Thanks for your help!

Thanks for your help over at Jesse Marcel! It looking much better than when we started! I know you mentioned being busy this month, but once we get Marcel to GA, I'd love if you could take a look at Roswell incident. It needs a lot of work, but your input would be greatly valued. Feoffer (talk) 00:53, 20 April 2023 (UTC)

It's no problem. And yeah, it's looking good. I just need to sit down this weekend, check through it, and update the template to passed. I'll take a peek at Roswell incident, but it's a much weirder topic from a Wikipedia perspective. I'll leave some input there, but likely won't get nearly so involved. DYK for Leroy Chollet

On 24 April 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Leroy Chollet, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that former NBA basketball player Leroy Chollet benched his own coach? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Leroy Chollet. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Leroy Chollet), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

NBA stats, including that of Leroy Chollet

Good day, @Rjjiii. I do not know what your level of interest is in the NBA and professional basketball, but your interest is evident enough that you spent significant time and effort expanding the Leroy Chollet article. He was a man with quite the interesting life story, wasn't he? Thank you most absolutely for your efforts on that page, and for having elevated the article to both a Good Article and a DYK nomination. Those are no small feats on Wikipedia, especially doing so with the same article.

Among the expansions you added were that of his career basketball stats. I gave the stats a polishing so that they could be more greatly up to Wikipedia's standards for basketball stats; this included splitting up certain stat tables per league, adding cumulative career averages, and adding his NBA playoff stats. On the note of NBA stats, there are an abundance of NBA player pages that are completely void of stat tables detailing such stats.

I was reaching out because, if you happen to be interested in generating stat tables in articles without such, then I assembled this list of BAA, NBA, and ABA player pages without stats tables. As well, this list is a WNBA equivalent. I have a goal of the English Wikipedia having stat tables for all such player articles. (As of recent, I have especially been active with uploading the stats for players in the NBA's earlier history.) If this is something you are interested in helping out with, while removing entries from these two lists as you post their respective stats (no pressure, of course), that would be highly appreciated.

Thank you, and feel free to contact me, help with the lists, or give feedback at any time. Mungo Kitsch (talk) 08:06, 8 May 2023 (UTC)

@Mungo Kitsch: Thanks for the kind words! And thanks for cleaning up the article; I was not certain, what the expectations were for formatting the data. I'll take a look at the list, but don't know if I'll be much help. Good luck with the project, Rjjiii (talk) 09:11, 8 May 2023 (UTC)

Confirming ping

Just a quick note to confirm that I received your ping from here. Thank you for that, but I doubt I can add much more to the discussion without unhelpfully repeating my earlier comments. I have - once again - learned that WP:COAL is an excellent essay. JoJo Anthrax (talk) 14:41, 19 May 2023 (UTC)

I don't know if you are aware of this but if you have anything to add to it I'd appreciate it. I should have done more after I created it but cancer operations and treatment got in the way. 1930s Canadian "Ezekiel's Wheel" UFO?

Hey Rjjiii, I was editing a completely different article that supposedly had no connection to UFOs, but.. funny story!

Have you ever heard anything about an "Ezekiel's Wheel" being reported in 1930s Canadian newspapers? Apparently, 13 years before Kenneth Arnold, there may have been a brewing legend of an apocalypic Japanese airplane that was cited over Canada.

Here's a link to the relevant article, any wisdom from you much appreciated: Talk:Wallace_Fard_Muhammad#Tracking_down_"Mother_Plane"_UFO_incident? Feoffer (talk) 09:47, 16 July 2023 (UTC)

@Feoffer: I think you're on track with language. Edward J. Ruppelt coined UFO to have a more specific language than "flying saucer" which as you say goes back to 1947. So WFM would not have used that language.
A general kind of religious/sci-fi combination of things in the sky wouldn't be completely anachronistic though. 1933 would be contemporary with Richard Sharpe Shaver who (understandably) had something halfway between a religious experience and a mental breakdown after he was persecuted as a socialist, lost his brother, became an alcoholic, was forcibly institutionalized, found out his wife died over the phone, had his only child taken by his remaining family to protect the kid from Shaver, and finally went on the run. Shaver's stories after he goes on the run are filled with both strange beings and flying craft.
The mother plane sounds interesting, but I may pass on digging into it. I have too many other articles that I'm working on at once on here. Good luck, Rjjiii (talk) 16:42, 16 July 2023 (UTC)

