In the Lead, the construction of the first sentence of paragraph two is illogical: The first European settlement by Dutch colonists took place in 1614 at the site of Albany, who formed successful relations with both the Mahican and the Mohawk people, two major Native American nations. So fix it. Yopienso (talk) 21:45, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

"Social competition"

Can you rephrase? It looked sort of odd when I copyedited your addition, can you supply better phrasing?--Wehwalt (talk) 21:02, 23 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi, thanks - could not remember quite how it was phrased. Will try to find it. Basically, people who got out of line, mostly men, were disciplined by lynching - maybe they competed in business, maybe they stood up for themselves. One study in MS found that lynching rates went up at settlement times for sharecroppers. Another economic study found lynching rates related to poor economic indicators - the worse the economy, the higher the number of lynchings.Parkwells (talk) 21:48, 23 January 2015 (UTC)
That would make sense, as Tillman's second term coincided with the Panic of 1893. Not that things were so hot for the farmer any time after the early 1880s.--Wehwalt (talk) 22:41, 23 January 2015 (UTC)
By the way, you're now a rollbacker. Acquaint yourself with it if necessary and if you don't want the user right ask me or any admin to remove it.--Wehwalt (talk) 22:47, 23 January 2015 (UTC)
The high rates of lynching in SC at that time were reflected in other southern states as well; as I recall it was the worst decade.Parkwells (talk) 23:06, 23 January 2015 (UTC)

I was taking a look at this article I wrote and noticed it never got anything other than the automatic assessment generated when I created the talk page. Would you mind maybe taking a look and assessing it? Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 20:32, 24 January 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for cleaning it up and adding details etc. (Yay, it now has a "B"!)
One thing I ran into when I was editing this article was how to render some of the various titles, I went with the Library of Congress info ("The Kentucky encyclopedia" & the highways marker book) or how it was listed within a library ("Our relations: the Dudley-Pratt families") because that seemed authoritative but I am starting to realize that libraries only capitalize the first word in a title... I do try to keep sources' titles exactly as I find them. (Heh, I did go back and check the Dudley-Pratt book and see that on the title page of the original book the title was rendered as "Our Relations: The Dudley Pratt Families"! All this time I thought it was uncapitalized...oh well, thanks for catching my misapprehension.) Shearonink (talk) 07:09, 25 January 2015 (UTC)
Hi, Shearonink - I just figured it was easy to make some small changes; have gotten used to capitalization not being picked up in Google, etc. but they always used to use it. Will anyone know how to capitalize any more? I still want to look at it again, as was interrupted. Have added a couple of cites. Would that be useful to you? Glad it got a "B".Parkwells (talk) 15:29, 25 January 2015 (UTC)
Always good to have some more eyes taking a look, after all it's not one of the high-marquee articles. I am somewhat concerned about the differing numbers of prisoners/dead/casualties asserted in the various sources I have come across - from what I remember they seemed to vary widely depending on British/American and so on. Shearonink (talk) 17:04, 25 January 2015 (UTC)
Yes, I noticed that - and saying that 30 to 100 prisoners were killed is quite a spread, but conditions were chaotic.Parkwells (talk) 22:31, 25 January 2015 (UTC)

CP Rhoads

Thought you might like to know that Cornelius P. Rhoads is now a good article. -Andrevan@ 14:06, 6 March 2015 (UTC)

Saint Lawrence Seaway: Revision history- question

Greetings @Parkwells:, Saw your updates for article Saint Lawrence Seaway. On the Edit summary, wondering what (c/e) means? Being somewhat new to WP-almost 1 year now, I've not seen this c/e before... Regards, JoeHebda (talk) 17:30, 13 March 2015 (UTC)

Hi, sorry for the confusion and thanks for the question. It was something I got used to in the government, meaning just minor copy edit. I should be more careful - just trying to improve some of the language, use active voice in some cases, add wikilinks, etc. Did not make many substantive changes, as I recall, but want to follow up on some items out of curiosity. e.g., If the point of the proposed expansion of the canals is to allow more oceangoing ships, why would there be feeder ships and a container port at Oneonta? I need to read the article cited.Parkwells (talk) 18:23, 13 March 2015 (UTC)

Jefferson again

Major editors at Thomas Jefferson were distracted by a mediation over Ulysses Grant. Then a new editor showed up and made many edits. Also other editors. I found the article in shambles and did some reverting. You may want to look at it. YoPienso (talk) 14:30, 23 September 2015 (UTC)

ucc shooting page

Hello I noticed you edited the UCC shooting page. I want to make a correction. Under the guns used, it says ar-15 rifle. That is untrue and the source used to site that bit of information has no mention of that fact. I would edit it but the page is protected. thank you Foxide (talk) 16:17, 8 October 2015 (UTC)

Hi, thanks. Yes, the article said it was a long rifle. His mother had the AR at home.Parkwells (talk) 19:57, 8 October 2015 (UTC)

Some stroopwafels for you!

Thanks for the edits to Utica, New York. Put these stroopwafels over coffee and let them melt in your mouth. Buffaboy talk 03:38, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
Thanks! I want one now! Parkwells (talk) 03:41, 17 November 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for your additions to the article. I noticed instances in which you have added material that I couldn't find in the sources already cited. For example, in the first paragraph of the article, you added "sometimes sending priests to treatment centers", which I could not find in the sources. One source mentions that one priest did not comply with a treatment program, which is not exactly the same as "sending priests to treatment centers.". Did you check the sources there and elsewhere to be sure your edits conformed to the sources? I'm not saying that you added incorrect information, just information I could not find in the sources. Thanks. Sundayclose (talk) 17:10, 28 November 2015 (UTC)

Thanks, must have been too hasty. I knew that the treatment centers were part of the US story and thought it was thoroughly covered by the Globe. Will check again.Parkwells (talk) 17:14, 28 November 2015 (UTC)
Could you please check all the additions you made for sourcing? Thanks. Sundayclose (talk) 17:15, 28 November 2015 (UTC
Most of my changes are for paraphrasing for clarity and style (use of active voice), filling out urls, and other minor changes. Have corrected some items based on another review of cites.Parkwells (talk) 04:19, 29 November 2015 (UTC)
