Geek Radio Daily[edit]

I created that page for a podcast I enjoy. At first I thought that the notable aspect might tag me for deletion, but I first searched for other podcasts-which have pages. I'm not sure how what I wrote was promotional, I remained as unbiased as I could. It may sound promotional because I wrote it to be neutral, I'm not sure what part is in question. I used only facts and cited them. Jabbakahut (talk) 02:31, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Baltimore ACM Chapter[edit]

I'm responding to your request to contact you with regard to this Wikipedia entry for the Baltimore ACM Chapter. I've twice provided "notability" justification on the talk/discussion page. If you have a chance, please read the entry, then let me know if you still have concerns.

Thanks, Emil Volcheck <volcheck@acm.org> Emil Volcheck (talk) 06:10, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am terribly upset that for some reason the entry for WCYC was deleted. There was no logic for this deletion and a perfect example of the failure of Wikipedia to be a reputable encyclopedia. I mean, come on, you don't want to list historic pirate radio stations and why they are a part of free radio history, but you do want to include small-time bands from just about anywhere on the planet? Oh yes, and how about all those self-promting authors and professors--oh, "let's include them!" What a brilliant idea. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.182.115.44 (talk) 02:05, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Teresa Sue Bratton[edit]

Would the frequency of citation of Dr. Bratton as an allergy expert in Google News help the case for her notability and the worthiness of a Wikipedia entry on her? Rootsdj (talk) 18:40, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notibility of Ralph B. O'Maley Middle School,

Hi I was wondering what is considered ok for a stub of a school sence I oviously have no idea. I have seen many articles of Middle Schools and I belive that this might be a Stub of a School which I thought was fine? Could You Clarify? CelesJalee (talk)CelesJaleeCelesJalee (talk) 04:11, 21 June 2008 (UTC) <BEGIN>RE: WCYC. I have already referenced Andrew Yoder's book, wherein WCYC is mentioned, and this is a "proper" reference and a "reliable source." Scans of documents are acceptable, as not everything is on the WWW. I just cannot upload them until a number of days have passed. I will continue, however, to search out materials, add a bibliography of six books wherein WCYC is mentioned, add photos, and more detailed history of the station[reply]

Baby Pirates, as I've pointed out, are an interesting phenomenon in the history of underground and clandestine radio broadcasting. WCYC is not related to any commercial nor on-going illegal activity. The station, according to record, was shut down by the FCC in the mid 1990s. There can be no argument made for personal gain, self promotion, etc. This is pure history.

I believe Wikipedia is a great forum and place for the encyclopedic documentation of many of the more important underground radio movements that have shaped the cultural makeup of the United States. For example, when we look at the Wikipedia article, "pirate radio," it is immediately obvious that there is disparate and incongruent factual evidence and documentation of its history. Supplementing Wikipedia's database with names of historic pirate radio stations, and underlining the reasons for their importance, will enhance our knowledge as to why it came about, what shaped it, and what it shaped. Moreover, pirate radio history is tightly linked to the history of free speech, and in many ways foreshadowed the arrival of the terrain that is now known as the WWW--pirate radio history is a part of the history of free speech and censorship. I believe this is a worthy entry, and if there is still disagreement, I hope I'll have an full and detailed explanation as to why. Thank you. <END>

I have magazine articles from major Aviation magazines I can cite later, I will make a much better case for notability. Thanks again for your help. Is there a way for me to just see my new messages and not have to scroll through the old?Acxiz (talk) 04:23, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for helping me learn about Wikipedia, I'm only trying to help make it better as you can see by my contributions. I thought the messages on my talk page were just for me to see. I think that it is unfortunate that you consider flight schools as unnotable. None of the current major schools in the US are on your List of Flight Schools page. Within the pilot community this is very notable. I would like to help fix this if possible. Acxiz (talk) 17:36, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why was my article for US Flight Academy deleted? I started at the list of flight schools and wanted to add one that is not on the list. I follow some of the same order and format as the as Kansas State University - Salina because it is very similar in size and has been around as long. Also, the rules say that notibility does not apply to schools. The article was changed several times to be only factual in nature but then still deleted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Acxiz (talkcontribs) 14:55, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Two templates on an article that is less than one minute old is entirely unnecessary. As I am sure you are aware, article building is an ongoing process of expansion and revision. We certainly don't want to scare off new editors by slapping templates on articles that are honestly less than one minute old. the_undertow talk 04:45, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't mean to imply that I was a new editor, but to suggest that others may be discouraged by these templates. Yes, you are correct, they are not the Scarlet Letter, but I think articles should be given more than one minute before templating. the_undertow talk 04:56, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's why I'll leave new page patrol to you. It's generally junior high bands or an article about the 'greatest and cheapest' web-hosting service in teh internets. the_undertow talk 05:07, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please Read[edit]

I don't mean to argue and I don't mean any disrespect. I know you hold authority and I have no interest in undermining that.