Make one for me

Can you make a Player Profile Header For At least one of these NBA Players For Me? I dont know how to edit a page, its complicated, so can you make one for me Please???? Alt least for one of these players. Allen Iverson, Kyrie Irving , or Anthony Davis. JwillWiki454 (talk) 09:54, 15 August 2023 (UTC)

JwillWiki454 are you familiar with the "sandboxes" or "userspace" on Wikipedia? You're welcome to draft a page or a section of a page within your userspace which are just pages beginning with User:JwillWiki454/. I've gone ahead and opened up a sandbox page at User:JwillWiki454/sandbox. You can create multiple sandboxes if you need them. Just type in or link to a not yet existent page in your userspace like User:JwillWiki454/sandbox2 or User:JwillWiki454/Iverson's crossover. You can use these to work at your own pace and tinker without people reverting your changes and then merge the content into the main article when it's ready. Hope that helps, Rjjiii (talk) 02:59, 16 August 2023 (UTC)

Thanks!

Hey! Saw it too late to comment over there, but just wanted to say thanks for your help on citations over in the Teahouse!! Remainsuncertain (talk) 00:51, 16 August 2023 (UTC)

No problem, Remainsuncertain; Wikipedia itself handles citations in a really basic way so there are quite a very different solutions to citation formatting. If you have any confusion about {{rp}}, shortened footnotes, any of the citation templates or whatever, feel free to ask. Rjjiii (talk) 02:47, 16 August 2023 (UTC)
Thanks! Actually, would you mind taking another look at the Davis citations on Portrait of Madame X and let me know if I've done them right? There are other citations with the same issue, just want to make sure I'm using Template:Rp correctly before I fix them. Remainsuncertain (talk) 21:28, 16 August 2023 (UTC)
Remainsuncertain, yes that's how {{rp}} is meant to be used. A few references have different page numbers in the {{cite xxx}} template, which is confusing. Rjjiii (talk) 02:51, 17 August 2023 (UTC)
Ah, didn't catch that - thanks again!! Remainsuncertain (talk) 02:42, 19 August 2023 (UTC)
Yeah, it never hurts to have somebody take a second look over your work. And these multiple citation systems are pretty messy. The Wikimedia Foundation came up with something they called "book referencing" that would have natively supported citing different parts of the same source. By the time they started beta testing, volunteer editors (like us) had already made a good twenty or so templates. It looked like they would just be adding one more solution to the pool of conflicting options, so they shelved it. Good luck, Rjjiii (talk) 03:03, 19 August 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for this well presented article. The first time I came across Piri Reis was in the early 1970s in Robert Charroux's rather sensational Histoire inconnue des hommes depuis cent mille ans (first published 1963). Fortunately, as you show, a lot more serious scientific research has been undertaken since then.--Ipigott (talk) 10:01, 18 August 2023 (UTC)
Many thanks, Ipigott for the kind words and the link. I'm from a different generation but had a somewhat similar introduction to Piri Reis. In the late 90s, my first exposure was combing through a spooky Atlantis website on the family PC, then reading Fingerprints of the Gods inside a deep south strip mall library between the karate studio and video rental. It turns out, that there are somewhat more reliable sources out there. Rjjiii (talk) 04:17, 19 August 2023 (UTC)

refbegin change

Hello Rjjiii - What does {{refbegin|20em}} mean? How is it different from {{refbegin|3}}? TwoScars (talk) 16:20, 14 September 2023 (UTC)

