Joby Harold photo[edit]

It's obvious you are not happy with the photo of Joby Harold's article. The reason this photo is being used is because it is under a free license, and an alternative hasn't been found or released as of yet. If you own a better photo of Harold, you may release it via Wikimedia's VRT release generator under an acceptable free free license. Thanks so much for your time. Hi, we have another that we are trying to upload from him at a premiere but it keeps being rejected because of a logo in the background. What's the best way to proceed? Safehouseasst (talk) 17:17, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That's certainly odd. It should still be allowed even with a background logo. I would recommend consulting folks over at the Wikimedia Commons Help Desk. Besides advice on how you should be able to upload, maybe someone there can upload it for you with your consent. You could also ask an individual admin for help. User Túrelio has helped me in the past before with issues on Commons. I hope this helps. JamesTheLaptop (talk) 18:25, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Can we remove the current picture in the meantime? Safehouseasst (talk) 16:51, 16 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
(Sorry for the late reply.) I guess. I would recommend getting help from the folks at Commons putting up your photo as soon as possible. If the article remains picture-less, it definitely won't look as nice. JamesTheLaptop (talk) 00:47, 18 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm the person who found the File:Joby Harold on Sidewalks Entertainment.jpg that was used as the image. I'm also interested in why your image would be being rejected "because of a logo in the background". Is it, by chance, that the logo is more of a watermark, or even a digital on-screen graphic so they think it is evidence that you don't actually own the image? --GRuban (talk) 01:12, 18 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Would it be possible for it to be rejected because I changed the name of the photo to be more descriptive? The background has a logo in it, but I believe Joby took the picture himself (or rather his wife did). This is my first time trying to upload a photo though so I could have somehow clicked the wrong thing? 2603:8000:AE00:A5FE:E1A1:12E4:D4B0:3B43 (talk) 02:36, 18 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Not likely they rejected it just because of the file name. That Joby took the image himself and they haven't been convinced that you're Joby, or an accredited representative of Joby seems more likely. Tell you what, while I'm just another volunteer, I am somewhat experienced at this sort of thing, having uploaded a few images in my time; here is my Commons user page about that: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:GRuban I'm going to send you an email with my email address in it. Would you be so good as to forward me the image you're sending to the Commons VRT and the emails you've exchanged, and I may be able to help? Thanks. --GRuban (talk) 14:43, 18 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@JamesTheLaptop: We got in touch by email. The problem is that the image that Safehouseasst is trying to release looks an awful lot like https://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/news-photo/joby-harold-attends-a-surprise-premiere-of-the-first-two-news-photo/1399494308 which is a Getty Images photo, so I'm guessing that is what the Commons Volunteer Response Team people are unhappy about. I'm going to restore the image we had until they get one; you'd think it would be easy, they work together (Safehouse is Joby Harold's motion picture company), they should be able to just say - "Hey Mr. H, please look into this cell phone and smile" - yet in my experience, it can take months for an organization to actually release an image. --GRuban (talk) 19:21, 18 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You would think for sure! Thanks for laying this issue to rest (at least for now), @GRuban. JamesTheLaptop (talk) 03:04, 19 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