I am not affiliated with SugarDVD or with Wantedlist. I am a 21 year old girl in my 2nd year at University and I am writing this article as a communicative writing exercise. Each person in my class had to chose a subject that was not yet in the Wikipedia database, get it approved by the professor, convince the class of it's relevance, and create a Wikipedia article for it. I originally came across the name of this company a year or so ago when I was looking up information on Tori Spelling's fascination with porn. I found the name of the company in an article on page six of the New York Post and I tried to look it up on Wikipedia, which is my go to place for most information. There was no article. I was given this assignment last Thursday and I remembered that this particular subject had no Wikipedia entry so I decided I would tackle it.

I presented it before a class of 55 students, a professor, and a teacher's assistant and I used my original article as support for my case that SugarDVD is a subject worthy of an encyclopedia entry. Adult companies are not typically accepted as "interesting" or "important" which is exactly why I chose this subject. I feel like society approaches the sex industry with a lack of respect and I have never agreed with that. This is just a small article and I am by no means lobbying for change by writing it. I believe the company is interesting. From a business stand point, I am impressed by the exponential growth that happens with many adult companies in the first few years of existence. These companies grow 20 times faster than restaurant chains, coffee houses, and music stores.

Secondly, I am a communications major and I am impressed with their marketing strategy. I have worked in marketing and being persuasive is challenging enough without having the taboo of sex working against you. Once I started reading about SugarDVD, I became more and more interested in how their marketing team was able to create a presence in an America that has become very conservative in the last 15 years. If my article seemed persuasive or promotional, I apologize. I was merely excited and impressed to learn about something new.

Part of writing for a company or making a submission to a website is being rejected or censored but I truly feel this is interesting and worth writing and reading about. I have no qualms making my article more objective but I feel as if I've been slapped in the face to get this far only to be shot down.

If nothing else, my article can't be considered unimportant if these two are.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WantedList

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intelliflix

They are each about adult rental businesses that follow the Netflix business model. Essentially, all three of these articles are about the exact same thing. I added in things about Tori Spelling and other celebrities because those were the news stories that I found about the company and they were cited and I felt that they were notable. Aside from Playboy, I never see any major articles about porn companies in the press.

I don't mean to go on forever but I want to make sure I have made my point. I feel like I have a solid case. I would really appreciate it if you could advise me. Thank you. I really am grateful that you've taken the time to read this.

deletion of Space Is For Stars[edit]

I think that any active band who is gaining recognition and attracting attention, not to mention releasing albums, deserves to have an article about them on wikipedia. If you go around deleting every article about a band you haven't heard of, wikipedia will not be a very valid source for information on new music, and I think that would oppose the intentions of the site. Space Is For Stars is a new band, but they have regular listeners on their myspace page, play shows regularly, and and have a fan base. They have received recognition from 102.1 the Edge, Toronto's top rock radio station, and Martin Streek, who has been in radio since the 80's. They are a permanent and notable fixture on the Toronto music scene, and are only becoming more popular as time goes on. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Garyjellis (talkcontribs) 19:22, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article was absolutely not copied and pasted from any other source. I am actually curious as to how you came to this conclusion. There are many articles on wikipedia that don't meet that criteria, so I guess you have your work cut out for you, better start deleting. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Garyjellis (talkcontribs) 19:53, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair Play vs. Sportable Scoreboard Information[edit]

By going to the two websites you will notice Fair Play has a list of recent installations which changes weekly due to the many installations they do. You will also notice that Fair Play sells scoreboards, accessories, message boards, video boards, and a whole line of scoreboard controllers.

Sportable Scoreboards on the other hand, they only manufacture scoreboards for 9 sports compared to Fair Play's 12. They also don't manufacture video boards, and have one main controller to operate the whole scoreboard and only have a monochrome message editor. Six years ago Sportable Scoreboards started manufacturing scoreboards with LED while Fair Play has been doing it for the last 10.

In addition Fair Play's market also cat-ores to schools because they have a whole line of School Marquees.

Sportable Scoreboards, Varsity Scoreboards, and All Star scoreboards are actually all the same company but just offer different prices because they are sold through different dealers--so they would be counted as one whole company...there biggest--S'portable Scoreboards.

When was the last time you went to a professional sporting facility and saw a Sportable Scoreboard? NEVER!

If you go to: http://www.sportablescoreboards.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=62&Itemid=84 (Look at the big football scoreboard with the message center)

and look at there biggest scoreboard models---they are very small without a video board.

If you go to the Fair Play installation gallery you will find bigger scoreboards and ones with a video board, the scoreboard at the Toledo Mudhens (AAA Baseball) is a Fair Play with two video boards, one 36ft board and two custom made aux---Sportable Scoreboards doesn't even make a custom board if you would ask.

I hope you can now see the differences and the reasons why I did this, and removed Sportable Scoreboards...thank you.

Fair Play II[edit]

I have no connection to Fair Play Scoreboards besides the fact that I know a lot about scoreboards.

Do you want me to provide company size for every single scoreboard company out there to make sure they are the most accurate?

Just by calling the company you can find that the size is notable smaller, three people work in tech. support, and there is one guy to handle all the sales.

I'm not attempting to be an advertiser for Fair Play scoreboards. I was the one that added the three major scoreboard companies, wouldn't I want to make my company #1 if I was an inside source?

