August 2022[edit]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in Carlo Bonomi, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Throast (talk | contribs) 18:10, 7 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

And a warm welcome to you, Throast! Could you detail exactly why you reverted my edits and could you also refer to the part of the manual of style my edits contravened? Many thanks, Overtone11 (talk) 18:40, 7 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

"In" vs. "As of"[edit]

Hi Overtone11. Be careful with edits like this, where you changed the meaning of the sentence. Before, it said the fishing port was a year-to-year leader (the reference specifically supports this), whereas your change made it say that it led in 2019 only, implying that it did not in other years.

A change like this is probably safer, since it's giving specific counts taken in a certain year (though even writing this, I wanted to say "as of"!). This is definitely fine, since it's pegged to a specific census.

Concise language is good, but make sure you're not inappropriately changing the meaning of an article in pursuing it. --BDD (talk) 14:52, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
