Canvassing/harassment warning[edit]

Your contributions history shows that you have been aggressively cross-posting. Although the Arbitration Committee has ruled that "The occasional light use of cross-posting to talk pages is part of Wikipedia's common practice."1, such cross-posting should adhere to specific guidelines. In the past, aggressively worded cross-posting has contributed towards an Arbitration Committee ruling of disruptive behavior that has resulted in blocks being issued. Additionally, canvassing in an attempt to draw condemnation of a particular editor from people with a known membership or affiliation is a breach of WP:HARASS, and editors have been blocked for this behaviour in the past. Please do not engage in it in future. Orderinchaos 17:30, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cross-posting broadly speaking translates to "spamming of multiple user talk pages". Some is acceptable - for instance, newsletters people have subscribed to, notice that a dispute resolution process is occurring or whatever. However others are not - such as trying to get people into a debate who will vote a certain way, or this kind of thing we've seen today. In my view, it's pretty obvious what you were trying to achieve with it, and not much point in attempting to deny it. Bullying, or trying to encourage bullying, of an editor who is attempting to hold you to account is completely unacceptable, and is completely contrary to the purpose of building the sort of editing environment Wikipedia wishes to encourage - i.e. a collaborative work space with a spirit of academic inquiry. I would suggest an apology to Twenty Years is in order. Orderinchaos 18:38, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
He has a point in one respect - until the project starts focusing on building articles, and while it keeps coming to people's attention in somewhat less positive ways, it is not going to be taken seriously by the wider community. Twenty Years is very much a part of that community—he's a respected reviewer on two major WikiProjects and founder of a smaller one which once appeared in Signpost and is quite visible on the Australian scene in fixing articles in dire peril of deletion and in "filtering" new articles in the area it covers. Personally speaking, I've started two smaller ones and assist in about nine others, have secured the removal or merging of three others, and have provided "start-up" advice to founders of other projects. There's long been a belief in the community that while WikiProjects as a concept by promoting the meeting of minds on common interests and encouraging development are a positive thing, that some WikiProjects are a distraction to the cause of building an encyclopaedia. Occasionally groups within the community get interested in Wikiproject reform, and proposals and proposed standards are put forward with minimum criteria and the like, which at present HSCH would clearly fail by a wide margin. Since starting, the main tasks of the project appear to have been somewhat internal in nature—attempting to decommission a perceived rival project, holding elections for internal "posts", repeated canvassing violations of differing kinds and tagging articles clearly not within the project's scope. If one was to actually see progress on homeschooling articles as a result of the project's activities, there'd be a much tougher argument against the questions Twenty Years has raised. I hope you take my comments in the spirit of advice rather than criticism—I would be genuinely happy to see your project succeed, as it covers an area that rarely gets attention by itself from other editors. Orderinchaos 19:06, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I find it hard to believe the project needs building - it's been a proposition since October and is already over a month old in WP space. Most of the projects I work in have less than one-quarter HSCH's membership, have never gotten higher, and yet are blindingly productive. My advice would be to prepare collectively a list of topics which - firstly are important to the project's scope and coverage, secondly are poorly or not covered at the present, and thirdly within your group at least one person has the expertise to research or write and a second to check it. For those who aren't so confident in writing, pair them up with someone who may be less familiar with the topic but can draw on that person's knowledge. Make WP:WIAGA the barometer, on each ground, of performance on the article. Perhaps even have someone either inside or outside who is a good article reviewer and happy to review any work you do. (Speaking personally I'm happy to review spelling, grammar and policies - I was an editor at a TV station for three years and almost nothing escapes my attention :)) If you were to do that for 30 days you'd probably have 10 B-class articles half of which would go to GA within a further 2 weeks. I think the internal focus is actually consuming the available time of the members. Everyone's there because they believe homeschooling could be covered better on Wikipedia, and that they believe they can contribute to improving it. It's just a matter of harnessing that enthusiasm. Almightily etc[edit]

