By the way...[edit]

If you want to help select my next-ish poster (might finish a couple I have half-done first), here's the list.

  • Any opera by Massenet. Well, almost. Hopefully you aren't a huge fan of his Cleopatre, Amadis, or L'Adorable Bel-Bleu. Everything else, though (unless it's already done)...

In addition:

More operas. A lot more

Best (a selection from the main list I consider particularly artistic)

Wormser

I kind of went through everything that came up on Gallica under "opera affiche". As a prioritisation, I skipped over some of the lesser composers; for example, Hervé has a ton of posters, Massé and Vasseur have a lot more than I listed - but, well, one has to prioritise a bit, aye? The Offenbach is somewhat incomplete, as, frankly, I knew I'd end up doing his stuff anyway, so I was going to leave him out at first, then decided to grab some half-way in. I've tried to limit it to viable FPs, but there might be a few in there that turn out to be horrible scans. Adam Cuerden (talk)Has about 6.7% of all FPs 03:12, 20 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Well there's La Navarraise... Adam Cuerden (talk)Has about 6.7% of all FPs 13:31, 24 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
And Le pardon de Ploërmel. Adam Cuerden (talk)Has about 6.7% of all FPs 23:57, 27 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Adam Cuerden: First off, my apologies for the delayed response: I've been traveling for the past week in the land of sporadic wifi, and have only just found a desktop computer in my hotel. I have it today and tomorrow: Tuesday I return to roaming for a few more days, and I suspect that I'll be essentially unavaiable until Sunday afternoon sometime. (Saturday perhaps, depending on what turns up at the airport.)
Regarding your question: I am, of course, partial to the obscure (the more the better, naturally - how many of those composers listed don't have Wikipedia articles? :-) ) That being said: I'd plump either for something of Bruneau's or for Février's Monna Vanna. Both are fairly interesting transitional composers that were once wildly popular but have dropped off considerably, and I think it might be interesting to focus on their work through that lens. It might even lead to some work on their articles (Février's used to be fairly short, though I haven't looked at it in a long time.)
For Bruneau: do you think there might be posters available for some of his other works? L'attaque du moulin is particularly interesting to me - it made it to the Metropolitan for one season, even. (I've heard some excerpts - I'd be curious to hear the whole thing, but I'm afraid it tends to be rather leaden in retrospect. That being said, I think he had a knack for orchestration, based on what I have heard.)
Slightly off-topic, but not entirely so: do you happen to have a source that might cover some copyright-free images from Georgia? (As in, Republic of, not State of.) That's where I was this past week on a sort of musical goodwill tour with my choir. Absolutely incredible experience; I believe I have your e-mail, and I'll send you a note about it (if not tomorrow then when I get back home) - I think you would get a kick out of what we were doing. We were performing a work of Zakaria Paliashvili's, and I would love to get a FP out of something of his. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 19:27, 30 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

To the first: Yes, but the quality for the poster of L'attaque du moulin is terrible: https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/btv1b90171196/f1.item.r=l'attaque%20du%20moulin%20affiche.zoom - However, Massé, Bruneau, and a few others were ones I was only grabbing if I happened to particularly like the poster, as they came up very frequently. Adam Cuerden (talk)Has about 6.7% of all FPs 23:15, 1 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

There's a lovely image of him that probably wouldn't be much worse to fix than any other, despite more visible damage: : https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/btv1b531188498/f1.item.r=Alfred%20Bruneau.zoom

And some good illustrations of Messador, L'attaque du moulin, and others that aren't posters: https://gallica.bnf.fr/services/engine/search/sru?operation=searchRetrieve&version=1.2&startRecord=0&maximumRecords=50&page=1&query=%28gallica%20adj%20%22Bruneau%22%20and%20gallica%20all%20%22opera%22%29&filter=dc.type%20all%20%22image%22

