Clarifications and Proposed Inclusions for Harold Orr Article
Dear Justin,
Thank you for your diligent review of the Harold Orr Wikipedia page. I appreciate the importance of adhering to a Neutral Point of View (NPOV) and ensuring that all information is well-referenced. I have gone through the feedback and I am willing to make necessary amendments to align with Wikipedia’s guidelines. if there are areas that you think should have more references I will attempt to find them ; However, I would like to discuss a few points that might merit reconsideration or inclusion to provide a well-rounded portrayal of Harold Orr’s life and contributions. Heya, thanks for engaging in good faith on this. I'll reply here with some thoughts on the broader guidelines, and perhaps we can move discussion about specific points to the Harold Orr talk page. I'm very happy to help work on this, and we might also ultimately want to seek out some additional perspectives because we might disagree on certain points.
In general, I don't mean to question that much of what has been included in the article is significant in and of itself—to Orr and perhaps to different communities—but really just to what extent, and in what way, it merits inclusion in an encyclopedia entry about the subject. I am familiar with Orr's professional work, and I don't think there's any question that it had significant influence; from what I know, it's a stretch to say that, beyond particular communities, he is known for these other aspects. That doesn't mean that it can't be included, but perhaps that it needs to be dealt with a bit more delicately.
On that note, I think the main issue so far has been the way you phrased certain things. Wikipedia emphasizes neutral language. So, while it may be true that much of Orr's work exemplifies a commitment to community service, unless you are directly quoting a reliable/neutral source stating so, it is best to let the facts speak for themselves (i.e. readers will pick up on that by reading about the things he has done). Does that make sense? You might find it helpful to have a read through the guidelines on Biographies of living persons. Also, on sources, it is important to ensure that they speak to the subject. For instance, you previously included one from Oklahoma Christian University on its accreditation, but the reference didn't actually mention Orr anywhere. This is the kind of thing that can raise questions about just how relevant it is (again, for the purpose of inclusion in an encyclopedia).
If you don't mind, why don't you throw the four points you listed for consideration in to the Harold Orr talk discussion, and we can discuss those there? Thanks again! Other justin (talk) 17:05, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