Can we stop the "bullshit", and get on with writing articles for the homeschooling project. Im willing to put all the stuff between you, me and OIC behind us and move on. Ill avoid the last edit you made to my talk page as an error of judgement. So lets move on. Thanks. Twenty Years 03:20, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, but...[edit]

Why would you or I get blocked? We did absolutely nothing wrong, and frankly, I'm slightly pissed that anyone that calls themself an admin would blatanly delete content off of another user's talk page (repeatedly) without even a warning. I'm not quite sure I understand why we would get blocked. elisatalk. 14:55, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

K, I'll miss you. How long will you be gone? elisatalk. 15:11, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
(Sorry to butt-in here), but you seem to be concerned about getting blocked from the cross-posting incident, you will not be blocked, unless you do it again, youve made a mistake and learned from it, which is good. Elisa, on the other hand could be in trouble if she keeps making accusations against OIC, and doesnt assume good faith and tone down the nature of her comments. Hope this helps. Twenty Years 15:33, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I will reply here for convenience. I did not make a mistake in posting those comments, as I felt that my fellow members had a right (which they do) to know what people think about us within our own project. Also, Elisa is just standing up for me while I am on a wikibreak, and she cannot be blamed for that, for we all know that if one of our friends was in trouble we would stand up for them. And if we didn't then we really couldn't expect to be called a friend now could we? Also, you are not assuming good faith for assuming that I made a "mistake in judgement" Thank you. If you wish to continue this conversation please e-mail me; as I am on a wikibreak. Kimu 17:54, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'll note here entirely for the record (although I don't see it necessary to do so) that I considered after my chat with Kimu 2 or 3 days ago that the matter was resolved. I had satisfied myself that Kimu was a good faith user who was not going to engage in the behaviour I had warned him about again, and also that there was a reasonable prospect of us working together towards his aim of getting the Homeschooling wikiproject on its feet. As such, blocks weren't even considered - note that I never threatened to block Kimu (incidentally, WP:BLOCK would have prevented me from doing so, and I do take policy seriously). My actions were taken only after consulting with other admins to ensure that my proposition was reasonable. I think a few temperatures have got a bit excited over matters to do with this WikiProject and it's probably best for all concerned that that energy be channelled into building the project. Orderinchaos 19:27, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Will all do respect, the matter was not resolved completely. Also, I would like to note that I never said that he threatened to block me, only that if Elisa got blocked that she should e-mail me. BTW, I would be very interested to know what admin you consulted that justified your actions. I am sorry that my actions were misunderstood. Kimu 19:41, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The issue is resolved, and I have emailed you in regards to this all. Thanks. Twenty Years 04:24, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The issue is not resolved. Kimu 15:34, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
(reduce indent) what is not resolved. Twenty Years 15:51, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That was as much an implication that I would block Elisa, which I also never intended to do - that is a massive assumption of bad faith on your part towards me. I am well known for my cautious use of blocking, and on AN/I I have challenged (often successfully) what I see as rash or unjustifiable blocks by other admins, and sometimes even taken it into my hands controversially to unblock them, even when I believe the user is not a saint and could do things better, but has not yet reached the "blockable" level. You can look in my previous month's talk page archive to see just how controversial one of them got. I am certainly strict when it comes to policy, but I believe blocking is a last-resort measure that effectively acknowledges the failure of discussion. As my occasional tendency to verbosity probably indicates, I am a big fan of discussion.
In the way that I became convinced you were not likely to repeat the earlier behaviour, it was resolved. To the extent that we had gone from a situation where I'd had to warn you, to a situation where we were peaceably discussing a way forward for your WikiProject, it was resolved - indeed, I respected your ability to cool down and deal with the matter at hand.
I raised the situation with a couple of other admins who I regularly deal with, who agreed that the reversion of the action and the warning were the way to go with this one. Had they been reinstated en masse, the next step would have been AN/I, but it didn't get to that. I'm not sure that they would agree to be named, as I consulted them privately in the course of a conversation I was already in with them - had it been on here I would have pointed you to diffs or a talk page where it occurred. Orderinchaos 20:23, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Time out! Everybody chill! I am not, nor have I ever been, concerned about getting blocked. However, I was concerned with Elisa getting blocked, as WP is the only way we communicate. So I told her to e-mail me if she got blocked so we could continue talking. Now, I have no idea how this whole conversation blew up in my face, but I am going to stay out of it from now on. You can continue this conversation here if you want. Kimu 21:14, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You said on Elisa's page, "I just thought that if we get blocked, we could still talk." That wasn't "you". Anyway, it seems we have resolved that you understand that I'm not running around threatening to block people or whatever it is you think I am doing, so this matter appears over from my point of view. Orderinchaos 15:12, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK, so that still doesn't mean that I'm afraid of getting blocked; which is what started the whole thing. Kimu 16:21, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback[edit]

