Hi! Further to what I said on Talk:Luke Hartsuyker, I really do want to take a moment to welcome you properly to the project. Goodness knows we need more active editors at WP:AUSPOL, and I hope you stick around. I also want to commend you for engaging with the talk pages; many new editors take a while to grasp the collaborative, consensus-based approach we have here and you seem to have picked up on that right from the get-go, so nice work! Sorry to see you've had some lack of responses, but as you may have noticed we're a bit under-resourced at the moment, and it's great you haven't taken that as a cue to stop engaging.

You might notice I've made some changes to Ann Sudmalis following your recent reworking. The goal here was good, but you need to be really careful about POV, especially in biographies of living people. Pretty much everything you added to Sudmalis's page ended up with a negative slant, which we need to watch. I also removed a couple of sentences that I don't think warranted inclusion as trivialities, although feel free to discuss these on the talk page if you disagree. Just remember that we need to have a neutral point of view and encyclopedic tone throughout, and we mustn't let our personal political leanings interfere with editing. From the Sudmalis article, for example, I could tell pretty clearly what your opinion of her was. Ideally, one's edits should betray no clue about one's political leanings (although you are of course free to express those on talk pages or on your userpage).

@Frickeg: Thank you for your message and fixing up the page. Please note I only contributed a small amount to the page and some of your changes were to material that pre-dated me. I do question some of your changes, as - if mine were biased one way, I feel yours are biased the other way.
  1. I believe (as whoever wrote it did) that it is valid to include that she believed that she won some of the polling booths because of interference by a supporter removing the competitor's material. Sudmalis volunteered this information and it was reported publicly. If it is "negative" it is because someone did the wrong thing (don't shoot the messenger).
  2. The rewriting of what happened regarding council amalgamations doesn't really explain it, and could give people the wrong impression - and admittedly it wasn't written very well by whoever originally contributed it. From what I understand: Sudmalis was publicly critical against the Baird Liberal state government's forced council amalgamations. She signed a petition but didn't read what it said properly. The petition she signed stated an “intention to vote against the honourable Shelley Hancock MP & Gareth Ward MP, as well as the government in the upper house at the next state election” (voting against her own Liberal party in future elections). That didn't go down well. She then sought to have her signature removed from the petition due to the mistake.[1]. However her continued stance was/is against the amalgamations. I don't have a particular perspective on this issue, but believe it should be clear what actually happened and what her stance is.
  3. Re same-sex marriage, yeah I have a position which is that there is an abundance of evidence that the majority of her electorate does support same-sex marriage, yet she is claiming that she is only against same-sex marriage because of her "conservative" constituency.
If I went overkill with evidence, it is because on Peter Dutton's post an editor had objected to someone (not me) saying that Dutton opposed same sex marriage (editor then was selectively quoting one citation that made it more ambiguous) so after a lengthy discussion on the talk page which required me providing overkill of evidence regarding Dutton's stance he conceded to a new wording... which included the overkill of evidence.
If you prefer a shorter simpler writing of Sudmalis's stance, fine, but the current rewrite is not neutral. Sudmalis infers that she needn't listen to her own survey results (which I guess she didn't like the outcome of) because of a "low" participation rate - but scientific practice requires at least 100 respondents to be statistically reliable, and she had 2510 respondents. i.e. plenty. She also suggested that there wasn't that much difference between those who were for or against, when 1552 versus 893 means almost twice as many were for same-sex marriage than against. Quoting her as if it were fact as she misrepresents the evidence is not neutral. And this: "made clear her support for a national plebiscite to decide the issue" is not true. She supports a plebiscite but does not anywhere say that she will vote based on the plebiscite outcome. If she is opposed to same sex marriage, and is currently ignoring all the evidence that her community are mostly for same sex marriage, then there is no evidence to suggest she would vote for same sex marriage even if the Australian public voted for it in a plebescite. As such, the plebescite will not decide the issue (and she doesn't say it will either).
I don't mind how you write it, but it is important to communicate accurately on her page that her community has shown their support for same sex marriage (I provided an abundance of evidence and citations for this), yet she opposes same sex marriage and claims it is due to her constituency. Those are the facts. Some people will think positively of her for opposing same sex marriage, and other's negatively, so who's to say whether this is negative or positive?
4. I don't care one way or another (not my contribution to this page) but am interested to know what prompted the change in information about 2016 election results. I have wondered if there is a suggestion somewhere about how election results should be communicated (wording, which statistics used, etc), which would make things clearer, apples to apples, more neutral, but it seems to vary from page to page as far as I can tell.

Sorry about misattributing all those edits to you - I've had a look and you're absolutely right, my bad. Looking more closely at the edits that are actually yours, they are generally much better than those that preceded them! I'll do my best to answer these questions:
  1. The polling booth sign thing seems like a non-story to me. Firstly, she said she had been told that the materials had been taken down, and then she was making an inference that that was why she won an individual booth (not multiple booths). She was reporting an anecdote, this was then referred to police and appears to have gone no further. This kind of thing is not at all uncommon at election time; in fact I doubt very much there has been any election without at least five or so stories like this. If it turned into an actual thing (like the Cameron Murphy/East Hills mess at the state election), then it would be different.
  2. You're right that the amalgamations bit was poorly written, which was why I trimmed it down. I agree what is there now could be expanded further, although I don't believe it is inaccurate. The problem is that the whole thing is kind of a mess, and it's hard to accurately depict the whole, rather minor incident without running afoul of undue weight. Would not be opposed to clarification regarding her opposition to amalgamation, but I feel that to go into the petition itself in too much detail is unnecessary.
  3. My personal position is the same as yours on same-sex marriage, but I do not believe we need to go into all that much detail about it. Of the evidence you provided, the council votes do not say anything conclusive about community support, online petitions and online polls are not evidence of anything, and the Wollongong Young Liberal club is in a separate (and very left-leaning) electorate. Even the mailing list is crappy evidence, because it was not conducted using proper survey methods (it used her mailing list, which is hardly a representative sample). The only way we could definitively say that her community supports SSM is if a reputable polling company surveyed the electorate. I take your point about the low response rate, but struggled to find another way to concisely sum up her response; I personally agree that her position here is pretty weak, but the article cannot agree with that, it just has to present her response neutrally. You have assembled evidence and are presenting a case that Sudmalis is wrong; I think you have a strong argument there, but Wikipedia is not the place for making arguments. Regarding the plebiscite, I think it is clear from the news article that she supports a plebiscite in a proper sense (not in an Abetz-sense), but would not necessarily be opposed to rephrasing if you'd prefer.
  4. There isn't any standard regarding reporting of election results, outside of complying with the manual of style. I felt the way it was written was unnecessarily wordy, and I don't think anything was really left out in my truncating it. Generally it isn't necessary to mention the opponent by name unless they win or are notable in some particular way (and not just a standard party candidate, which the vast majority are, even in marginal seats). I don't love talking about majorities in numbers rather than percentages, because of how quickly these things can change and how frequently we redistribute boundaries, but there's no ban on them.

One small thing though... stub categories should [ https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Alice_Easton_Law&diff=prev&oldid=800884030never be directly added] - they should be added by templates (e.g., {{NewZealand-bio-stub}}. Adding them directly to categories makes any further sorting a much harder task and also makes assessment of what further stub categories might be needed far more difficult. Hello! Voting in the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 on Monday, 2 December 2019. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
