Craven Fault[edit]

I don't know how to find, hence to delete, "dated prod" on an article. The stub for "Craven Faults" I created had as its inspiration Darwin's emphasis on it in *Origin of Species*, noted in this important Darwin year. I quote this in the stub. I initially wrote a short piece, based on National Park printed material, while I was in the area. A local geologist took exception to some of the printed material, so I cut it back to bare minimum. It seems that this person has not seen fit to fill it out properly. So, if you'd be so kind as to take the kabosh off the article for a week or so, I'll contact this person (Langcliffe) and see whether s/he wants to fill it out. If not, I guess it goes. Thanks, Alethe (talk) 14:05, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Another editor has already removed the PROD tag, and on reflection, I think as a notable geological feature, it could stay. I have also managed to find rough northing and easting to define its endpoints. Some amplification from geophysical sources would be helpful, however. September 2009[edit]

Please remember to assume good faith when dealing with other editors, which you did not do on Talk:Jeremy Brett. In one edit, you deleted a comment by 92.8.50.237 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) without asking a permission from that person. Please consider reading the guidelines in WP:TPOC. Thank you --Gh87 (talk) 03:41, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Doctor Robert (again)[edit]

Quite some time ago you blocked User:Virtualizer (talk) indefinitely for loads of disruptive edits in the article about Doctor Robert. Remember the guy? Well, he's back, now with a different user name: User:Robert van der Velden. The user page contains the same nonsense found on his Dutch (now removed) user page and articles-about-himself...

I know that on Dutch Wikipedia this means the second account will be blocked permanently as well (because creating a new account to continue with the same behaviour is not allowed). Is it the same here?

Kind regards, Erik1980 (talk) 21:11, 17 September 2009 (UTC) (on of the admins on nl: trying to keep this guy's theories from Wikipedia :p)[reply]

If he's evading his block as User:Virtualizer, I'll block him for block evasion here too. Simples! Rodhullandemu 21:15, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I'll let you know if he surfaces again elsewhere! Erik1980 (talk) 21:24, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My "speedy" tag at User:Virtualizer does not appear to be noticed by any admin so far, so I thought I'd try here on your talk page... Don't worry, I'll only bother you here about this guy ;) Kind regards, Erik1980 (talk) 18:15, 19 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm. Wasn't sure whether we can do this, but I think it falls within CSD G3 - vandalism, hoax. It's gone, anyhow. Rodhullandemu 18:33, 19 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of PROD from Golden Triangle (Cheshire)[edit]

Hello Rodhullandemu, this is an automated message from SDPatrolBot to inform you the PROD template you added to Golden Triangle (Cheshire) has been removed. It was removed by Colonel Warden with the following edit summary '(+ citation -tag &c)'. Please consider discussing your concerns with Colonel Warden before pursuing deletion further yourself. If you still think the article should be deleted after communicating with the 'dePRODer,' you may want to send the article to AfD for community discussion. At "Mathematical,Juridical,Political,Financial Help" (petitiononline dot com) it mentions that Vasiliu Lucilius "suffer from 1980 by paranoid schizofrenia". John Nash, who inspired the film A Beautiful Mind, also had paranoid schizophrenia, but also had mathematical talent and did not need to have his theories peer reviewed by online petitions.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 07:20, 23 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. As a (distant) relative of John Forbes Nash, we have a lot in common, but approval of mathematical innovation normally proceeds by peer-review, rather than a popular vote. Rodhullandemu 00:21, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re your PROD citing a copyvio. The article was created on 11 August 2007. The website linked to in the PROD template claims a copyright date of August 2009 (Bottom of page: © August 2009 All exclusive content on this web site (including photographs) is copyright and may not be published in any media or reproduced on any other web page without express written permission. This will not be unreasonably withheld as long as you ask FIRST!). If there is a copyvio, it's not the Wikipedia article. I note that no sources are cited. I have a copy of Oppitz's book Sussex Railways Remembered and will expand the article tomorrow as I'm shortly heading up to bed. Mjroots (talk) 21:01, 23 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Article completely rewritten and referenced. Mjroots (talk) 09:31, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Could you have a look at the present article. Whilst previous versions were far from perfect, we now seem to have a PR/promotional piece (possibly even copyright violation) that lacks any sources. As I created the article (albeit in January 2006), I would not like to be simply appearing to revert this to my 'original'. Many thanks,

