Issues with small categories[edit]

SD0001 Thanks for creating this, but it does not seem to be working. I installed it by adding the specified link to my newly created commons.js file. When I then go to a category page, such as Category:Theorems in discrete geometry, I see the Show SD button, but when I click on it, the button changes to Hide SD, but the category page does not change at all. No SD's are shown and there is no color change. What am I doing wrong?--agr (talk) 17:16, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

ArnoldReinhold Nothing wrong at your end! It was a bug in the script that caused it to fail when the cat had < 50 members.  Fixed now. SD0001 (talk) 17:31, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
SD0001 Wow! Thanks, this is great. Any reason not to spread the word to some others who might be interested? --agr (talk) 18:57, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
ArnoldReinhold I'd left a note at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Short_descriptions#Script_to_show_shortdescs_of_all_pages_in_a_category. If there is any other place where a notfiication would be useful, go ahead and post it! SD0001 (talk)
There might still be a bug. I get some cats which still show no SD when the button is clicked. They seem to all be small cats, but I have only tested a small sample. Now that I have seen the above message I will look more closely at the numbers. Excellent tool anyway. Much kudos. · · · Peter Southwood (talk): 13:41, 31 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
My checks show no SDs for 6 or fewer members in category. For 7 or more, it works fine. Cheers, · · · Peter Southwood (talk): 15:50, 31 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nice catch. Turns out MediaWiki weirdly uses a different HTML structure on category pages with few members.  Fixed now. – SD0001 (talk) 17:20, 31 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wikidata descriptions not found[edit]

I tried this on Category:Latin-script letters, but instead of showing the Wikidata descriptions, which are present, the script says there aren't any short descriptions. 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 17:23, 30 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@1234qwer1234qwer4: Can you re-check? This is what I see for the said category. Seems to working fine on my end. – SD0001 (talk) 17:14, 31 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
This is what I see. Maybe the gadget does not work with User:Equazcion/CatListMainTalkLinks? 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 18:22, 31 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@1234qwer1234qwer4:  Fixed Yes, that was the issue. I've modified the script so that it's compatible with that script, as well as others which modify category listings. – SD0001 (talk) 07:10, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@SD0001: Nice, thanks a lot! 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 09:19, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks![edit]

Very nice little tool! —valereee (talk) 16:57, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Would it be possible to somehow mark the 40-character point in the SDs? The recommendation is to try to be no longer than that, and it would be handy to know that, hey, if you can figure out how to shorten this without losing important info, here's how much we'd like to cut. —valereee (talk) 17:04, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Illustration[edit]

Hi SD0001, would you retake the screen shot (that one is a bit blurry) and upload it locally instead of sending people to ibb.co? — xaosflux Talk 13:08, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Short description "none"[edit]

Would it be possible to distinguish pages that have no short description from those that have short description of none? — HTGS (talk) 01:44, 2 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Fails to find WD description?[edit]

@SD0001 Please check the page Category:Former constellations. The script does not seem to find the Wikidata descriptions ("no shortdesc") for Cancer Minor (constellation), Cerberus (constellation), Felis (constellation) etc. ~~~~

Lightning fast! I was actually wondering whether using the labels was reliable when forking the script, but did not draw the connection here. ~~~~

SD of none may not work with this script when assigned by an infobox[edit]

Please see this discussion. – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:54, 19 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Displaying WikiData short description or "no short description" when there is actually a short description 'none'[edit]

See Category:List-Class_SCUBA_articles. Should display either "none" or ideally, "This page intentionally has no description." Not in red or magenta, possibly some other generally unused colour like brown that will not be confused with any other text colour coding. Cheers, · · · Peter Southwood (talk): 15:48, 27 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Still getting the Wikidata description displayed in magenta in categories when the actual short description template has "none" as unnamed parameter, so the articles have to be manually checked every time. Cheers, · · · Peter Southwood (talk): 09:30, 18 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Can this be fixed? · · · Peter Southwood (talk): 09:33, 18 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think that fixing the problem identified at this discussion would fix this problem as well. – Jonesey95 (talk) 19:12, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion[edit]

To add upon the above discussion, another helpful thing would be, in the case of redirects, to not show in red that the page has no short description, rather specifying that the page is a redirect? (I know that the redirect shows in italics but this would be helpful) Thanks, Urban Versis 32KB(talk / contribs) 02:54, 15 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
