Freddie Kissoon[edit]

I nominated your article for deletion because there was no information in your article to indicate that Freddie Kissoon was notable for anything. One of the principal criteria in keeping an article is that its subject is notable in some way. What can you add to this article to demonstrate notability? Denni talk 01:26, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • In your message on my talk page, you have provided three pieces of information that were not in the article as you submitted it. Please understand that Wikipedia's editors are not an expert at everything (though it would sure be nice if they were), and so it is generally up to the writers of the articles to ensure that they have "done their homework" and provided enough information so that it is relatively clear whether a person is notable or not. I appreciate your efforts to promote Guyana - more needs to be done to extend Wikipedia's reach beyond the US, Canada, and Britain. But I hope you will understand that Wikipedia cannot be The Encyclopedia of Everything, and some criteria have to be met in terms of which articles are accepted and which are not. Cheers, Denni talk 01:43, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Guyanese Columnists[edit]

Lucky, I did some quick edits. If it's ok, please consider removing the dispute. If not, I will research more info. and add tomorrow. Good night. ~User:Roopster Posted on User_talk:Lucky_6.9#Guyanese_Columnists

Hello Roopster! I'm not sure how to contact you... I've been adding content to the pages on Guyanese writers (I've added Guyanese women writers) and would be happy to build up some of the other pages in that area, eg Guyanese poets, novelists). But I'm not sure how to do this. Can I just send you the info, and you do it? I am Arunadasi, aka Sharon Maas

Looking good![edit]

Much better. Thanks for cleaning that up! In fact, it's quite good now. Very nice read. Getting kind of late for me as well, so off to catch some Z's. Doing a bit of holiday travel tomorrow.  :) - Lucky 6.9 08:04, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Safe Travels. ... and have a happy thanksgiving holiday! User:Roopster
You betcha. Much consumption of turkey awaits. Ditto my wife's incredible sweet potato casserole. Needless to say, my diet is kaput for the next twenty-four hours. - Lucky 6.9 08:08, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Freddie Kissoon/Stella Ramsaroop[edit]

Nice work on the Kissoon article! You've provided enough background and enough detail that this article would stand up even against a deletion discussion. You've done your homework on the Ramsaroop article too, though I'm not as convinced of her notability. Is there more about her we should know? Has she won any awards or received any other recognition beyond the approval of her readers? I also took a look at Kaieteur News - could you tell us when it was established, a bit about its owners, if it is associated with any other media in Guyana, how frequently it is published, who its competitors are, and any awards or recognition it has received? Keep up the good work! Denni talk 00:37, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I've made a request to the owner and editor for some historical information on the newspaper which I will add soon along with other data I've been gathering. It is the leading daily in Guyana but I cannot find any data to support that statement. - Roopster 00:48, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • Great! Looking forward to seeing what comes up. Re. the Forbes Burnham article: I saw only one sentence as being POV - "As Burnham's policies shifted to the left, his leadership style became increasingly dictatorial." While it may be true, this is fairly much an opinion, easily disputable by his supporters. As far as I can see, everything else is fact. I removed this sentence and the POV tag, and I also removed the cleanup tag, because I see no issue with this article in that department. You should also feel free to add/remove tags as you feel necessary. The only tag which is not fair game for removal is {{subst:afd}}, which is used to tag articles to be placed into the Articles for Deletion debate. Other than that, have at 'er. Don't worry to much about the tag relating to providing sources - this is Wikipedia's big Bee in the Bonnet issue these days. If sources can be provided, that's great, but I wouldn't lose any sleep over it if you can't find them. Denni talk 01:00, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome![edit]

Hi, Roopster! I am also interested in added content on Guyana, as I lived and worked there 1998-2000, and have many happy memories of my time there. I'd like to say "well done" on your work on Forbes Burnham, as it had recently been turned into an extremely POV diatribe - I have experienced just how divisive Burnham and Jagan can be, so I think it's an admirable job you did in getting the article back to a more neutral line (although I'm sure there'll still be those who take offence at anything even approaching criticism!)

Thanks Camillus. Impressive profile. I'll have to one day work on mine. Thanks for the inspiration. I look forward to working together on some Guyanese content. Let me know if you have any ideas. Right now I'm just going through what's there and filling in content or editing. Roopster 19:36, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Forbes Burnham[edit]

I directed you to the wrong page, as the image needed a fair use tag...hopefully I have succeeded in putting an appropriate tag on the image this time, but who knows, as all the images I upload are either ones I have taken myself or are from the U.S. Government. Anyway, the upload page is at [1] and the tag I add was this one: {{Fair use in|Article}} with "Article" being replaced with the title of the article name, namely Forbes Burnham. I generally discourage the use of Fair use since it may end up no longer being allowed on Wiki at some time in the future to protect us from any copywrite violations. Anyhow, all should be well now...and for future uses of Fair Useimages, make sure they comply with our policies and you use the appropriate tags from here.--MONGO 10:50, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Freddie Kissoon 3[edit]

Hi. It looks like the page was deleted on December 10 by 1ne on the grounds that it was a previously deleted and recreated page. Your best course of action is to take the issue to Wikipedia:Deletion review for a hearing. Since this page only was ever speedy deleted, you may have a chance to be heard there. Alternatively, you can add substantially to the article, if that's possible, and try recreating it. One other route, if this is done, is to take it through Articles for Deletion. While this might, at first glance, seem an unproductive route to take, many pages make it through AfD. The best thing about going this way is that many editors see it, and if the consensus is even close to "keep", it gets kept. Good luck, and let me know how it goes. Denni talk 17:16, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - I've taken Freddie Kissoon to deletion review for you. Hopefully, this will come out well. Denni talk 20:26, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The deletion review is going well. You may wish to follow it or participate here: Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2006 December 25. Denni talk 17:06, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Freddie Kissoon AfD[edit]

Hi. Your article has passed deletion review and has been recreated and moved to Articles for Deletion. It seems to be doing well there and I think it has a very good chance of being kept. Please feel free to weigh in at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Freddie Kissoon. Denni talk 02:16, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