You can easily tell that SS is much smaller than FP just by simply looking at the product line and product size, as I have mentioned before the sports offered differs greatly and the scoreboard length sizes also differ. You can find all this information by comparing products from the SS website (sportablescoreboards.com) and the FP website (Fair-play.com)

You can see that FP offers a 45FT long Football model while the largest SS is 32 feet long, plus Fair Play has more options to add to the scoreboard like a message center, back lit captions, video board, architectural truss' and other items. You can find this by getting a Fair Play Scoreboards Catalog or by visiting Fair-Play.com and clicking on Accessories. (some will be there, the rest in the catolog)

You can find Fair Play is a huge company because they have resellers all over the globe. (http://www.fair-play.com/dealers/) However SS only has one person that takes care of sales.

Trans-Lux (which owns fair play) has over 240,000 employes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trans-Lux) I haven't checked with Sportable to be honest but with only one sales person, and knowing there are three service men--I would be sure they don't have 239,993 people working in manufacturing.

Thanks, I hope this provides you with the information you needed, if not I am willing to write more--I didn't want to ramble on.

Old car article[edit]

I noticed the OR tags you placed on this article.

This is an article I am working on constructing, so I have not placed the reference tags at the end of each statement. Some of the statements currently containing the OR tags can be referenced from links found at the ends of other statements. Others can be referenced from links that I have not added yet. In the next few days, I plan to add these tags. I have read a lot of articles on this topic, plenty enough to establish notability.

I do believe that this article could benefit from a name change, though I would like for there to be an open discussion to come up with a better name. I plan to start that soon.Hellno2 (talk) 04:35, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Scoreboards[edit]

WOW! Thats amazing!! You are the second person that actually knows what I mean when I say Fair Play, Naden, etc. Did you hear they aren't making boards anymore (Naden?)

I HATE Daktronics it seems to be all there boards are cheep and have a stupid problem with. In fact when I was in 6th grade (now 8th) I led a team of people to get a new scoreboard from our old Nevco at our school, in 8th grade the project finally went through and I got our school to get (after giving many presentations to the board) a Fair Play Scoreboard. Here you can find a picture of the installation--http://www.fair-play.com/gallery/install_detail.php?id=666

What's your favorite company?

Nice to hear from you!! :) Hope to talk to ya soon!

It's cool that we found something in common! (I'll be in Washington D.C. with my school for the next few days so I might not get on--I'll bring my laptop but i'm not sure they have free wi-fi!)

I've always reserved speedys to vanity articles for random people and their bands. ccwaters (talk) 18:45, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok.. I didn't realize you where following an over anxious Rockford fan. I remember the article was around for quite a while, but looks like it was prodded and deleted before : [1] (he wasn't a pro then BTW). While I contest that minor leaguers are professional and therefore meet WP:BIO, I do frown upon mass indiscriminate creation of their articles: ie I have no desire to include the entire Binghamton Senators roster in en.wiki. WP:HOCKEY has a agreement about just that somewhere (its referenced in the AFD I think). Anyway, I'm content to let the AFD play out and plan to honor the decision. ccwaters (talk) 19:38, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion[edit]

The articles BREEAM management was speedily deleted according to Wikipedia:CSD#A2 although no such article exists on any other wikipedia. this is against guidelines. The article should be restored and tagged differently. It was previously tagges with {{notenglish}}, the correct tag for articles in foreign language that does not exist in the Wikipedia of the respective language. It may then be tagged by editors who read the language, for example as {{prod}} or {{afd}} for lack of notability.  Andreas  (T) 19:26, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If an admin formally declines to speedy delete an article, it's not appropriate to re-add the {{db-spam}} tag. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 05:16, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was in the middle of cutting some of the advertorial crap from the stub, which caused an edit conflict and was probably seen at your end as instantaneous. However, take a look at the article's history, the band, the availability of coverage about this album. AfD'ing potentially viable stubs isn't a chore - it's thoughtless. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 05:23, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree completely with your assessment of the Hen House account. It has done nothing but promote the studio and violate spam/o.r. policies. Not to mention that it should have been blocked to begin with, given the username. That much can be rectified. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 05:30, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

MP-70/MP-50[edit]

Hey, what needs to be added to the MP 70/50 Fair Play Controllers page--or was it a stupid idea to put that page on Wikipedia anyway? If you think the Daks controller is hard to push, try Fair Plays MP ones--they are horrible. Nevco's are okay, but very big and bulkey like Electro-Mech's. I think every controller should have at least a two line LCD. Have you ever run a message/video board? What software have you used? What model of the Daks controller do you have where you are?