Hi TwoScars, "20em" gives the width of the columns, and "3" gives the quantity of the columns. The 3-column (or however many number of columns) method is being deprecated for flexibility. On a small screen, a 3-column display can result in a very narrow area to display text that affects readability. 30em is the default. If you are trying to get more columns, you can use a lower width (15em and 10em are used on some pages). I hope that clarifies. If not, feel free to ask further questions, Rjjiii(talk) 17:21, 14 September 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for the info. TwoScars (talk) 18:50, 14 September 2023 (UTC)

Rollback granted

Hi Rjjiii. After reviewing your request, I have enabled rollback on your account. Please keep the following things in mind while using rollback:

  • Being granted rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle. It just adds a [Rollback] button next to a page's latest live revision - that's all. It does not grant you any additional "status" on Wikipedia, nor does it change how Wikipedia policies apply to you.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear and unambiguous cases of vandalism only. Never use rollback to revert good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war, and it should never be used in a content-related dispute to restore the page to your preferred revision. If rollback is abused or used for this purpose or any other inappropriate purpose, the rights will be revoked.
  • Use common sense. If you're not sure about something, ask!

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into trouble or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Anarchyte (talk) 04:45, 18 September 2023 (UTC)

This user right gives you access to some of Wikipedia's most important templates and modules; it is critical that you edit them wisely and that you only make edits that are backed up by consensus. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password.

If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time.

If you were granted the permission on a temporary basis you will need to re-apply for the permission a few days before it expires including in your request a permalink to the discussion where it was granted and a {{ping}} for the administrator who granted the permission. You can find the permalink in your rights log.

ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:53, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

Zoonosis

I hear your concerns at AE. I can't respond further there because of word limits. Lab leak and zoonotic theories are not equally likely. "Unknown" is the language of several sources and is not principally about lab leaks - but rather uncertain aspects of timing, intermediate host, etc. Jps and I are having a more fruitful exchange than before along these lines on the article talk page, which I invite you to join too. Sennalen (talk) 04:57, 1 December 2023 (UTC)

I would not describe our exchange as "fruitful". The best I can say is that you acknowledge that others have seen your advocacy as being to create a WP:POVFORK. But there does not seem to be any attempt to address those concerns other than to insist that this is not what you are doing. I have nearly given up. jps (talk) 20:46, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
@ජපස: I think we have both gained some understanding of each others' priorities and motivations, even if we haven't reached total agreement. I just started a new thread on the article talk about how we could address it. Sennalen (talk) 03:54, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for the explanation. I am surely below the word limit, and will link this discussion from AE if you like. I'll decline on the invitation though; COVID seems like a very easy topic to burn out in. Take care, Rjjiii (talk) 06:43, 7 December 2023 (UTC)

Rjjiii, I asked you an either/or question at the nomination, and your "no" response is ambiguous—I can't tell whether that means FuzzyMagma didn't address the issues (or left at least some unaddressed), or if there are no problems remaining to be dealt with. Can you please clarify? Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 06:33, 2 December 2023 (UTC)

@BlueMoonset: no, his changes[1] did not address all of the concerns raised at Wikipedia_talk:Did_you_know#coda. Those changes address 1 of the 3 passages that I noted and they did not address the passages that dying noted under Wikipedia_talk:Did_you_know#wad_el-mahi. Rjjiii (talk) 06:38, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
Thank you, Rjjiii. I appreciate the clarification. I've marked the nomination for closure due to the ongoing issues with the article. BlueMoonset (talk) 07:25, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
You're welcome BlueMoonset; I realize that my initial response was spare enough to be confusing. I was hesitant to comment much about the situation while the nominator had several ongoing disputes. I think that declining the DYK was the right choice and am hopeful (especially after their recent apology/explanation) that the nominator can eventually resolve the issues and maybe bring the article back to DYK as a GA. Thanks for reaching out, Rjjiii (talk) 06:39, 7 December 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for posting all those history books :)

That's some really good reading material, much appreciated :) Allowed for the nuking of one "history.com" reference (which I gather is not considered an RS anymore, though I might be wrong on that). -- SashiRolls 🌿 · 🍥 22:04, 9 December 2023 (UTC)

And thank you for improving the sourcing and patience with me, Rjjiii (ii) (talk) 03:46, 10 December 2023 (UTC)
