Orphaned non-free media (Image:MSSUlogo.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:MSSUlogo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 07:45, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

NowCommons: Image:Montycamo.jpg[edit]

Image:Montycamo.jpg is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:Image:USS Montepelier (CL-57)-Tarn.jpg. This is a repository of free media that can be used on all Wikimedia wikis. The image will be deleted from Wikipedia, but this doesn't mean it can't be used anymore. You can embed an image uploaded to Commons like you would an image uploaded to Wikipedia, in this case: [[Image:USS Montepelier (CL-57)-Tarn.jpg]]. Hello Reb[edit]

We've been criss-crossing a bit at the National Statuary Hall Collection or . .... something or another and I decided to peek at your user page and looking at your schools wondered if one was the same one the Dixon, New Mexico and the Pathetics (hmmmm. Still in red? ) sax player Matt attended and sure enough, it was. Matt looks like this.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/60188803@N00/sets/72157607074676519/

I was also wondering if you were there (the Capitol) when I last was and the answer is "No." I did manage to sneak a shot from my trip into the article, and it's one of my few remaining sculpture pictures on wikipedia. Anyway, just saying hello, life is supposed to be interesting. Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 16:05, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Howdy, 'fraid I've never met the above photographed Matt. Regardless, have a good one! ~ (The Rebel At) ~ 04:58, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for fleshing out that article and adding some great pictures! I spent New Year's Day adding almost 40 stubs for Missouri state parks and historic sites, and I appreciate any help taking them beyond stub. That article may still deserve some attention, but thanks to your help it is no longer a stub, and I'll probably remove that tag from it.

One question... You wrote that Bothwell was a life-long widower. It's hardly possible that he was born a widower. Was he a long-time widower, or a life-long bachelor? Also, it would help if you provided a reference for the material you added. Not only would it help clarify issues like that, it would help prevent someone from tagging as lacking references. --Kbh3rdtalk 03:55, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I missed where you linked to the state park's website as an external link. I changed it to citation style and called it a reference. If you used other sources you could cite them, too. Thanks again. --Kbh3rdtalk 04:07, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I visited Bothwell just this last weekend, and actually wrote the short bit based on the tour and a very short write up on a shelter outside the home (hence the lack of direct citations). I hadn't even thought to check the website (posted by someone else, actually). I'll go back tomorrow and use the website to add a bit more detail and what have you. I have some interior shots, I might pick one to toss up. Though, I don't want the article to get buried under too many photos. Anyhoots, happy to add some work to the article! 04:55, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with File:Bud Walton Arena Interior.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Bud Walton Arena Interior.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by STBotI. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 22:00, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

GA reassessment of Dixie Mission[edit]

Photo of John Paton Davies[edit]

Thanks for uploading the photo of John Paton Davies. I would like to include it in my forthcoming book about diplomats who dissented during the Cold War. I'm a bit confused about the copyright status of the photo, since, as you say, you just scanned it from Dragon by the Tail. You can reach me at hrg2@nyu.edu. Fair use rationale for File:Kojiariyoshi.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Kojiariyoshi.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 15:07, 19 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Possibly unfree File:Gagnongrave.jpg[edit]

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:Gagnongrave.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files because its copyright status is unclear or disputed. If the file's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. You may find more information on the file description page. You are welcome to add comments to its entry at the discussion if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 22:17, 1 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I just saw your comment about the image being deleted. I sympathize and wish I could help. Personally thats why I stopped uploading images. No matter what justificatoin I added to the image someone always deleted it for some reason. Unless it comes from something like the National Archives or Library of Congress and you can prove it or you take a picture of something like flora or fawna its pretty hard to prove to someone its your own work. Strangley enough, even gravestones ina public place. --Kumioko (talk) 16:54, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the post. It was a hot day that I spent walking throughout Arlington and by the time I had returned, this photo one of many I'd taken (others of which are also on Wikipedia), I was pretty wiped out. I'm hoping getting this fixed will be significantly easier. I can't believe I didn't have sufficient information in the file page, but since it's deleted, I can't review it to find out. One of the strengths of this community are the very talented photographers (not one of 'em, myself), and it'd be rather depressing to see people discouraged to contribute because some are a bit more engaged in cracking down on perceived wrongs, rather than obvious ones.~ (The Rebel At) ~ 15:55, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:HisExcellency.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:HisExcellency.jpg, which you've sourced to (Book Cover). I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 22:37, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