Thanks, Danny (talk) 18:45, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the CSD tag you placed on this article. I don't see the copyright violation through the link you pointed out. The text of the article doesn't appear there, only perhaps some confluence between the lists of publications. I'm not sure that even if the list was reproduced identically it would be considered protected from reproduction - if it could be, the list could simply be removed rather than deleting the whole article. Particularly when an article is created by a regular contributor (like User:Mamalujo) it pays to put more careful review into the articles you tag. AvruchT * ER 20:35, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Everyday Rewards (US)[edit]

Hi, I set up the page to disambiguate from the (unrelated) Australian program. Content on the US program had been set up on the Aust article. My next step was to attempt to add content to the US page. It may be that there is not enough content, and perhaps removing the web link would be a good start. I might also encourage the user who added the US content to the Australian site to add further content. Murtoa (talk) 06:17, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'll be more careful next time. I didn't believe there would be so little time (a few minutes) between creation and speedy deletion. I was unclear--I meant the Wikipedia entry on The Computer Animation Production System (CAPS) mentioned David Coons already before I created the entry--thought that might provide additional support: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_Animation_Production_System Okay--so now I just do the tildes, and the Wiki Bot automatically signs me? error[edit]

Sam Swope is an award winning author. You deleted it or caused someone to speedily delete it. Please don't destroy stuff. You didn't even give me a chance to put a hangon tag. What's the hurry? Why speedily delete it. You should stop editing for 3 days because of your probably well meaninged but still destructive speedily delete tag. Presumptive (talk) 04:41, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Stop Vandalizing Verifiable Lists[edit]

This is the last warning you will receive for your disruptive edits of the List of Theaters in Canada. Just because you don't like lists, dosn't mean they don't belong. STOP being a vandal, stop being rude, and leave the lists, OR merge them into one. You may not like it, but others will. List of Cineplex Odeon theatres, List of Famous Players theatres, and List of Galaxy Cinemas theatres are verifiable. Stop removing the link to their pages. I will report you to admin if I have to. AllanVS (talk) 14:42, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The above "warning" does not conform to Wikipedia's guidelines for issuing user warnings. User:AllanVS was irate because I nominated his article for speedy deletion, then PROD, then AfD. This user subsequently was properly warned and then reported to WP:AIV for blocking. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 17:04, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mark Frutkin Page[edit]

Hi,

I'm [name removed at request of author] logged in as Mark Frutkin. I'm his Web designer http://www.markfrutkin.com and I actually posted the information on the page. He and I both collaborated on writing it, and I can assure you it is all correct, right down to the links and awards. Since the Wikipedia site seems nearly impossible for me to navigate (it's a maze in here!) I hope you are the right contact to be making. In any case, the page is correct and I really don't know what else that needs to be done, other than logging in with another username and re-posting. You can verify I am actually the owner of the Mark Frutkin account as my email address I used to sign up is mine. I thought it would be easiest to use his name so he could login if ever he wanted to take a look at the material.

Please advise!

Thanks,—Preceding unsigned comment added by Mark Frutkin (talkcontribs) 16:28, 15 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I created the article for the loyalty association as they were interviewed on BBC Radio 2 this afternoon on the cashback industry. Phreak79 (talk) 18:27, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

John Gittinger page[edit]

I changed the text on this page so that it is not a copy of the biography on the PASF web site. The article is now shorter and uses footnotes to reference other information.

The article is missing the birth/death dates of Dr. Gittinger. I know these approximately, but am waiting to find the correct dates.

There is a bit of a dilemma here. There is a fairly extensive research literature on the PAS (one bibliography is in a footnote) but none of it by Dr. Gittinger even though he is mentioned and acknowledged as the true inventor of the PAS in virtually every one of these articles.

During his productive years, some of his most important work was not public, such as indirect assessment of foreign leaders performed in his work for the CIA. Glimpses of this work show up in John Marks' book and in other books. There are a limited number of people still alive who actually know the whole story of Dr. Gittinger's service to the United States. Using the CIA as a "claim to fame" is tricky business, but the truth is that Dr. Gittinger was a key person in an important role.

Gittinger / Personality Assessment System[edit]

This is my first time to enter or edit a Wikipedia article.

I put up two articles: Personality_Assessment_System and John_Gittinger (who invented the PAS)

I wrote both articles with references to sources which would help a person who wanted to more about the subject. The motive was to help readers, not to promote the Personality Assessment System Foundation. I was not aware that these helpful references would be viewed as promoting the foundation.

The purpose of these articles is to allow researchers and others to discover the Personality Assessment System which made a significant contribution to the field of personality assessment. The purpose was not to promote the PAS Foundation. The Foundation actually has nothing about it to promote. It consists of the the minimal organization needed to organize an annual conference of people who use or are learning the PAS. The Foundation also maintains a set of historical archives at Hocking College in Nelsonville, Ohio. No one in the Foundation receives any pay for anything they do for it.

The history of the PAS makes the work of documenting it tricky. Dr. Gittinger worked for the CIA during his productive years. This means that some aspects (applications) of the PAS were not public. Worse, Dr. Gittinger was not a promoter or publisher. His colleagues and co-researchers were constantly after him to publish. It is an odd situation. There are scores of research articles on the PAS which all reference Dr. Gittinger as the inventor, yet there are virtually no research articles and there is no book by Dr. Gittinger!

Two of his close associates did publish a serious academic book in 1994, which was referenced in the article which was deleted.

To be clear, I am a member of the PASF, which means I pay my dues and go to the conferences. I do this because I know the PAS and have used it in research and for other applications. I am not a board member of the foundation, nor did I ever have ANY part in developing the PAS or establishing the foundation.

I have done research and development of ways to use the PAS. I understand that writing about that specific work myself would not be appropriate. But regarding the PAS and John Gittinger, they are things I greatly respect and know something about, but not something I in any way "own".