Yes Twinkle has Rollback and if you were savvy enough any user could write a javascript. My concerns are about the way Rollback has been implemented. Flagged revisions where reader and editor and administrators decide on the content on the page totally destroys the whole wiki. Pages will be tiered in a way that a casual reader can't alter what he sees to be false. Rollback grants are the first stage of making editors drones without them being part of the community. Rollback is a way of sifting the good from the bad in my opinion. BpEps - t@lk 01:59, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The discussion has closed now, but note that the offer I made in the final contribution I made to the thread still stands. Note that it has to be a stub (a very short Start article or a non-existent article is fine), it can be on any topic at all, and the target is GA or FA - and the offer applies to any one or combination of the 11 users associated with the former cabals. Also if you need specialist help with inline citations or MOS stuff, feel free to ask. Like I said, I'm more than happy to be proven wrong in a way which benefits the encyclopaedia. Nah, that wouldn't hurt, you're just trying to improve Wikipedia. As a small sidenote, my advice would be to put worrying about when you'll be an admin behind what's happening in the now; then, after all this is over you won't be stressed. :) I've got to go, seeing a movie with some people. Sorry I meant to tell you this earlier, but I figured it would be a good place to house them all. Sorry if it's confusing with all the redirects.

The Chiefs didn't sign Lin Elliot. I'm not sure if that's an April Fool's Joke on your part, but I had heard it last year and it's a common APD joke here in Kansas City. He's definitely not the kicker that KC fans would like to see back in our city. He missed 3 FGs in a playoff game against the Colts. He's pretty much our Scott Norwood with "Wide Right". It was a joke right? Heh, if you want, you can revert that edit. I don't want to have any fans that get our newsletter really believe it because that would be chaos. conman33 (. . .talk) 23:33, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
lol, no this is fake. I'm sure the Raiders scout site is having a whole lot of fun with it. It's nowhere to be found on the official Chiefs website ([3]) and also there was this story ([4]) about how the Arrowhead naming rights were sold to John Elway which of course would never happen. But hey, it's cool, man. I totally got jipped into thinking that Hillary Clinton dropped out of the Presidential election yesterday, but sadly I was told it was wrong. No worries. Iron Man[edit]

Hey, how are you today? I appreciate your contribution to Iron Man (film) regarding the film rating. However, the general consensus is that film ratings do not contribute much to the encyclopedic nature of Wikipedia's film articles. Unless there is coverage from third-party, published sources about a film's rating, the rating would be better off being found at the official website or at MPAA's website. Like Alientraveller indicated, it is not neutral to add details of American ratings to film articles when this is the English Wikipedia, not the American Wikipedia. In addition, even a full list of ratings for one film would not provide any historical insight. There are exceptions, of course -- some films are noted because of their ratings, such as Midnight Cowboy being the first X-rated film to win Best Picture, or Live Free or Die Hard being PG-13 after its predecessors were R-rated. In the case of Iron Man, unless there is uniqueness established in the film having its current rating, there is not much else that can be said in an encyclopedic context. Let me know if you have any questions! —Erik (talkcontrib) - 17:23, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It has less to do with keeping it out and more to do with having a basis for including it. There are a few general consensuses that the style guidelines don't cover, so I've actually been thinking about proposing an addition to address that more clearly. :) —Erik (talkcontrib) - 19:02, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption[edit]

