Pablo Garcia

Hi there. As has been established, there are numerous people with this name, so please stop moving the musician's article back to the Pablo García page. Please read Wikipedia's policy on naming conventions. Many thanks. SteveO (talk) 03:45, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Crush 'em

Please refrain from introducing inappropriate pages, such as Crush 'em, to Wikipedia. Doing so is not in accordance with our policies. For more information about creating articles, you may want to read Your first article. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. It was found to be not notable at an AfD debate- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mary Jane (Megadeth song). Please do not recreate the article unless you have reliable sources showing that it meets our notability guidelines for songs; and no, being a Megadeth song does not automatically make it notable. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? J Milburn (talk) 09:50, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Metal Observer

Hey there. I've reverted your changes to the Metal Observer article. Here's the explanation.

  • The article was deleted in the past. The assertion of notability should be placed in the lead section to help ensure that this does not happen again.
  • As far as I know, Alexander Melzer has no notability outside of running The Metal Observer so an article on him for wikipedia is highly unlikely. Hence, there's no need to wikilink his name or even mention it in the lead section.
  • "Every kind of rock and metal" falls under peacock terms and is also inaccurate. The magazine does not cover indie rock, punk rock, folk rock and a multitude of other rock genres. It specialises in heavy metal music and that's it. There is also no reason to remove the word heavy from metal either.
  • There is no significance to any of the dates mentioned in the article and hence, no reason to wikilink any of them per the guideline on wikipedia.
  • Your edit has screwed up the references by removing a couple of citations and creating an unnecessary duplication of another one. You also provided the wrong citation to the information regarding the site's cooperation with other magazines. I see no reason either to remove the citation templates.
  • Your edit has also resulted in a duplication of the statement regarding where the contributors are from.
  • The magazine publishes in both the German and English languages and I am perplexed as to why you would remove mention of this. Another effect that this edit of yours has had is to remove the context from the statement "the magazine continues to publish in both languages." Readers are not going to know what both languages mean if you remove mention of the German language from the article.

I hope you understand now why I've removed the changes you made and I hope you would refrain from changing them back again. Thank you. --Bardin (talk) 03:03, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Uploading images from Flickr

Hi. I'm going to give you a brief tutorial on how to add images from Flickr. I'm doing it on your talk page so that you can have it as a reference until you get used to the process.

  1. Start an account at Wikimedia Commons. You can do that by clicking here.
  2. Go to Flickr and do a search for the subject you want. In this case you would search "WarCry" and you should get this list of results.
  3. Now, this list includes both free and copyrighted images, so you need to narrow it down to just Creative Commons-licensed ones. To do this, click "advanced search" next to the search bar. You should get this page. Scroll down to near the bottom and click the option "only search within Creative Commons-licensed content", then click "search". You should now have this list of results which I gave you earlier.
  4. Click on an image that you like. Now, Wikimedia Commons only accepts certain kinds of licenses, so you need to check how the image is licensed. The licenses are listed under "additional information" on the image pages. For example, this picture is licensed as "CC-BY-NC-SA" with "some rights reserved". Taking a look at Wikimedia Commons' Flickr upload guide we see that this is not OK. Commons only accepts images that are licensed as either "CC-BY" or "CC-BY-SA".
  • Hmm, we seem to have a problem here. It looks like the only Creative Commons-licensed photos of WarCry on Flickr are by this guy, and he only licenses them as CC-BY-NC-SA which we aren't allowed to use. Perhaps you could email him at his address listed there and ask him to change a few of his photos to CC-BY or CC-BY-SA so they can be used on Wikipedia. I've seen this done before, and sometimes people are happy to do it because it means that many people will be getting to see their photos.
  1. Just so I can finish explaining the steps, let's pretend we did find a suitably licensed image like this one which is CC-BY. You want the original size, so click on "all sizes". You want the "large" size. Now download it or right-click and "save as" to your computer.
  2. Now you need to log in to your account at Commons and go to the upload form. I recommend doing this in a separate window or tab so you don't lose track of the Flickr page, as you'll need it in a second. Click on "from Flickr" to get the proper page (this one). Click "browse" and find the file on your computer. To avoid filling out the rest of the complicated upload form, I recommend using the flinfo tool. All you have to do is enter the ID# of the image, which is the series of numbers towards the end of the url on its page at Flickr (353318483 in the case of our example image). Enter that number in the flinfo tool and it spits out all the info you need. Just take that info and paste it into the "Description" field of the upload form. Then click "upload file".
  3. Now the image is on Commons! To use it on Wikipedia, just use the name of the file in the article as you would with any other image that was uploaded to Wikipedia itself. Wikipedia will automatically recognize that the image is from Commons and will create the appropriate image page.
  • Note that if you upload an image to Commons from Flickr that isn't licensed as CC-BY or CC-BY-SA, the FlickreviewR bot will catch it and it will be automatically deleted. So don't bother trying to use any of the WarCry images that are licensed CC-BY-NC-SA or any of the other unacceptable licenses. I recommend emailing the guy who took the photos to see if he'll change any of the licenses so they can be used here on Wikipedia, then following the steps above to upload them. Another alternative is to take a photo of the band yourself, say during a concert, and upload it to Commons under a free license. --IllaZilla (talk) 22:24, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Re: the photographer's email address. It looks like the guy who took the photo you found doesn't have his email address listed on his flickr profile. That photo is labeled as copyrighted with all rights reserved, so I doubt the photographer's going to want to change that to a free license. When I said you should email the photographer, I meant this other guy who seems to have lots of photos of WarCry that are licensed CC-BY-NC-SA. He might be a bit more open to changing 1 or 2 of them to CC-BY or CC-BY-SA. His email address is listed here under "contact" (I don't want to type it here as he might not appreciate that). --IllaZilla (talk) 18:01, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cut-and-paste moves