ADDITION: Your comments seemed to indicate a concern about promoting a "foundation". You could have told me as a new Wikipedia person to delete references to the organanization. I would gladly have done this. A person looking up Personality Assessment System because they saw it referred to in an article or book could still have know the basic thrust of what the PAS is without referring to the foundation. I thought that by referring to the foundation, it would help readers know that this was something substantial and real. Apparently, it was taken differently.

Finally, I am not sure you understand what academic societies are (e.g. ACM, MAA) - they are not trade groups which "promote", they are associations of people who share an academic discipline. The PASF is an academic (albeit a small one) society.

Deletes faster than replies[edit]

Not particularly encouraging. Topics are deleted in seconds and replies don't come for several hours, if at all. How is a new member supposed to learn if mods from another country edit posts on which they must have very limited knowledge and then provide no recourse for debate afterwards? I deleted the publications section that you felt was subject to copyright protection. The remainder of the article does not seem to have any reason for speedy deletion so I would appreciate it if you could remove the tag while we resolve the issue of the publications section. As user:Avruch noted above, I don't see a copyright violation. I believe mere lists are only data or facts and without some element of creativity are not subject to copyright protection. Not quite sure what you were doing by removing the website links to the official web site at Lebanon Raceway as well as that of the Warren County Fair. Neither would qualify as spam links, as you indicated in your edit comment. They were improperly formatted, which I have fixed.

Thank you for reformatting the link. I am always slightly wary of links being added to articles in a poorly-formatted fashion - as to whether they really are genuine or whether they merely need tweaking. You're right, the links look fine as they are now. Bobo. 01:15, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure if I'm jumping to conclusions here, but it appears Presumptive is canvassing for support for Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Murder of Joseph Didier (2nd nomination). He hasn't flat out asked for people to vote keep, but he did contact everyone who voted keep from the last AfD. AniMate 03:26, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The conclusion you make is not true. These people are the kinds of people that may help the article and may also give ideas on how to stop the repetitive AFD's. If you can think of ways to improve articles, then by all means do so. It's more of an honor to rescue an article then to nominate a lot of AFD's. Presumptive (talk) 03:52, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Following me[edit]

I see that you originally didn't like my Sam Swope article and AFD'ed it. I hope you don't dislike me and are following me around.

Sam Swope was an award winning author. But having it deleted doesn't ruffle my feathers. Joey Didier, compared to Swope, is a far more significant event. It's not just some faceless death in Louisville, KY or Lexington, KY. The non-stop coverage and fear is probably not known by many in other parts of the country.

One year, about 54,000 people wrote protests or signed petitions which is amazing considering that the city has only 150,000 people. Even if you consider that some may live nearby and are not part of the 150,000, 54,000 is an amazing number. You should have seen the frenzy in person.

So if you can help strengthen the article, please do so. Don't just make up your mind and want to destroy it and destroy me. We can really use your help!  :) Presumptive (talk) 04:59, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

FYI[edit]

You wrote Therefore, we cannot verify these claims and cannot consider them to be accurate (about the thousands of protests). Let me get the reference for you. In a minute...Presumptive (talk) 06:25, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There were 51,700 in all.

Faced with a paper mountain of protests and the facts surrounding the 1975 murder of Rockford's Joey Didier, the Illinois Prisoner Review Board took less than 15 minutes Thursday to unanimously deny parole to Robert Lower.

The above from...http://www.rrstar.com/news/x540397362

I am not fighting you. With Sam Swope, ok. Joey Didier is an entirely different matter. It's not one of those daily murders you read about in the papers. It's a very significant event in the regional history.

The fact that tens of thousands protested is not made up as you suggests. It's reliably referenced. Presumptive (talk) 06:29, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A different article[edit]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clara_L._Harris is an article about a lady who killed her dentist husband. I suspect that 35 years from now there will be no huge community protest about this. No murder is ever minor but I suspect this murder will be less notable in 30 years than the Didier kidnapping and murder.

You may say "other crap exists" but this is NOT the point. The point is that I seriously doubt the dentist murder will stand the test of time. In 30 years, the dentist article may be very ripe for AFD. Presumptive (talk) 06:50, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy tagging[edit]

Hi, thanks for your work on reviewing new articles, but could I please ask you to try and give some stubs just a bit more time to flesh out? I've been mentoring a new user, Tundrabuggy (talk · contribs), who I've been encouraging to create stubs. He created Israelinsider, added multiple sources, did one save, and you tagged it for deletion within 60 seconds. Then an admin deleted it within seconds after that. I do agree that some articles are truly egregious and need to be deleted "on the spot", but for other stubs, which are often created in multiple passes, sometimes it's good to give them at least 24 hours to flesh out, and then determine if they should be deleted. I'd also point out that "Israelinsider" is being used as a source by other articles, which again, makes it seem a useful stub. So you may wish to check "what links here" on some grey area pages, to see whether or not they're genuinely orphaned or not. For now, no major harm done. I have asked the deleting admin to restore the page, and Tundrabuggy can resume work. But I did want to drop you a note. Thanks, Elonka 16:44, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I second this. Please do not BITE new users. I have removed the nn tag, as it clearly attempts to indicate why it is notable, has multiple citations, and was restored by an admin, so it deserves an AFD at least. John Vandenberg (chat) 22:25, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Look at it another way[edit]

Hi Real,

I saw what you wrote to me about the messages removed. I was simply housekeeping. This is allowed. I haven't seen anywhere in Wikipedia that says it is forbidden.