Hi, RC (can I call you that? Or should I use RC-0722? Or something else.) I think I need to be adopted. Other than using Wikipedia as a first source of quick (wiki-wiki is Hawaiian for quick) first line information about obscure and often arcane information, this part of it looks like a blog site. I'm pretty naive about terminology, so correct me as I go, please. I would like you to adopt me. I have read a lot of the entries about you, but am still vague about who, in the abstract sense, you are. Out of context, I mean. And context = this site. So, in a sense, I know something about you. What do you want to know about me? (Is this the way it goes, or am I way off base?)--BudgieBirdChan0211 (talk) 03:39, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption[edit]

That was fast! Yes, I accept. Thank you. --BudgieBirdChan0211 (talk) 03:50, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What I would like to know.[edit]

Thanks for the invitation to inquire. Please ignore anything you do not wish to answer here.

Yes, the hour is late, and I apologize for keeping you up thus far. Get to bed and read this in the AM. I am in the Midwest so am one hour behind your CT time. I don't have a user page developed yet, but will do so, as time allows. I gather that all the information about you on your user page is correct and true. It's impressive. You are a Sophomore. Non-traditional student? If you have declared one yet, what is your major? It's now my bedtime, too. Mucho gusto de conocerle as Usted. Hasta manana. --BudgieBirdChan0211 (talk) 04:11, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How I got into this[edit]

Background info: While researching the topic CVT, Continuously Variable Transmission, in Wikipedia, I read a translation, either autmoated or otherwise, of a language cited in editing marks (which I didn't recognize). I tried to find the article, which is probably in Japanese, but couldn't. The article as written is understandable, but rather in Japlish. I thought I could help make the article read better by revising the text into American English, but would like to see the original Japanese. Hence, I filled out the requisite information and here I am. Still haven't found the article, but have been getting my bearings around Wikiworld. And that's helpful.

My native language is American English. As a child, I heard and could speak some Swedish (my mother was third, in order, of her sibship, and first to be born in the USA, after her parents and two older brothers immigrated, in the early 1900's). Spanish is my second language, and Japanese is my third. Every once in a while here in the Midwest, I hear smatterings of Swedish from passersby, or from old folks in communities that boast the title of "Swedish Capitol". They think I can't understand them!

My profession, i.e., day job: physician, pediatrics and urgent care. My night job, artist. I paint and sculpt. I have a studio in downtown Omaha and a website, if you are interested.

The reason I want to know more about you than is on your user talk page is that it would help me to know your level of education--knowledge and experience. Some of that is obvious from the way you write. And anyone who can craft Star Wars costumes can't be all bad! So, in addition to what you write, I know that you have considerable artistic talent and are pretty street-wise. Most traditional College Sophomores do not possess that level of savvy.

Gotta go now. Hope this hasn't creeped you out.--BudgieBirdChan0211 (talk) 12:56, 7 April 2008 (UTC) PS: sorry about the spelling error in last post. I wastired and missed it.--BudgieBirdChan0211 (talk) 12:56, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

User Page[edit]

Just added: attempt at a User Page. Dull, I'm fraid.--BudgieBirdChan0211 (talk) 13:45, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Sophomore Problem[edit]

Thanks for your reply. It's now almost 3PM in Omaha. It was a pleasure learning that you meant Sophomore in HS, not college! I feel real good about that. I hope it's OK with you, too, to adopt me, knowing that I'm not in high school. I have a few things to do this afternoon, but will be back later. Looking forward to this. --BudgieBirdChan0211 (talk) 20:04, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Savvy[edit]

