Welcome[edit]

Hello, RuthVancouver, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Yunshui, and as you already know I am your Online Ambassador for the UBC Human Ecology course. My job here is to help you to work within Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, to answer any questions that you have about editing here, and to act as your advocate in the (unlikely) event that you find yourself in a dispute with another user.

You are welcome to contact me at any time by leaving a message on my Wikipedia talkpage or by emailing me. I will usually respond to any messages within 24 hours (though I aim to be faster!), but if you need more immediate help, you can ask questions of experienced editors at The Teahouse or get live help via Wikipedia's IRC channel (connect here).

Enjoy your course! Yunshui  20:35, 14 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Introducing myself[edit]

Hi RuthVancouver. I work with the Wiki Education Foundation, and help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment. If there's anything I can do to help with your assignment (or, for that matter, any other aspect of Wikipedia) please feel free to drop me a note. Ian (Wiki Ed) (talk) 22:34, 12 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

As reviewing administrator, I speedy deleted Sitka Company. It may not have been written for the purpose of being an advertisement, but it is almost indistinguishable from an advertisement. I decided, however, to temporarily restore it, and have instead listed it for proposed deletion with the explanation " quite promotional, but may be fixable. This is an education assignment that was written indistinguishably from an advertisement, presumably after the many promotional articles still in WP" . Sentences such as "ne important way Sitka organization introduces their thoughts of environmental protection and conservation concept is that they relate the theme of sustainability in their fashion and stores. Sustainable wooden furniture is used, from the walls to the shelves; An organic café and local art pieces, influence consumers on the environmental footprint. Sustainable fashion is design to be environmental friendly." are not acceptable in an encycopedia.
I have looked at some other articles from the course, and have applied a NewRelease tag to Protect our Winters. and made some other adjustments to articles.
One of our problems at WP is that there is so much promotional content here, that beginners assume it is what is wanted, and model articles after it. We've therefore become much more strict about such matters. My informal wzy of looking at it is, that if it would do for an organization's web page, it won't do for WP. Yes that is fair, I completely understand your concerns, it does read like an advert. Thanks for restoring the page for the short term. RuthVancouver (talk) 17:46, 19 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent edits[edit]

Information icon Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button ( or ) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 00:13, 30 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
