Thank you for your participation in the March 2011 GAN backlog elimination drive

On behalf of User:Wizardman and myself, we would like to take the time and thank you for your contributions made as part of the March 2011 Good articles backlog elimination drive. Awards and barnstars will go out shortly for those who have reviewed a certain number of articles.

During the backlog drive, in the month of March 2011,

  • 522 GA nominations were undertaken.
  • 423 GA nominations passed.
  • 72 GA nominations failed.
  • 27 GA nominations were on hold.

We started the GA backlog elimination drive with 378 GA nominations remaining, with 291 that were not reviewed at all. By 2:00, April 1, 2011, the backlog was at 171 GA nominations, with 100 that were left unreviewed.

At the start of the drive, the oldest unreviewed GA nomination was 101 days (Andrei Kirilenko (politician), at 20 November 2010, reviewed and passed 1 March 2011); at the end of the drive the oldest unreviewed GA nomination was 39 days (Gery Chico, at 24 February 2011, still yet to be reviewed as of this posting).

While we did not achieve the objective of getting the backlog of outstanding GA nominations down to below 50, we reduced the GA backlog by over half. The GA reviews also seemed to be of a higher quality and have consistently led, to say the least, to marginal improvements to those articles (although there were significant improvements to many, even on the some of the nominations that were failed).

If you would like to comment on the drive itself and maybe even make suggestions on how to improve the next one, please make a comment at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Good articles/GAN backlog elimination drives/March 2011#Feedback. Another GA backlog elimination drive is being planned for later this year, tentatively for September or October 2011. Also, if you have any comments or remarks on how to improve the Good article process in general, Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles can always use some feedback at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Good articles.

Again, on behalf of User:Wizardman and myself, thank you for making the March 2011 GA backlog elimination drive a success.

Somerset (again)

Thanks for all your help with Somerset Levels which got its little star last night. The next target is a list. It's not quite ready for FLC nomination but if you had the time/inclination to turn your eagle eyes to the prose on List of hill forts and ancient settlements in Somerset that would be great.— Rod talk 08:33, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

Congratulations on the FA. It will probably nearer next weekend before I start, but I will have a look at it. Pyrotec (talk) 15:22, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
I'm starting now, one week late, but its a weekend. Pyrotec (talk) 20:11, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi Pyrotec, excuse me for nutting in, but this review seems to have died and the nominator hasn't edited since February. Jezhotwells (talk) 20:44, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

Well yes, The nominator has not edited since February and Talk:Ecology/GA2 seems to have died, so this was not top of my review list, particularly with the GA backlog running. Still I've got my Bristol ticket and I'm coming to find out from you all about GA reviewing. Pyrotec (talk) 16:50, 13 April 2011 (UTC)
Hah! Shall I expect some hard questions! Jezhotwells (talk) 23:45, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

March 2010 GAN backlog elimination drive award

The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
For reviewing 10 or more Good article nominations during this past March 2011 GA backlog elimination drive, I hereby award you The Tireless Contributor Barnstar. Nice work! –MuZemike 17:31, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi there! You were the GA reviewer for the article and mentioned it was far from FAC at the moment. it is currently going through another peer review (which is rather weak), and please, if you can find anything, please write on PR page or, if it ends before you start, on talk page. I hope you can help me even through you're more addicted to GANs than FACs. Thanks!--R8R Gtrs (talk) 09:30, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

Sorry if I hurt you, I don't always find the right words to describe what I want to say in words... So, I'm waiting for it!--R8R Gtrs (talk) 12:26, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for reviewing and promoting this article to WP:GA. It has been 'my baby' for about a year now (when I started it was a one line stub) and I'm very pleased and grateful for your contributions and comments. Meetthefeebles (talk) 20:47, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

Northern Isles review

Many thanks for this review - it was a bit of a rushed job but is much improved thanks to your input. Not that it is either all that interesting or relevant but if you want to know why just follow the little green audit trail at right. Ben MacDui 15:33, 19 June 2011 (UTC) PS Let me know if I can return the favour any time.

Getty Villa comment

Before I say anything let it be known that this is not an attempt to infuence the review. As a disclaimer it should also be known that no sanctions or administrative actions have been taken against this editor in regards to this situation and it's nominator in any way and have nothing to do with the nominator's current situation.

I was also not notified of review GA3. I followed instructions precisely for GA2 and nothing the nominator has stated in his comments in GA5 appear to be true in regards to me except my not notifying the two of them. I'll leave that to you to decide if that failed bright line rules or the spirit of Wikipedia as, just because the two themselves did not notify me, does not mean I have to take the same course. It did seem the right choice to me then, and now. The review did not breakdown. The nominator simply refused to comply to MOS in regards to images and I stopped the review and failed it due to non compliance to MOS and other criteria. I did not "Take offense" and the nominator is simply making assumptions. I believe it is the general consensus that my doing an individual reassessment rather than a community reassessment was not the right course to take. Whether it is against bright line rules remains to be seen but I admit it went against the spirit of Wikipedia...although it was transposed to the talk page correctly and open to all to see and was not hidden. Nor did I simply make a "judgement" call that I feel was the essence of GA3 with a single note to the nominator. I have removed myself from project GA and the task force as I simply did not feel welcome for various reasons. I may review articles in the future on my own as participation in the project is not required. I am also finishing up one other outstanding review.

I will not comment further however, as the nominator is unable to respond in kind (although I really don't wish a back and forth with the member) I am sure it is possible mistakes were made on many levels by many people here, including myself.

The subject is a great interest to me as a history buff and someone who also loves museums and I would like to eventually contribute to this and other articles on Getty and other museums as I have in the past such as M. H. de Young Memorial Museum where I contributed a tiny amount and the main info box image.--Amadscientist (talk) 23:00, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for your detailed notes above. My review at /GA5 will simply be to determine whether the article is compliant with WP:WIAGA and if not to list what needs to be done to bring it up to standard and/or to fail it. I've obviously seen the earlier reviews (since they are visible on the article's talkpage, or are accessible), but I've no really no interest in listing/finding faults (if any) in the earlier reviews. That's no effective use of WP:GAN. Pyrotec (talk) 17:25, 20 June 2011 (UTC)
Hello, just to let you know in case you have missed it- Racepacket has been banned from Wikipedia for a year. I am not sure how this will effect the nomination. J Milburn (talk) 00:23, 20 June 2011 (UTC)
I've started a discussion about the issue here. J Milburn (talk) 00:27, 20 June 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for notifying me. I was not aware, but I am now. I've commented on that page: I'm happy to review another two of that (former) editor's nominations. Pyrotec (talk) 17:28, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for your help with Composite bow

This was my first attempt at getting an article to GA status and I'm very grateful to you for your help in doing this. Your comments were not only relevant, but actively helpful, and of course you also made further appropriate edits. Quite apart from improving the article I've learned from the experience. Feel free to call on me if I can be of any help to you in future. Richard Keatinge (talk) 10:50, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