Derek R Bullamore (talk) 00:16, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A quick look tells me that it requires better sourcing, some copy-editing, and the contributor "Su Elise Nash" may have a conflict of interest. I think notability is just over the barrier, but it needs some work, and a {{NPOV}} or {{advert}} may be indicated. Late here, but I'll take a look at it tomorrow. Cheers. This is always going to be a tricky task, covering as it does so many variations. Without going into the details, I'd say on a initial overview, the colours per genre section tend to swamp the content, and the template could benefit from better structuring. Also, AFAICS the article tends to concentrate on UK/US releases, although I have to say I am currently short of ideas of how global releases could be adequately covered. Rodhullandemu 23:55, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

For a while now, I have been watching this article to make sure that nobody adds Michael Jackson. However, User:Mohummy has insisted on adding sections titled "Convicted terrorists" or "Convicted of crimes". As I have made clear at Talk:List of American Muslims, this looks like WP:COATRACK. Articles like this are often poorly sourced and prone to this sort of subtle (and not so subtle) POV pushing. Mohummy seems to have a bee in his bonnet about the Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons controversy, and to be using List of American Muslims as a POV fork.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 07:04, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Quo[edit]

Rod: Please can you do sopmething about the Status Quo page. Someone who clearly doesn't show Wikipedia the respect it deserves has added a raft of ridiculous information to the page.

Please can you do something about it. 79.64.233.155 (talk) 20:04, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Could you be more specific? But if you disagree with the edits, you can revert them and explain why in your edit summary. The only bit I can see out of place is the Blackpool Lights part. Rodhullandemu 20:09, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have just noticed that the page seems to be continuously vandalised with derogatory comments regarding the quo. Who is doing this????!!! It hurts me so much to see those genuine people (the quo) who contributed so much joy and happiness to the world insulted in that way. The blackpool lights edit has been there for a long time now and is clearly meant to be an insult.79.64.233.155 (talk) 20:17, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I keep the article watchlisted, and if vandalism got to be serious enough, I would protect it for a while. I don't see that happening to warrant that recently. As for the Blackpool Lights, feel free to move it to a more logical place and rewrite it more neutrally. Rodhullandemu 20:19, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nigella Lawson[edit]

This is a horrible picture of Nigella Lawson. It is not at all representative of her beauty. In fact, the photo is so awful that it is simply mean spirited. Surely the Wikipedians can come up with something better than this.

See WP:IDONTLIKEIT. Rodhullandemu 21:04, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Does Nigella have any good recipes for Emu, I wonder. Or for Rod Hull as long as I'm asking... Inquiring (and hungry) minds need to know! Ravishingly, Hamster Sandwich (talk) 23:55, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
My own recipe[1] for Emu is: take a pot and fill it with water; put a rock in it, heat, and add the emu. When the rock is soft, the emu will be edible. Rodhullandemu 00:08, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  1. ^ ruthlessly plagiarised
In thirty years of professional cooking, I have often said, "If it swims or scuttles, or flies, or runs around on four feet, I can cook it." I realize that Emu do not fall into any of those catagories. I'm pretty sure it would make a nice satay, though... Cheers! Hamster Sandwich (talk) 00:13, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think most Duck recipes could be adapted for Emu, but with more subtle sauces, since emu is, I believe, pretty gamey. It needs to be well-hung, like most poultry, but I will resist the obvious comparison between "poultry" and "cock". However, I still prefer game birds. Fnarr, fnarr! :) You shouldn't find many without coords in Worcestershire, I emptied that a few months ago (though a few will have cropped up since then), I hope to have a go at cracking Warwickshire when I get back into the full swing of editing. Jeni (talk) 00:01, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have largely concentrated on counties I know well, because personal knowledge makes sorting out the vague references easier. The major problem I've had is sourcing sources and outflows of minor rivers- an email to the Environment Agency a week ago resulted in a less than helpful response, so I've had to do some research to geolocate to more general areas than I would prefer. However, the result is easily better than we had before, and opens up improvements to those who think these things important (I failed geography 'O' Level, although I am much more up with it nowadays- likewise history). But at least those who come to our articles at least now have a handle from which to start. That's enough for now, unless someone is prepared to pay me a reasonable fee for taking the appropriate steps to ultimate correctness; however, until that happens, I'm prepared to supply adequacy. Another editor making accusations against me[edit]

