If you have read what I put it's perfectly fine to put them up, but only with a proper and reliable source. This is one of the foundations to Wikipedia, without it, I can just put anything just as you can. Source it, and it will be fine. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button located above the edit window.
