French Connection

Hi Robbi, thank you for helping with the article. I was an early student and friend also (which makes it harder to edit and be neutral when you have a personal involvement). Regarding WP policies, try to always sign your name with 4 tildes ~~~~ at the end of a message in a talk page, so everyone will know who it's from and will be able to respond etc. Regarding Sky Acres, sure you can put in anything that improves the article in your opinion. Now I don't understand the tildes, and don't see them in your post above. What am I missing? Again, I was so happy to see your article. I doubt that you know me, though I do get to POU every now and then. Well, I guess I beat you setting up the article, but you are welcome to improve it. It's missing all their early years in France and the U.S., and overall is very skimpy at this point. The tildes expand after you save (or even preview) the page. Make sure you use 4 of them. Crum, Thanks. I'll try to eventually put together more on their early US history. I met them at KPOU in the early 70s when they were still in Orange County. Robbi, maybe you are implying that a WP article should be created for Auguste and his CAP creations? That's not a bad idea, although I just searched the French WP and could not find him there. In one of the sites you provide above it says he and his company were unappreciated and unsupported in France, and "had to fight each step of the way". If there is no French WP article, maybe that's related? If I were to do this myself, I would have to do some serious brushup on my dusty French ;^) Crum375 13:06, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

Scaringly, our 'private chat' here is for all to see. If you Google "Auguste Mudry", for instance, and look for English results only, this here page comes up as number 13 on the main search list. Robbi, any chance we can get a nice photo of Montaine and Daniel to accompany the article? Ideally it should be released to the public domain, then WP can use it with no problems. If it's a more restrictive license it would be harder to keep it. If you have such a photo or are aware of a way to get one, please let me know and we can discuss it. Still waiting for an answer. But I see at least 3 of the links on my tribute site are using the same photo of the pair (the one with Daniel's left hand on Montaine's left shoulder. It looks to me like it's in the public domain. Robbi 13:22, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Unfortunately WP is very sensitive in its licensing requirements, so we would need some confirmation of public domain status. I picked the current image and justified it as promotional material, but ideally we need a real release into the public domain by the copyright owner. So either a clear publicity photo from a sales brochure or equivalent, or a certified public domain version. Thanks, Crum375 14:17, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

EAA Photo just gave me permission to pull their copy. They don't know where they received it from, possibly French Connection's Mudry Aviation, now defunct. Ah-ha, wait...Sales Brochure...I loooked at 3 of their previous brochures and found 2 of my photos, which we certainly can use. What should I do? I can add both of them to the article and you can do what you think is right, including what kind of public domain statement needs to be posted. Robbi 18:32, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

P.S. It just occurred to me: If you're worried about the current 'mirror' pic, we can replace it with my photo from the top of my tribute page instead, with or without the inset. Include the inset and it might also eliminate the need for a second picture. Robbi 20:09, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

I don't mind having extra pictures, the more the merrier as far as I'm concerned, as long as they are nice, relevant and with the public domain copyright. The easiest way to do it is for you to upload them through the 'Upload file' link on the left side of the page, then if you are the creator and copyright owner you can declare so and release it into the public domain. If you need any help there let me know. Once it's uploaded, let me know also, and I can attach it to the article. I am not concerned about the existing picture since its license seems OK for now, and I prefer to have Daniel and Montaine separately (not necessarily from each other). Use: 'PD-self' "I am the copyright holder and I release this into the public domain" then email to permissions@wikimedia.org and send a link to the image and your release to that e-mail address.