Education and experience: pretty much how you apply knowledge. In ans to your Q, I meant elsewhere. It's obvious you know your way around Wikiworld, but I meant the non-virtual reality kind of savvy. (I had a few minutes before leaving.) Laters,--BudgieBirdChan0211 (talk) 20:22, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not much of a scholar[edit]

Not sure what you mean by that, the scholar thing, but maybe you can help me figure out where the original article is for that section of CVT that describes the CONE CVT. I was able to pull up the EDIT BOX but unable to locate the Japanese for it. As I re-consider, perhaps it's German--both languages end the sentence with the verb. So y' have to wait until the speaker is finished to know the punch line. Can't tell without looking at the original article. This project is not a major gotta do for me, and I don't intend to occupy lots of your time with it. If you could describe the SEARCH PROCESS, i.e, how do I find the original language, it'd help.

On a personal note, I have been to Bridgeport and Rowayton. It's cold here, too!--BudgieBirdChan0211 (talk) 23:54, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Thanks for catching that blank on my userspace. I appreciate it :). FusionMix 01:12, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I quite agree :). The only thing close to amusing vandalism on my page was this edit, which still wasn't very interesting at all. I enjoyed the five days of semi-protect peace... FusionMix 01:16, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Scholar vs Writer[edit]

OK. That makes sense. You do sound like a scholar! I will worry about the original Japanese later; I went ahead and edited the article anyway--got rid of the Japlish. Let's see what happens. No doubt you have many contacts in Wikiworld. Thanks for taking the time with me.--BudgieBirdChan0211 (talk) 02:38, 8 April 2008 (UTC) PS: Budgie was the name of our parakeets. Plural, parakeetS five of them, one after the other. Rather than having to learn a new name, we just re-used the old one. The parakeets didn't seem to mind. The second Budgie, known officially as B-2, had the talking gene. He'd pick up a phrase or word after hearing it only a couple of times. Truly amazing. Chan is the Japanese familiar diminutive for the suffix -san, honorable person. We didn't use the word Bird, but in order to get a user name and log on to Wikipedia, I had to adjust the user name multiple times in order NOT to duplicate what someone else was using. Imagine that!--BudgieBirdChan0211 (talk) 02:38, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

User Page[edit]

I keep coming back to your User Page and re-reading, checking the layout. And wonder: How do you get such a cool User Page? Like, you have small red print, columns of colored boxes with outrageous (some) statements, and neat stuff packed away. Are the instructions to such a canvas intuitive, or did you just mix and match? I have no such pedigree, regrettably. However, my wife is Japanese, also MD, Ped Anesthesiologist, retired shortly after we married. Now works for Miki International. a language services company in Tokyo. They send the Japanese, she returns it in English. Mostly medical, research, technical papers, occasional bilingual conferences. My job: honorable editor-in-chief of American English Language. Knowing some Japanese helps, since there is much that does not translate, but must be made up to convey the meaning of the message . . . this situation occurs both ways, fr Eng to Jap and Jap to Eng. We lived in HI for 18 years and she participates in a language school site, nacosnagaya.org, which is interesting if you know Jap Lang or are bilingual. FAC Reviewing[edit]

Hi, I'm so glad you are interested in FAC reviewing!! The Dispatch article that I linked on the WP CF page has the basic instructions on reviewing. The list of articles to be reviewed is at WP:FAC. There aren't any college football articles nominated at the moment, but for a new reviewer I'd recommend that you just pick an article that sounds interesting, read it, and take a stab at reviewing (again, see the instructions). If you practice reviewing now, by the time a CF article is nominated again, you'll be pretty good at it and ready to support or oppose ;) If you have any questions, ask me or leave a message at the FAC talk page. No Problem[edit]

OK about answer time. Sometimes what I write doesn't need answering. Just figuring out my way around here. It's not intuitive. Seem to be lots of non-sequitors. Like, the issue of scolding for editing something, accusing one of malicious intent and saboage. The recent CNN article about abuse attests to what I mean.

