Image permissions[edit]

When requesting permission to use an image on Wikipedia, you may find this page helpful: Wikipedia:Example requests for permission

I know the legalese can seem unduly complicated. Using a pre-formatted letter increases the chances that all the legal basis will be covered.

You are correct, many people see it this way, and working to obtain images for Wikipedia can be onerous. However, the author retains the right of attribution, and gains the exposure of their work to the large audience that reads Wikipedia. There are many people who find such terms worthwhile.
