), or people visiting the article. You are very new, so your edits come up in lists - mainly the 'all edits' list and the 'edits by new accounts' list, which is where I used to work before becoming an admin. The patrolling of these lists is very important to Wikipedia, as it enables us to filter out junk before most people get to see it. As to your userpage - look at the ones belonging to several other editors. Don't copy one - but you can pinch ideas. The userpage is for telling the rest of us (OK, those who come across you and are curious...) a bit about yourself. Don't include address and phone number. That isn't a good idea. Nor is email address. Look at WP:USERPAGE for info on what is and is not OK. It's not compulsory to have one anyway. It is allowed to copy the things called userboxes, but only use appropriate ones. Do not put ones up that claim things like being an admin or rollbacker until you are given these rights. Don't claim level 4 in Slobodian unless you are able to translate Slobodian very well. (That's why I only claim level 2 in French and don't mention any other languages...). Don't put any pics up that are copyright or or dubious origin. And don't put up too many pics. Anyway, welcome to Wikipedia. Never be afraid to ask questions. Peridon (talk) 12:10, 17 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
