Removal of map

Savonian people

Hey, you applied the article to be featured on the main page as "did you know..". The article is a stub right now, so it can't be featured as dyk. But please expand it, it should be easy since the Finnish article is quite comprehensive. For example, few of my articles that have been on main page include Aimo Lahti, Aero Flight 311. Finland and the 1908 Olympics

Hi there. Just to let you know, the reason there are Russian flags next to the Finnish wrestlers at Wrestling at the 1908 Summer Olympics is that Finland was part of Russia at the time. See Grand Duchy of Finland. The Olympic organizers, under pressure from Russia, required the Finnish athletes to compete under the Russian flag even while fielding a separate team. Finnish league isn't professional

Where's your proof that it is? Both Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Fully professional leagues and Veikkausliiga say it isn't fully professional. Removing the PRODs without a valid reason isn't enough. Spiderone 07:24, 25 September 2009 (UTC)

Deljan Bregasi

Your removal of the PROD here shows a complete lack of understanding of WP:ATHLETE. Yes, Serie A is professional but he hasn't played in the Serie A, he is just a youth player and there is absolutely no guarantee that he will play in future. Also under 17 caps are worthless in fact even under 21 caps don't justify notability. If someone was capped at youth level for American Samoa, for example, they would still fail WP:ATH. Doesn't matter if the player is professional

See WP:ATHLETE. The club or the league must be professional and in the case of Finland neither is professional so your keep votes are invalid unless you can prove either that Finland is professional or that they have played in the main stages of the Champions League or UEFA Cup/Europa League. Finland's league is still professional. I don't need to prove that in every article or comment. Playing in UCL or UEFA Cup has nothing to do with this, and yes, Finnish clubs have played in European competitions. You should stop giving false information. --SM (talk) 13:48, 26 September 2009 (UTC)

The source you provided clearly said that people have to work and do degrees around their football careers because it isn't enough to make a living out of. Simply put, the league isn't fully professional. Spiderone 14:27, 26 September 2009 (UTC)

It means more they have to plan their lifes future - playing in Finnish league does not make majority of players so rich that they don't have to do anything after the end of their playing career, which does not mean that the league is not professional! In 2001 questionary research within league players only 8 percent told they had had other jobs than football. Your Split of Sápmi_(area)

You moved parts of the Sápmi_(area) article into Lapland (region). By doing that I believe you created a parallel article. Please ,see the discussion in Talk:Sápmi_(area)#Requested_move about why the current name was chosen. Also, I don't see a good reason for why the geography should be in a separate article. Lapland is a geographic area and the English name for that area is Lapland. I don't see the reason for "Sapmi" area, I have never seen articles about that kind of "cultural areas" in en-Wikipedia. Much of the Sami people don't live in Lapland and they are only a small minority in Lapland. Couldn't that "Sami cultural region" information be included in the article of Sapmi people? --SM (talk) 09:54, 28 December 2009 (UTC)

There are already articles for Finnish Lapland, Swedish Lapland, etc (see Lapland for a list). Merging Sápmi_(area) and Sámi people is not practical as the latter is already too long. Yes, Wikipedia has separate articles of each country of Europe, but there still is article Europe. Like I said I don't see it reasonable to have an article of that kind of "cultural region", but however if there is, it doesn't mean Wikipedia should not have article of a region Lapland. For example there is entry of Lapland in Encyclopaedia Britannica, and Sápmi is only a Sami language word meaning Lapland. --SM (talk) 23:01, 28 December 2009 (UTC)

I am not sure if I understand you. If you think that Sapmi and Lapland are the same, then "Sapmi (area)" and "Lapland (region)" are parallel articles (and should hence be avoided in Wikipedia). With regards to the name, there has already been a discussion about what the name of the article should be (as linked above). In summary the problem with the Lapland term is that it is confusing and not widely used in Norway and Russia. For example the counties Nordland and Nord-Troendelag in Norway has never been consider as part of Lapland. If you think articles about cultural regions should be deleted there are places where you can propose these for deletion. In conclusion, I will revert the removal of the geography information in Sápmi (area) and encourage you to delete the parallel Lapland (region) article. Labongo (talk) 23:51, 28 December 2009 (UTC)

No, please do not put words in my mouth. They are not parallel articles as long as the other is of "cultural region" and the article Lapland is a normal encyclopaedia entry of a region. In my opinion the best solution is to merge parts of the "Sapmi (area)" to Lapland and Sami people. Sami people and "Sapmi (area)" are highly parallell. --SM (talk) 11:54, 29 December 2009 (UTC)

You are suggesting major changes to the article and should therefore start a thread on the articles talkpage. Note that "Sami People" is the parent article to the Sapmi article and hence it should contain a summary of the content in the Sapmi article. Lapland is an area in Northern Europe like and the Sami people are only a small minority there, so it deserves an article from the neutral point of view, not only as an "daughter article" of the Sami people article. The purpose of the Sapmi article is to describe "the cultural region traditionally inhabited by the Sámi people". I still don't understand the difference between Sapmi (area) and Lapland (region). Perhaps you can list which parts of the Lapland region are, or are not, part of Sapmi as defined by the article? The Sapmi article describes Lapland as "inner parts of Sápmi". The more reasonable way is to put it this way: why Wikipedia needs an separate article of "the cultural region traditionally inhabited by the Sámi people" if it is almost just the same as Lapland? Like I said before the issues especially related to the Sami population are already or could be included to the article Sami people.