As I peruse the various User Pages which I see regularly, it appears that the most active are young men. Like yourself. One wonders about education level and authority, knowledge, documentation, responsibility and so on. The oldest I've seen so far is 41. If your family were prolific, I could be your great-grandfather, age-wise! Initially, remember, you said you hoped that your bgeing a sophomore in high school would not be a problem. I hope that being four times older than you won't be, either!

As for educational opportunities, and advantage re access to knowledge, the Wikipedia concept can give one a tremendous advantage--so much information (must be authenticated and documented!) is available at such a rapid speed, that your generation has a distinct advantage. My geneartion worried about premature sophisticaion. Your generation lives it! Please understand that I am an advocate of this entire concept. And I support wholeheartedly the ventures that you are doing. I endorse is en toto, even with the usual caveats. You know, cum granis salis and stuff like that.

What seems to be beyond that (what I've already mentioned) is the multiple listing of traits attributable to each user on his page. That rather surprises me. Guess it's the "reality TV influence." Does this make any sense?--BudgieBirdChan0211 (talk) 00:20, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Two things[edit]

  1. I really have no idea. I have never heard of a policy relating to it. You probably can; I can't think of any obvious rules against it.
  2. Yes, it is looking better. I would add some refs to the Plot section and try to add a ref in place of the "citation needed" tag, if possible.   jj137 (talk) 17:06, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, this is the fourth, which is why I created that link for you. All you have to do is find the news, and write it down. Also, after "Written by:" sign 3 tildes. Basketball110Talk 19:05, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes... what you should've done is used a template for the users talk pages, because you forgot to change the date and add after "Written by:". I fixed them on that page, but since you didn't use templates, it doesn't get changed on the users' talk pages. Basketball110Talk 22:39, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It was lovely to see a 'hello' and cookies. I wondered if there was some sort of community out there noticing the odd noodlings of newbies.

While I've got you, I'd like to ask, am I adding external links correctly? I added an external link to this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_K._Van_Riper#Views_on_the_Iraq_War and I got a very nice superscript 1 and an icon and a working link. But nothing got added to the list of "external links" at the bottom of the page. Sherrold (talk) 04:26, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

---G.T.N. (talk) 00:17, 2 May 2008 (UTC)== Philosophy ==[reply]

I've decided to stop talking with Filll, as it is just provoking him and won't do any good. But if you feel you must, I'm not gonna let you get the worst of this debate. Here's a few points: 1. Don't let him get on this whole preacher-told-you thing, I'm thinking you're not so stupid that all you know about philosophy/Christianity/creationism is what your preacher told you. 2. We disagree with the dating methods darwinists use in the first place, so ask him for non-c14-dating evidence (such as historical sequence-of events) if he wants to prove Hammurabi was older. 3. We don't have a problem with other similiar moralities, we see that as proof that there is one ultimate morality, something he has denied by saying that morality changes, but then he said how a lot of them are so similiar. 4. We think ours is oldest (although not in its fully revealed form), so other similiar religions ultimately have the same origin. 5. We disagree with his evolutionist ideas on a scientific basis, so don't let him try and say "science says this" unless he gives you scientific data that can lead to no other conclusion. 6. If we're all just products of evolution, how can we rely on our "rational" minds? 7. How is evolution not random? There is nothing behind to order it? 8. The human mind is unique in the first place. A mere advanced computer doesn't really recognize or contemplate itself as separate from anything. That's a leap evolution can't explain. 9. How did life start in the first place? Evolution can't account for that. 10. Don't say anything like "the Bible says so," or "everyone knows that." But my best advice is to just leave him alone. None of this is really going to change his mind or make him stop. In fact, it will probably just keep him like this for a much longer time. Once they get like this there's no stopping them by human means. Just let it die, and maybe something will happen to make him change his mind. If not, oh well. It's out of our hands. Besides, as long as we sit and argue, editing's not getting done. Well that's my long-winded advice on that. Hope everything goes well, and I'm praying for ya'll.---G.T.N. (talk) 15:30, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well he archived it. Glad that's over. ---G.T.N. (talk) 22:06, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Finally got around to replying! Don't let something like that push you into retirement, it's not worth it. Besides, the guy's talkin' about it himself. By the way, I've been watching your blog, but I'm not going to get in too deep until someone else says something worth refuting. What happened to the vote? I was interested in that. ---G.T.N. (talk) 00:00, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. As for Filll getting on, I doubt it. He's probably gonna stay away unless it directly involves him, which I'm not sure is something I want right off the bat. He likes to jump from issue to issue and gets offended easier than I'm used (though I am a little agressive), so it would be nice to start with people who are a little more focused. I'll be watchin' for posts.

