Thank you for the information. I will correct. Newton61 (talk) 04:08, 26 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

May 2023[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Isabelle Belato. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Dylan Mulvaney have been undone because they did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Teahouse or the Help desk. Thanks. Introduction to contentious topics[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to gender-related disputes or controversies or people associated with them, a topic designated as contentious. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially-designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Appealing Block[edit]

I edited the page because the individual was born a man. Once he transitioned I left everything the same. He was a man before his transition, so don't understand how a 1 year ban is appropriate. I did not purposely do anything contentious. I apologise to all that were affected. It was an honest mistake and it will not happen again. Newton61 (talk) 17:31, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Newton61. You are not blocked, so there is nothing to appeal. I reverted your edit and left you a warning so you'd avoid repeating it, and C.Fred left you a notification about the contentious topic system we have in place. You can keep editing Wikipedia, including the page about Dylan Mulvaney, you just need to be more careful about it. Isabelle Belato 🏳‍🌈 17:35, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Isabelle Belato it says my IP address is blocked for 1 year. Tried to copy and post the page that says I'm blocked. Please help. Newton61 (talk) 18:26, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, it seems the block has been removed. Thank you. Have a nice weekend! Newton61 (talk) 18:30, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Just tried to send this to you;

@Isabelle Belato Thank you for your help. Have a nice weekend! Newton61 (talk) 18:33, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
For more information, and if you are still having issues, read Wikipedia:IP block exemption, which explains how you should proceed in cases like this. Hope that helps. Isabelle Belato 🏳‍🌈 18:33, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Isabelle Belato will do, thank you. I just tried to create a user information page and got the same "IP Address Blocked" message. I will look into "Wikipedia:IP block exemption". Newton61 (talk) 18:46, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

IP Address Blocked[edit]

I sent a message earlier explaining my changes. I apologized, as I did not intend to make "Contentious" changes. Right now, I'm blocked for a year. That seems a bit excessive. Please consider unblocking me. Thanks, Tarkenton Newton61 (talk) 18:23, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not knowing the IP makes it impossible to help you. Please see WP:LOUTSOCK UTRS appeal #73092 is open. @Isabelle Belato: can you help me to help this user? Best -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 20:38, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Deepfriedokra I tried to cut and paste the IP, but was unable on my mobile. I will send from my laptop. @isabelle Belato said there was not a block. But, there is with certain functions. Again, I will send my IP from my laptop. Newton61 (talk) 20:54, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
My condolences on trying to edit with your mobile. I find it hard to do so. Your mobile and your home internet will probably have different IP's -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 20:58, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Deepfriedokra: Left a comment at the appeal. Not sure I can of be much more help, but to me it seems like they got caught by an IP range block. Isabelle Belato 🏳‍🌈 21:02, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Isabelle Belato what is an "IP range block"? And, can't it be cancelled? Newton61 (talk) 21:05, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm just shocked by the 1 year block. I did not post anything vulgar or salacious. Newton61 (talk) 21:10, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's not necessarily that you did; however, somebody using the IP did. If it's a mobile provider, it could be anybody in your city, or possibly a wider geographical area. —C.Fred (talk) 00:25, 7 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@C.Fred then, what can I do? Certainly, somehow the suspension could be cancelled or reduced. Correct? Newton61 (talk) 20:00, 7 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If it's a one-year block, it's for reason. —C.Fred (talk) 22:50, 7 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Deepfriedokra I will just go to my laptop and provide the needed code. It should trace back to my mobile IP address. Newton61 (talk) 21:07, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Assuming the block is preventing you from editing via your account, I'll give you IP block exemption. You'll need to purge your browser cache and wait 24-48 hours for the system to clear. Will see if this works. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 20:31, 7 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Deepfriedokra I think "purge your browser" means delete all history on my phone, correct? Thank you for the exemption. FYI, I've only used my mobile to access/edit Wikipedia. Newton61 (talk) 21:38, 7 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Deepfriedokra ok just cleared all history via Android. Newton61 (talk) 21:42, 7 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Deepfriedokra, okay, I cleared my browser 3 times. Then restarted my phone. Hopefully, the issues are no more. Thanks for your help!! Newton61 (talk) 21:53, 7 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
your welcome might need to wait so the system forgets to block you -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 23:18, 7 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
