Mumbai bot[edit]

Last year, you had requested a bot for Mumbai neighbourhoods. I had made a AWB feature request at WP:AWB/FR. It has been a long wait...so ended up writing it myself. I have it ready now and can do a beta-test. Do you have the CSV data file? If yes, could you e-mail it to me? I will do a test run in my user sandbox. Replaceable fair use Image:16 December poster.jpg[edit]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:16 December poster.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Mspraveen (talk) 19:30, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As a footnote, I wanted to ask you this. Was this image uploaded primarily for Danny Denzongpa's page or was it for the movie 16 December? Clarification will be much appreciated. Cheers! Mspraveen (talk) 19:36, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Indiaportal.jpg listed for deletion[edit]

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:Indiaportal.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Sanjeev Kapoor book.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Sanjeev Kapoor book.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 08:13, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Phases of Venus diagram[edit]

Dear Nichalp

Given your excellent WikiCommons diagram of the phases of Venus [i.e. Phases-of-Venus.svg] as predicted by heliocentric and geoheliocentric astronomy, for pedagogical direct comparison purposes could you possibly also please provide a similar diagram of the Ptolemaic geocentric phases of Venus showing how they are never more than crescent or hemispherical and never gibbous or full ? This could then sit alongside your other diagram in the Galileo article to make the crucial difference between them clear. (But in both cases it would be an improvement if the diagrams showed which way round Venus is orbiting, a point Kuhn gets wrong in his diagram in his 1957 book.)

Rajabai Tower[edit]

Dear Nichalp,

I am working in The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey. In the Science and Society Department, we publish 'Science for Children' popular science magazine for the children whose ages are between 7 and 12 per month. Our science magazine is a non-profit educational magazine. Our magazine's web site is: http://www.biltek.tubitak.gov.tr/cocuk/

In this month issue, towers is one of the topics. While searching in the Internet, I saw your photo: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Rajabai-Tower.jpg

If we use the photo in our magazine, we'll be very glad. When your photo is published in the magazine, we want to send a copy of the magazine to you :)

Thank you very much for your interest. Best wishes from Turkey

Culture section on India article.[edit]

Hi, the culture section is too huge including every possible thing which one might think it to be relating to 'culture'. I think it would be better to have a seperate section abt Film and Music bcoz that itself can speak volumes. Giving info abt different film industries in the country and also which could include famous film stars who have contributed to this field who have made their mark globally. Famous Music directors and their contributions can be added too. Guys you thoughts on this....

Secondly, why dont we have a section on Indian cuisine. This is one of the thoughts that came up on my mind. Since we have varied tastes and cuisines across our country, north is very distinct frm the south, as east is frm the west. Having a Cuisine section may truly spice up the article. What do you think? Guys your thoughts on this too... Im thinking of probably working on these two....

Yeah we could definetely discuss. Let's make the India article much more informative and interesting. Cephas 405 (talk) 18:14, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

INRConvert[edit]

Hi Nichalp – I've added another parameter "nolink", which allows users to decide whether to wiki link currency names (Rupees, Dollars) or not (currency names are wiki linked by default). For this, I had to create a subpage to INRConvert ({{INRConvert/nolinks}}). If you have a second, could you {{sprotect}} the subpage too? Documentation on how to use "nolink" has been updated in the main template. Thanks! AreJay (talk) 22:30, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

INRInflation[edit]

Hi Nichalp, I've created a test template to calculate prices adjusted for inflation, based on our discussion. Some background info is located on WT:IN. There is a test page (with basic documentation on how to use the template) located here. Could you test this template to see if it is working as envisioned? Feedback would be greatly appreciated :) Thanks AreJay (talk) 06:44, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for the feedback. To be honest, I was a little skeptical yesterday of the program logic that I came up with. I have since revisited it, and it seems to now be working as intended. Re: Garybgarman[edit]

Sure. The user recreated personal promotion twice (it can be seen in his deleted contributions). The username change request (only thing he wanted to change was the format of the name, not the actual account purpose, as suggested) reflects the fact that the user was to continue with this. It's not exactly an official DYK requirement, but I feel the article is severely lacking in outside perspective and independent information. Fair use rationale for Image:L&T-logo.svg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:L&T-logo.svg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Rettetast (talk) 18:17, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Coimbatore Amateur Radio Club requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Phlegm Rooster (talk) 05:53, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - I noticed Okie's edit to WP:LA and figure it's because User:Nichalp/sysop says to do this. user:Rick Bot dutifully updates WP:LA once a day and will add the standard WP:LA entry. Unless someone wants to add alternate contact information or former user names or nicks or something, there's really no need for newly promoted admins to add themselves to WP:LA. It certainly doesn't hurt anything, but you might consider rewording this bit in your sysop message. -- Rick Block (talk) 00:05, 27 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