Hi, Rodhullandemu. I'm sorry to trouble you, but I am having problems with another editor. As you know, it has been common practice at Recent deaths to allow redlinks to remain for one month, after which time they are deleted. I admit to implementing that procedure from time to time, as I understood it was a consensus among contributors to Recent deaths. An editor who is new to those pages, User:Aardvarkzz, is now accusing me of "destructive edits" and expecting me to revert edits from the last three years! You can see the exchange of comments at User talk:WWGB#Chronological Deaths Deletions. I am quite concerned at this situation, especially his intent to "take up the matter with Wikipedia administration". My edits to Wikipedia have always been made in good faith, and I would not like to have my reputation affected by such accusations. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks and best wishes, WWGB (talk) 07:40, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This editor seems unduly confrontational- which may be a result of not having English as a first language- but a unilateral overturning of consensus, and putting you "on the rack", as it were, is unacceptable. Where there is no policy, common-sense should prevail; it is always open to editors to propose a new consensus, and this is what he should be doing on Talk:Deaths in 2009. I will invite him to start a discussion there. As for taking the matter to WP:AN, my feeling is that it would be regarded as a content dispute not requiring admin intervention. Rodhullandemu 16:51, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I had this problem with one of the other two accounts (possibly Mdcollins (AWB), but no-one could solve it. Now on a new computer (Vista 64bit), so trying to use AWB for the first time on this machine. It seems to run ok, but just won't accept the login (and keeps saying 'You are not logged in' even though it has just logged in for me! Any ideas? Is it the brackets? Cheers! —MDCollins (talk) 17:13, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's not the brackets because other usernames contain them; however, other users have had similar problems, mostly connected with software versions and connected to recent changes in the Mediawiki interface. You might want to take a look at WT:AWB or ask there, since I'm not a technical expert on AWB. Best of luck. Rodhullandemu 17:18, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If he gets out of hand on the personal attacks, I'll block, as he has a history of edit-warring; meanwhile, I'd counsel a dignified rest, per WP:DISENGAGE- that leaves him without a target. The merits of the article can be dealt with tomorrow. Rodhullandemu 00:11, 8 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

<outdent: I've advised him in exactly the same terms as I advised you- I didn't realise you had also been blocked for edit-warring, as recently as yesterday. That does not excuse his attacks, however, but I do think both of you should find some other, different articles to edit for a while. If you've ever seen a chunk of potassium thrown into a bowl of water, you'll understand what I'm seeing here, but I do not have the time or inclination to mediate between the two of you, because there are other processes here for that, and I do have work to do. Edit war[edit]

Hi Rod I was wondering can you take a look at this page Records and achievements of Michael Jackson and this user 208.120.7.152 who I believe is not in the best interest of the article. He/She takes out info he/she doesnt like and justify it by saying its fancruft. At one point in the articles history the user after editing the page put there reason as hee he! on like august 24, 2009. I also say he's talk page and it seems like the user is causing a stir on other pages. Can you come and help solve this problem please? A Star Is Here (talk) 21:53, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like there is a discussion on that talk page, and that's where it belongs. I will take a look at his other contribs when I have time. Rodhullandemu 22:22, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Should this article be moved from J.J. Barrie to J. J. Barrie - rather like B. B. King et al ? Or, is it not worth worrying about. I am not absolutely certain on Wikipedia protocol on these matters, and do not wish to cause more trouble than it is really worth. Thanks,