Dallas Mavericks Article of the Week:

  • Jason Terry was selected by the Atlanta Hawks with the tenth overall pick in the 1999 Draft. His excellent performance earned him a spot on the NBA All-Rookie Team, becoming only the second Hawk to do so. Within a year, he became one of the team's best players and top scorers. The Mavs showed interest in making him a part of their team, and he was traded to the Mavs in 2004, just prior to the start of the season. A solid shooter and three-point shooter, Terry has become an integral part of the Mavs lineup. Historically, he has had mixed performance in the playoffs.

NFL Draft[edit]

You really want to know? I stubbornly ran into the exact same issue a few weeks ago with the article Chris Benoit. Yes, I am aware of WP:HELP, that's where I'd like to link to this page. re: removal of category from Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed[edit]

Greetings RC-0722! I noted that you removed a category from this article, and upon checking the talk Page, found that there is no consensus as discussion is continuing, despite the presence of what appears to be third party sources in supporting this category.

Please do not remove this category until a consensus has been reached. Such deletions could be at least an attempt to push a POV, or could also be considered an attempt to vandalize.

Best of luck and happy editing! LonelyBeacon (talk) 20:42, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Two things:
1. I said the removal of the category, may be POV pushing .... I'm not accusing you or anyone of anything. However, deleting before there is consensus could be interpreted that way.
2. I think there is already a topic started on this ....at least I was reading a topic that seemed to be still in the middle of discussion. LonelyBeacon (talk) 01:01, 5 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Aloha, RC[edit]

I was wondering if you would just consider leaving Filll alone for awhile. The pointless back-and-forth accomplishes nothing, and only leads to further animosity. For the encyclopedia to flourish, we need a community that can respect each other and work colloratively. It does not matter who is right or wrong. Fighting like that does not help foster that sort of environment. Mahalo, RC. --Ali'i 16:35, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RC, I understand the part about attacking someone on the basis of their affiliations constitutes a personal attack; I've seen that before. But I am not sure how that applies to this situation; could you clarify? And while you expressed a desire to end this discussion, it would seem to me that you would not want to leave me lost and confused, which I most certainly am now. You want the comments I've got for you??? Well here you go... (I hope you don't need the following warning) --

VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED:

  • Well, first, I think you should know that I am and explicit, very strong atheist; my type is very rare and abnormal for a human being.
    • Regarding the fish that swims in the others' mouth: that, I think, is a passive trait, something learned/passed down as an instict from the parents. Cooperation is also what some members of species do, but (here comes the abnormal human part) humans do this accesively, and are very unnatural.
    • Regarding one of the userboxes I noticed you had about evolution: I made one as well in your honor (User:Basketball110/Brainwash, and I named it brainwash for a reason). Evolution is no doubt happening all around us. So are mutations. I don't want to engage in a full-scale debate like you did with Filll, but I would like to ask... am I not correct?
    • Regarding your comment on "burgandy": language it self is evolving, as are living things. This is demonstrated in a childs game of "telephone" where one person whispers a word in the other, and it gets passed around many people. The people, to me, symbolize centuries, and the word as a certain species. Evolution has been proved.
    • Regarding amino acids: people (the most unnormal and retarded species ever) create weird things that destroy everything we touch. We are not smart, but good with our hands. Just because (don't take me for a sockpuppet of Filll, escpecially when I say "just because") some human created something doesn't necessarily mean that an "intelligent" being created life.