Sometimes, it's good to look at things from someone else's perspective. Note that this is not my perspective concerning you but just a plausible one.

An editor opposes an article. He makes a AFD then continues to hound the other editor by finding fault with subsequent articles and trys to AFD them. He then places warnings like "you think you can erase them, well you can't, and in a subtle way I'm telling you not to".

While this is just a hypothetical scenario and not exactly like you, why not either leave me alone or help an article? By following me around, you are skewing the AFD.

Some AFD are created and others just happen to see them and comment. This isn't the case. In your case, you specifically picked on me to take a critical look at, more so that you do to other articles.

I'm not saying these things to fight with you. I am only saying these things to see if you can help, to see if we can part ways without you following me, or to give you a perspective of possible scenarios. I ask that you not try to justify your behavior, just either help or leave me alone. We can meet again in a couple of weeks, ok?

Best,
Presump. Presumptive (talk) 02:19, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that there is no Online Travel Agency category on Wikipedia. It may be good to add that since OTA is becoming well know as a term used to define a category of travel cos.

I guess a feeel sorry for the guy. he hasnt reall had enough of a chance to build a good article and people keep taring it down without giving him a chance. right now this article doesnt meat wP:n BUT he should be given the same chance as every other editor to improve his article before it is finally deleted. Smith Jones (talk) 21:44, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Don't let Presumptive's actions get the better of you. The things he is doing aren't going to carry a lot of weight in the AfD discussion, though I think there should probably be a very clear note about the canvassing. Putting in a sentence at the bottom of a solicitation/help wanted ad about the AfD stating that it isn't canvassing doesn't make that true. Anyway, if for some insane reason the closing admin keeps the article, there's also WP:DRV. Presumptive's antics have actually hurt him more than helped him, since there are clearly some very questionable actions from the user we could bring up in a review. AniMate 06:40, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

presumptive adoption[edit]

Hi this is just a quick note to say I've adopted User:Presumptive. If you could link me to where he has been, in your view, canvassing, and to any other arguably problematic behaviours so I can have a concise idea of the problems and help him improve, it would be a great help. Sticky Parkin 13:39, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Of course we can issue warnings and of course if we report people to WP:AIV they are usually dealt with. I personally would only say 'you may well be blocked' but that's all I would personally say. That's just my personal preference though and also because it's a fact that we can't directly block if we're just editors. There are ways to use twinkle or other tools that aren't the best and a more tailored message is often better. Especially if it isn't incontrovertable vandalism of the expletives in an article and calling their friends gay or something type.:) It's more for IP vandals or accounts which are obviously deliberately only vandalism of the crude type. But I've not looked at all Presumptive's edits which you consider vandalism- I don't think he's actually entirely unarguably done vandalism on articles but of course if he removes others' comments from any talk page other than his own deliberately that's vandalism, also edit warring isn't good in articles but that's better reported at WP:3RR and would just result in a brief block at first. Speedy Deletion for Tick(Time)[edit]

Patent nonsense and gibberish, an unsalvageably incoherent page with no meaningful content. This does not include: poor writing, partisan screeds, obscene remarks, vandalism, fictional material, material not in English, badly translated material, implausible theories, or hoaxes; some of these, however, may be deleted as vandalism in blatant cases.

The page was not nonsense nor unsalvageably incoherent. Please make sure you read what you are telling others. If anything, it should have been marked for expansion. Please, make sure to think about what you post. FYI, the list of things are NOT part of G1 as I have bolded out for you.

RE: Sorry, I did not mean to seam like I was lashing out. Many times people will just put up things without thinking about it. Yes, the page was too short, but it did not break G1. It should have been marked as a stub, and been requested for elaboration or deletion. Most people do not actually read all the information on reporting pages before they actually mark the page. I thought you were one of those people, and I just wanted to point out to you that, while I do agree that page was inadequate, it was not violating that specific rule. --

Perhaps the format that the information presented in wasn't acceptable to you.

I GET THAT. AHEM, I AM NEW HERE. Yes, i have already learned alot, like if your going to say its free, etc.. Find better data to back up my claims, and really, honesly as much as you really want to believe yourself that you did a good service in deleting a BAD spam, or advertisement page, all you really did is stop a page that suggests different ways of looking at the number PI. There never was, never will be, and isn't any self or company or product advertisement going on, no services were offered on any page, no method of exchange of money was shown. Sorry, your not going to win the argument that it was promoting anything but another way to apply PI to the universe. Like it or lump it, it will make it back here. And I will be sure to forward all related published articles and wikipedia pages directly to you.

Instead of being a constructive individual, and help me see how I need to change the page, or even help me to see why ALL of the information on the page was totally deemed worthless? You didn't even try to edit it. YOU JUST DELETED IT.