Hi Rockk3r. I see that this has been mentioned to you before: Please do not make cut-and-paste moves, as you did with Pablo García Fernández‎ and Pablo García‎. When you do that, it splits the pages' histories. That leads to the legal problem of the contributors' edits not being correctly attributed, attribution which is required under the GFDL license. Please, if you wish to move a page to a new title, follow the instructions at Help:Moving a page, or list the page at Wikipedia:Requested moves. Thanks. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 15:21, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Again. Please do not make cut-and-paste moves as you did, this time, with Pablo García Fernández and Pablo García‎. You made it look as if you were the only contributor to the article, which was not the case. Once again, an administrator had to come to merge the history split that you made. Please ask questions before you make any more attempts to rename pages. Thanks. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 02:46, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WarCry discography

Why every time you google "WarCry discography" it brings you to the page "WarCry Discography" redirecting to WarCry discography????? Please talk to me on my talk page. Thanks -- Rockk3r Spit it Out! 22:54, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure why that is the case. Google searches and caches are sometimes a bit strange, but the redirect we have fixes the problem and directs users to the correct page. It's probably a Google-related issue, not a Wikipedia-related problem. If we delete the redirect, users will end up not finding anything at all, which is a bad thing. It's best just to leave the redirect in place, and know that the article itself has the correct capitalization. Horologium (talk) 00:09, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Copy-and-paste moves

I have fixed your copy-n-paste move of War Cry (newspaper) to The War Cry. You have been previously notified about this three before. Please read Help:Moving a page to see how to perform a move. If you cannot make a move on your own (such as this case where the target already exists), then you need to use Wikipedia:Requested moves. If you have any questions or problems, feel free to ask. However, you cannot continue to violate the GFDL copyright requirements. If do so, you will be blocked. Consider this your final warning. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 04:14, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Demo 1994

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Demo 1994, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Crufty section headers

Some articles use them, some don't. And it doesn't matter if other pages use them. For the Iron Maiden page the topic was discussed and the consensus was to leave the album title sub-secions out. Iron Maiden used to be a Featured Article on Wikipedia but it lost it's title. During the discussions about how to get the FA title back it was decided to cut the unrequired sub-sub-sections. Do ot go against consensus and ruin the articles chances of regaining its featured status. Libs (talk) 16:11, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The best way to start would be to read the previous discussions about what was good and what was bad. Ask for a peer review as well. The Iron Maiden page is already over the recommended article size for Wikipedia. The key to making a good article isn't the amount of content. It's the quality of the content, the writing style and the reliable aources. The Internet is the last place to go looking for references. Books are much better. Rather than chop up the page and try to increase it. The better tactic would be to cut out all the cruft and find really good references for whatever quality content is left over. Orphaned non-free media (Image:WarCry - WarCry (2002).jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:WarCry - WarCry (2002).jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:27, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Don't mess around with Featured Articles

Stop messing around with articles that have achieved FA status. FA means they were pretty much perfect and don't need to be screwed up too much other than adding in any newer news items that may of occured after the article was voted to an FA. If you doink around with them too much they will end up being re-judged and will likely lose their FA star. A lot of dedicated editors worked hard to get that article to where it is. It doesn't need you bringing it down and causing a re-vote. Libs (talk) 16:46, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you create the FragKrag sockpuppet??? 11:02, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Why did you violate WP:NPA and WP:CIVIL on my talk page archive? Ignoring WP:SOCK is one thing. But to ignore both of those is not the Wikipedia way. And will get you blocked for a long period of time. You do not have a history of these sorts of serious violations. You used to be very cordial with me back when I edited under the 156.34 IP range. You even offered to give me the entire WarCry discography. Does this offer of their discography not still stand? Perhaps you had drank a beer before editing my talk page. Being drunk and editing Wikipedia don't mix. Libs (talk) 13:36, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

re: Discog

Is the torrent link easy to find? Or a e2dk link from the mule/donkey network. I am curious to hear it. It should be easy enough to find the torrent if they are fairly well known. Which albums are particularly noteworthy? I will go after those first. Libs 16:13, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the offer. But last night I found a zip file on eMule that had all their albums ripped at 224kbs. Which is pretty decent. I haven't had time to listen to it yet, but I will. I don't mind Spanish vocals. I have been a hired-hand stage guitarist for many local artists, many of them were French. If the music is truly good... it doesn't matter what language its in. I have the IP link as historical trivia. Don't bother posting there anymore. I only use this Wiki libs account now. Have a nice day. Libs 13:18, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, I'll try and leave some comments on the talk page within 24 hours... —Giggy 04:57, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Might take me a bit longer but I'll try to get to it asap. —Giggy 02:11, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