I guess that's all I have to say at this time. If you are going to reply, please do it here, and added the talkback template to my page. Thanks! Basketball110 My story/Tell me yours 03:02, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I would like to address mutations/evolution first. The thing about mutations is that it is really a loss of information. Next, yes I would probably agree that some languages are evolving. But, as you said, I do not wish to get into another discussion like this at this moment. This is all I can think of for the moment, as it's past midnight and I'm tired, but if you reply then I'll probably respond in the morning. RC-0722 247.5/1 04:36, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
All I've got to lay on the table is the following statement;

In the adventure that many call life, one will meet many. Some of these will be like him, some will not. One must learn how to deal with the differences between he and the other. This is what makes people inferior to others: not intelligence, not race, not religion.

Correct. RC-0722 247.5/1 18:14, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just saw you on Recent Changes commenting on the Expelled talk page. Did you hear about Betacommand getting blocked (attempting to change the subject)? - DiligentTerrier (and friends) 20:04, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Won't work RC-0722 247.5/1 20:13, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If I may... what won't work: blocking Betacommand, or changing the subject? Basketball110 My story/Tell me yours 20:18, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think your last edit got messed up.  :) Corvus cornixtalk 21:57, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Easy, my man[edit]

Keep WP:COOL - where have you been accused of trolling? Pedro :  Chat  20:31, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not at the moment, no. Maybe reading some other articles and seeing how they did their lead will get that lightbulb in your noggin to light up. :) I'll try to think of some myself in the meantime.--RyRy5 (talk wikify) 02:04, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Looks good. But I don't think one sentence is enough really. Maybe a few refs would help. I can't help right now. I'm currently posting an incident at the WP:ANI. I guess you can join soon if you like. It should be up in about 2 minutes.--RyRy5 (talk wikify) 02:53, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Look at the bottom of WP:ANI.--RyRy5 (talk wikify) 02:58, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's okay. We still need to add some refs. I currently can't help out with ref searching right now. A little busy.--RyRy5 (talk wikify) 23:45, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I appreciate you and User:Baseball Bugs helping out the article. I'm currently aiming to get it to GA. I think there is something called a peer review we should try before the GAN. Before GAN, I know we have to expand the lead, expand the article itself, and many more reliable sources/refs.--RyRy5 (talk wikify) 23:49, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

External links[edit]

I saw some of your EL edits to Damon Huard and Tyler Thigpen and I wanted to let you know about Template:Footballstats. With this, you can add links to profiles and stuff on sites like ESPN a lot more easily. This is already in use at Peyton Manning#External links. You can add as many or as few as you'd like, but it's a nice way of linking multiple sites without having to write them all out in a player's EL section.►Chris NelsonHolla! 00:22, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the tips. RC-0722 247.5/1 03:43, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, I forgot to tell you that with ESPN links, you can't use the # from the "statid" link. It has to be the "playerid" link. Like in Aaron Rodgers' case, if you use the code 7200, it won't work. You have to use the code from the link that contains "playerid" in it, which in Rodgers' case is 8439 as seen here. I don't know why ESPN.com uses different codes for these, but they do. So when linking these make sure the link says "playerid" in it to make sure you have the right code. Also if you could, check to see if some of the ones you've done so far are working, and if not replace them with the right code.►Chris NelsonHolla! 19:16, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the tip, and I'll check the one's I've done for mistakes. RC-0722 361.0/1 19:20, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Basically, if you google a guy and find his statid link first, just go to that link and then click something else. For instance, if you google Aaron Rodgers you find his statID link. But if you go to it and click the "Stats" tab, you'll get his playerID link. It's just ESPN's fault for not using the same code all the time. It's a stupid system of theirs.►Chris NelsonHolla! 19:34, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
