Hi there

Hi there,

Welcome to Wikipedia! I just saw you created the article Sado (Island). I was wondering if you think the article should be merged with Sado, Niigata, as the city is essentially the island itself (at least as defined administratively). I think we should consolidate these two articles, and any useful info you have on the newly created article could be merged into Sado, Niigata. Please let me know if you have strong opinions on that, before I open a community discussion to discuss the proposed merge. Thanks! --Dps04 (talk) 11:17, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thank you for your suggestion! Sorry for not replying immediately. I was doing another article Sado Island, some tidying up. This one can match with the Chinese link 佐渡岛 so it won't confuse with Sado, Niigate (linked with 佐渡市). Since the island and city have separate pages in Japanese and Chinese, I think it can work in different English pages. But I also agree that there are some overlaps so if the two English articles are to be merged, maybe the Chinese and Japanese also need consolidation? How do you think? Thank you again for mentioning this! -- S1933373TL (talk) 13:12, 14 May (UTC)
Hi and thanks for the reply. I see they have separate articles in Japanese and Chinese so I guess separate articles for the island and the city works fine here as well. However, unless I am missing something Sado Island and [[Sado (Island) are the exact same article. In that case, we only need to create a redirect so that one page links to the other. We do not need two idential articles for Sado Island and Sado (Island). Thanks and happy editing! --Dps04 (talk) 13:04, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, yeah you are right. I create the two articles since I find when I search 'sado island', it takes me to 'Sado, Niigate'. So I first created 'Sado (Island)' to separate the two and then I found that 'Sado Island' works fine as well. I'll ask the administrator to delete the first page. Thanks! -- S1933373TL (talk) 14:31, 14 May (UTC)
No worries, I have handled the situation. I have converted the Sado (Island) article into a redirect (which is kind of a page that links you to the other target page; it looks like this for your reference), so we are essentially back to one article Sado Island now. Please feel free to make further improvements to the page! Cheers --Dps04 (talk) 13:35, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I see. Thanks a lot! -- S1933373TL (talk) 14:37, 14 May (UTC)