You don't deserve to be an editor of anything but toilet paper.

Your an idiot who needs to get out more, really. Again as much as you need to justify your jittery finger over the delete button, you did NOT give me enough time to learn, much less CHANGE the issues at hand. I don't have any problem linking to a page that has nothing on it anyway, I just can't upload images to wiki. I would keep it all here.

No apology necessary to me. I figured that is what happened. I'm willing to call the "template message" vandalism of a sort, but I hope that you will not refer to his other edits in projectspace, disruptive though they may be, as vandalism. I don't think that he approached the merger with the intent to do mischief. I think he really felt that inclusionism/ARS/WICU should be under one roof. We may disagree with that (I do, partially), but it isn't fair to call those specific edits vandalism. Protonk (talk) 20:25, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pointer to WP:COIN[edit]

WP:UAA is only for username problems, not ordinary conflicts of interest. The fact that the username happens to hint at that conflict of interest doesn't mean that the username is the problem. You're looking for the Conflict of Interest Noticeboard.

The distinction is important because not every COI requires a block -- often people don't realize there's a problem with writing about themselves or their groups -- and because COI issues are rarely handled well at the frenetic pace of UAA. rspeer / ɹəədsɹ 00:18, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not really, no. Nobody's going to read the name "Iwirewiki" as "go buy I-wireless products" when they see it in an edit history. They're just being honest about who they are, and that helps you deal with the conflict of interest. There really isn't a rule that says you get blocked for editing an article that's similar to your username.
Besides, why should the username trump everything? If you give them a username block, that says they're free to keep doing what they were doing but to be less obvious about it next time. My advice is to be glad you have such an easy COI case to deal with and stop worrying about the tenuous "promotionality" of the name. rspeer / ɹəədsɹ 06:39, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of my article "Medicated Band"[edit]

Hi!

I am sorry to contact you on this matter. I just created an article and it got deleted immediately without any notice (i did not have time to back up the text)

The "Speedy Deletion" text indicated that my contribution did not have anything relevant, so it is not suitable in Wikipedia. On the contrary. Aleksi Sihvonen is a famous metal vocalist (Imperanon for example) and the article was about his new band.

Therefor I feel like the contribution was deleted without any reasonable cause.

Notability of Magic City Jazz Orchestra members and Removal of Liner Notes[edit]

Please note that Magic City Jazz Orchestra members such as Cleveland Eaton (formerly with Ramsey Lewis and also the Count Basie Orchestra) fulfill paragraph number 6 of the Band Noability guidelines as they are defined:

6. Contains at least one member who was once a part of or later joined a band that is otherwise notable; note that it is often most appropriate to use redirects in place of articles on side projects, early bands and such, and that common sense exceptions always apply.

Furthermore, the glowingly complimentary liner notes written by Bob Belden, Grammy Award winning composer, arranger and producer (former head of A & R for Blue Note Records) DOES, in fact, serve to illustrate the Orchestra's credibility and notability.

In addition, the liner notes WERE used by permission of their author, Bob Belden. Where can I obtain information on the official Wikipedia "Permission for Use" process? Please let me know, and I will provide such proof. Allenstone Allenstone (talk) 05:08, 13 August 2008 (UTC)Allenstone (talk) 05:09, 13 August 2008 (UTC)Allenstone[reply]

Possible "Conflict of Interest" believed to be invalid[edit]

Hello Realkyhick. I need some help here, please. Someone (I don't know who) tagged my article Magic City Jazz Orchestra as possibly having a conflict of interest. I don't believe this is the case. I believe this claim about my article on the "Magic City Jazz Orchestra" is invalid. The article simply states documented facts about the MCJO and makes no claims which are incorrect or potentially libelous. The statements about the MCJO in the article are not "flashy" or "hype", but merely simple statements of fact. The group is young, but has a respectable mission of recording music by well-known but under-recorded (as leader) jazz artists, such as Lou Marini and Lew Soloff. The fact that such well-known and respected artists such as Lew Soloff and Lou Marini record with the group should serve to validate the MCJO's notability. Please help me make this article "more neutral." Allenstone (talk) 16:37, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi There,

I just created a Wiki page for my band 5th Time Lucky and after a lot of work creating it, I get a note telling me that it's up for speedy deletion. Why it this? 88-Keys deletion issue[edit]

I appreciate the further description of this matter. Information regarding this album was found at an independent website, not the artists MySpace page, personal web site or the record label web page. This is not a collection of songs from various artists randomly created by an unreliable source. This album is produced, performed and copyrighted by 88-Keys and Decon Records. The album is available for digital download and was released to promote the major debut of 88-Keys' album The Death of Adam which will be released on October, 28, 2008, executively produced by Kanye West, which makes it a very legitimate album. Information regarding this mixtape was found at a reputable website which I did reference, and has no ties to the artist in any way. This article was made to promote the effort that 88-keys has put into his work, wherther it be this mixtape, his new album or any previous works produced and performed by him. As it relates to 88-Keys, I created this article to give people an idea about this influencial hip-hop artist and pioneer. If I cannot write an article about his work, with legitimate sources, without it being deleted then what is the point. I believe that if this article is about him, and many other websites are promoting this album, which I have referneced, making it important to the artists history, there should be no conflict of interets. I do not know what else I should do, please advise. If I have to I'll contact the artist and his label for more advice. Bmedick (talk) 16:08, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why shouldnt i get emotionally attached?[edit]

Dear Why shouldnt i? very new concept. Wikipedia is giving authentic information without any charge. This site is totally depend on donation. Great Job.... Peoples who are working with Wikipedia also hardworker and prompt too. I never seen such a fast response. I also want to give my little bit effort to Wikipedia. You know my aim is to get few rights from Wikipedia to accept or reject any particular article. Thats why i am working so hard for wikipedia and trying to give any information which i have in my knowledge or is from our area.