Derek R Bullamore (talk) 22:30, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think as long as the article is locatable minor details don't matter- in the Guinness Book of British Hit Singles he is "J.J. Barrie"; strangely enough, Google returns exactly the same results whether the space is there or not, so I doubt it's an issue. A redirect is cheap, however, so no problem with creating one for completeness' sake. As for naming conventions, I don't think we have one beyond WP:COMMONNAME, which doesn't mention differences of punctuation. Rodhullandemu 22:45, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, he has his point of view, but I'm not sure it's a debate worth having. And whereas I'm sure he has a mother, whether he has a father must be open to debate. Fnarr, fnarr! Rodhullandemu 00:02, 10 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rex Makin edit[edit]

You're quite right about my edit. I ought to have uploaded the image I have of his birth certificate. I will now learn how to do so and make it right. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nachum Y (talkcontribs) 14:21, 10 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You have deleted my page Exeter Hill for some reason. Why is it up to you to decide if Hills are worthy of inclusion on Wikipedia? There is even a group 'Hills of Devon' which this was listed in, are you deleting all of them? Perhaps you can delete all the Hills on Wikipedia? ````

I have not deleted it; I proposed it for deletion, for reasons you have seen. Personally, I doubt that every geographical feature is worthy of inclusion here. Please feel free to establish its notability or contact the Admin who deleted it. Thanks. Rodhullandemu 20:36, 10 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Advice on Dhanak article[edit]

I added a proposed deletion template to this article but I'd like some advice about what to do now, and I thought I'd come to you as you're an administrator. I came across this article and in my eyes it is incomprehensible and appears to be made up or at the very least not notable (the article is completely unreferenced). An IP address which appears to be from the author of the article then left a message on the talk page (Talk:Dhanak) which you can (try to) read, persuading me not to delete the article and saying that they will provide references from "Indian historical books". I think its also important to point out that this user was warned in February for creating these sorts of articles (marked for Speedy Deletion under G1). I'm assuming there is no real substance in this article and therefore it should be deleted, but how would you go about dealing with the author who has received a last warning for exactly this. Jhbuk (talk) 19:59, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'd WP:AGF since it's entirely possible that the only sources are in Punjabi or some other language and do not appear in Google- there is an assertion of notability, of sorts, so I've declined your speedy since Hoax and incomprehensible (other than utter gibberish) aren't speedy reasons. However, I've applied a WP:PROD and made some suggestions on the Talk page- that at least allows five days to get it into shape. Hope that's ok with you. Rodhullandemu 20:14, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Shego (TV series)[edit]

If you can't find a single hit outside Google, that's probably a big red flag. It also fails the common sense test: a TV series created by a voice actor? About a secondary character from a series that's been canceled for years? Ten Pound Hammer, his otters and a clue-bat • (Many ottersOne batOne hammer) 16:25, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

After reading your edit history, and particularly for your work at Unhalfbricking, I am very pleased to award you this (ahem) prestigious... umm... award. You rock! Keep up the good work! Best regards, Hamster Sandwich (talk) 00:35, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (File:ArsNovaAlbum.jpg)[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:ArsNovaAlbum.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Removal of PROD from Prince Regent Theatre[edit]

Hello Rodhullandemu, this is an automated message from SDPatrolBot to inform you the PROD template you added to Prince Regent Theatre has been removed. It was removed by Colonel Warden with the following edit summary '(+ citations -tag &c.)'. Please consider discussing your concerns with Colonel Warden before pursuing deletion further yourself. If you still think the article should be deleted after communicating with the 'dePRODer,' you may want to send the article to AfD for community discussion. I added a tag to this article re notability. I am an inclusionist at heart, but I think this case is pushing it a bit - would appreciate a second opinion though. Cheers,

The closest they appear to come to meeting WP:BAND is being a notable representative of a local scene or style- and even that is unsupported by third-party sources; in other words, they are just another MySpace band, and you were right to tag it. Rodhullandemu 13:02, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wind and Wuthering[edit]