Hope soon Wikipedia will appriciate my effort.

I know this is not profitable site so i m not doing all this for money.

Please guide me time to time for doing good.

sleepy[edit]

There's this guy who speaks at City Council meetings whose views are diametrically opposed to mine. He always prefaces his remarks with "Sleepy, Li'l ol' Largo". So I took it for my own. Cheers, Dlohcierekim 00:52, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

88-Keys - Adam's Case Files[edit]

Realkyhick, I have added more sources and external links in regards to this album that are not related to the artist, the record label, or any promotional website. This album, although labeled as mixtape by me, is actually a precursor to the artists debut album being released in october. Please advise.Bmedick (talk) 04:41, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for catching that. How embarrassing! :D --Moonriddengirl (talk) 15:42, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of James F. Reda & Associates, LLC[edit]

Realkyhick..

I am discouraged that this article has been deleted.. I have followed all of the guidelines to posting an article about a company. I have provided references.. copywrite notice, publications, media clips and numerous other ways proving this is not a promotion of the company, but rather displaying information of the company. If you have a recommendation on how else I am supposed to follow the guidelines please let me know. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Swiggins2 (talkcontribs) 13:50, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: New Jersey school[edit]

I hadn't expected him to create a whole new page, but now that he has, I'm going to let him finish and then the content can probably be merged into List of school districts in New Jersey. What he's doing can be useful, and should help the main list out. Having things move or get deleted now is just going to make things a bit difficult. He's a new user, so let's give him the benefit of the doubt and see how things turn out. Hersfold (t/a/c) 04:24, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of The National Center for Midwest Art and Design[edit]

Dear Realkyhick, This speedy deletion does not make any sense. The National Center for Midwest Art and Design is an educational institution connected to the Figge Art Museum and Knox College, it is NOT a company or corporation, as you put it. It is headed by an eminent professor of art history and it employs two curators. It is a resource for academics and students who need to access works of art and other related documents regarding 19th and 20th century Midwest art and artists. It possesses the largest collection of Frank Lloyd Wright material in the country. It also owns the Grant Wood Archives. It is no different than other academic organizations found on wikipedia, such as the National Center for Supercomputing Applications and the National Center for Policy Analysis. Are you saying that academic centers studying art and art history should be banned from wikipedia? I certainly hope not... Piersbertrand (talk) 07:22, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New Mobility Agenda (due for overhaul)[edit]

Your point is very well taken. 100% on target. This is a complex and I believe very important entry, but it needs to be shortened, simplified, and referenced. Please give me a month to fix since I want to do it once and right, and am at present going under with my day job. Foot notes for Magic City Jazz Orchestra article[edit]

I just finished putting in-line citations in the Magic City Jazz Orchestra article. Also, I will remove some of the external links that are now superfluous. Allenstone (talk) 19:12, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you will look a little closer on the Bates Brothers website, you will find Lou Marini listed as one of Bates' clients. Also, there is a picture there of Lou Marini, Ray Reach and Eric Bates at a recording session for the "Lou's Blues" CD. If you will do a search for the Magic City Jazz Orchestra on Amazon.com, you will find the "Lou's Blues" CD for sale, along with some more reviews. Allenstone (talk) 19:30, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have now replaced the not-so-good Bhamwiki.com references with ones I found at AllAboutJazz.com. This is a very reputable, and widely known in the jazz world, jazz music site, on a par with Down Beat magazine, etc. For some reason, the Bates Brothers Recording website would not let me direct to a specific page, so I made a reference to the page in the link. Allenstone (talk) 21:38, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the help with the Magic City Jazz Orchestra article. With your help, maybe I can figure out this Wikipedia stuff. Allenstone (talk) 14:04, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A Light Jog[edit]

Hi, I understand why you would think that some unsigned chump band should be speedily deleted, but the reason why I put the article up there is because of the band's originality. No music is like this, and I think that people could find this music interesting. Also, I am NOT the member of A Light Jog. However, I am the member's cousin. Nick Seney does not know that I am creating this article on his band. So I would appreciate it if you were to keep this article, because of the band's sheer originality. Thank You. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Seney (talkcontribs) 03:48, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedying prodded articles[edit]

When you insert a speedy deletion tag in an article that already has a prod tag, you should leave the prod, just in case an administrator judges that your speedy rationale is inapplicable. Prod tags should be removed only by people who want the article kept. -- Blanchardb -MeMyEarsMyMouth- timed 19:11, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