I can see you are as exacerbated as I am. As an admin, you would be able to take the appropriate response more effectively. What annoys me on a personal and non-cite level is that I remember going to WH Smiths in Watford to buy the album before heading to a New Years party in 1976 :) MrMarmite (talk) 23:52, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is annoying, but I cannot take any admin action since I am involved in the content dispute. You are lucky to be able to remember that detail now, however; I did buy the album at the time, but I don't remember the circumstances beyond that I had just bought a new hi-fi system and was living upstairs as the lower floor was being refurbished, and it was the first album to test the flooring. Cheers. Rodhullandemu 23:58, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reporting as vandalism[edit]

Hello, perhaps novice to the site and unaware of all rules. I wasn't sure as to how my submission / addition to the Bertie Ahern page changed and hence did it again. I have now learned. I am disappointed to think that you have assumed that this was done under the heading of vandalism which is not the intention. All content of the changes made are based on recorded interview with Mr. Ahern in the last week. Perhaps you might be good enough to advise as to where you considered the writing worng or incorrect and I might incorporate into changes. Under no circumstances would I have considered my changes to be of malice and it is all based on fact. It would appreciate it if perhaps you could give ,me some guidance. Thanks. Binse-breithimh-firinne (talk) 17:26, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your edits looked like your own personal opinion, and not neutral. When it comes to biographies, we are required to have reliable sources for anything written here, and poorly-sourced material is subject to removal without question. If a reliable source has made these comments about Ahern, we may report them here, with appropriate weight. Hope that helps. Rodhullandemu 17:30, 20 October 2009 (UTC).[reply]

Thanks for that. I will amend in due course. Would you like to me clear with you or just re-post ?

If you would like to repost, I will see it on my watchlist; then I can check it against your sources. Cheers. Rodhullandemu 18:55, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I see he/she is back again, unless I am very much mistaken. Harry Sinclair; 79.72. etc; Dingdong12, now [12]. Is it not possible to exclude him/her on sight ? The Status Quo discusson page is his/her latest intrusion. Something nice and friendly; wiki cuddly; eco-friendly; plus all-embracing and lovely; such as "why do you not simply fuck off, you are a tiresome irk, whom everyone in the whole wide world abhors". If the global Wiki administrators do not act, then just watch me give him/her a real Yorkshire - call a spade a shovel - type of verbal broadside. Best wishes, although you can probably tell that I have mixed emotions here !

Unable to find a citation for a case you identified[edit]

Hello,

Over at this thread at WP:Law, an editor of List of notable United Kingdom House of Lords cases has asked for help finding a citation for the case Margine v Ministry of Defence which is on that page. I backtracked to this edit showing that you added it to the page. Can you shed some light? Quite frankly, we are having trouble even finding evidence on Google that the case exists! Thanks. Andrew Gradman talk/WP:Hornbook 08:33, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Sorry, ignore this, I apologize, I see [2] it was originally added by an IP address and you just moved it to the proper date range.

wELCOME[edit]

WELCOME!! Hello, RodHullandEmu! I want to personally welcome you on behalf of the Wikipedia community. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you haven't already, you can put yourself in the new user log and the list of users so you can be properly introduced to everyone. Don't forget to be bold, and don't be afraid of hungry Wikipedians...there's a rule about not biting newcomers. Some other good links are the tutorial, how to edit a page, or if you're really stuck, see the help pages. Wikipedia is held up by Five Pillars...I recommend reading about them if you haven't already. Finally, it would be really helpful if you would sign your name on talk pages, so people can get back to you quickly. It's easy to do this by clicking the button (next to the one with the "W" crossed out) one from the end on the left. If that's confusing, or if you have any questions, feel free to drop me a ♪ at my talk page (by clicking the plus sign (+) next to the tab at the top that says "edit this page")...and again, welcome!--

Dongding12 (talk) 14:50, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks but, er I am not a new user. And, I suspect, neither are you; are you here to help build an encyclopedia or to simply put messages on others' Talkpages? Rodhullandemu 14:54, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I see my role as a booster of morale. I think that keeping the spirits high of fellow wikipedians is equally important as editing the encyclopedia itself. I hope my welcome has had the desired effect. Keep up the good work (remember those 5 pillars) and feel free to consult me for any advice.