As for Zakaria, I MIGHT be able to get something. Adam Cuerden (talk)Has about 6.7% of all FPs 23:31, 1 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, besides being excellent images in their own right, the big advantage of the two Février images is they have clear ties to other notable people - Maeterlinck and Sardou, respectively. This gives them slightly more visibility, and can be used to draw people to the opera by putting them on the pages of the works they're adapted from and such. Adam Cuerden (talk)Has about 6.7% of all FPs 23:41, 1 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, if you're wondering, had GIMP crash on me mid-editing Gismonda, losing about 6 hours' work. Needed a break. Adam Cuerden (talk)Has about 6.8% of all FPs 21:06, 10 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Adam Cuerden: Oooooof. It's fear of that sort of thing that has led me to develop a "Ctrl+S" tic which has stood me in good stead at the office... --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 02:15, 11 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Revert vandalism on mobile[edit]

Quick question (simply because your edit is the one I'm trying to revert to): Is there no easy way for me to revert vandalism on mobile anymore? I go back to your edit and it only lets me view source. In the past I would just go back and re-edit the last legit page to revert the intervening vandalism. See Seth Porges. Too bad blatant BLP vandalism lasted that long. :(

A tag has been placed on Category:People from Hajjah Governorate requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Underlinking[edit]

Hi, I have a query. I found Rosemary Pattenden on a clean up listing, as you tagged it as underlinked in March. The article has two links in two sentences, so I am curious whether it is really underlinked. Would it come up on an automatic list of underlinked reports? TSventon (talk) 15:07, 11 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@TSventon: Possibly it might - I'm not sure, as I'm not sure how such lists are generated. Regardless: it was auto-tagged by AWB as part of one of its regular cleanup tools. No skin off my nose if you remove the tag. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 15:10, 11 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, unfortunately AWB seems to tag articles as underlinked if they have three or fewer links even if they are stubs, so if I remove the tag AWB will prompt people to put it back. TSventon (talk) 15:52, 11 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Albums and songs project tagging[edit]

Hi, I know you do a lot of project tagging for articles with red-linked talk pages. I was hoping you could do another run for the albums and songs projects as last did in February (and many times before that, of course). I appreciate it. In the lead paragraph of c y oconnor it says he is an irish engineer... so your removal of the category is intriguing to say the least.... if only some people could be removed from their public roles with the sleight of an wikipedia edit  !

indeed - there was a very strange stage of categories where non diffusing and diffusing seemed to be something that clouded perspective and createdapprehensiveness about what really happens (if only the latin root word might give clues as to what the hell... and so on..) - ta JarrahTree 14:30, 31 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

How d'ye think this article'd do at GA? It's short, but it does seem to be fairly complete. Only thing I didn't cover was an odd hint she may have hosted some sort of one-off production at some point. Adam Cuerden (talk)Has about 6.8% of all FPs 19:29, 8 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Adam Cuerden: I don't spent much time over there, but honestly I'm afraid it'll be shot down for being too short. That's the trouble I've found with a lot of nineteenth-century singers; if they weren't Lablache or Patti, there's a shocking dearth of information online about them.
Let me poke around a bit in a day or so - we have a biography of Massenet somewhere around the house that might provide a bit more info. (Then again, it might not - I find such things more hit-or-miss than I'd like.) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 03:56, 9 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there Ser Amantio!! It's great to meet you ... I've been looking at your edits and you seem like a wonderful person.... And I wonder if you'd be interested in helping me get a wikipedia page approved? I am not very good at them, but here is what I have started. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Zoee&action=history Unfortunately no one wants to help get it citated and appoved and just eep tearing it down without rea reasons. Many thanks, Izla :-)

Americanheart44 (talk) 13:11, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Americanheart44: So...the reason the article is being reverted has nothing to do with the citations. It's because a previous article of that name was deleted in accordance with a vote at WP:AFD. @Americanheart44:: I would take a look at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Zoee (2nd nomination) for starters - that should give you some information as to why the article was previously deleted. Have you ever done yoga? I always thought it was a bit pretentious before but I do it every day now, gives me much more energy. Some of the exercises have a huge impact on your energy and concentration. That can relax you before you go to bed and make it easier to sleep but probably doesn't work for eveybody. I've been browsing a fair amount recently. I think overall we're definitely improving. The sourcing has greatly improved overall from years back I think. Readability is gradually improving too. Still a majestic effort needed to really get the most important articles up to scratch and consistent though but the overall resource is the best it's ever been right now I think. Some of the localities I stubbed years back now have full articles on other wikis, you know the places which at the time were just falling rain or maplandia place names. That's promising. I'm sure eventually some of these Asian and African villages will have their own websites and more and more information will get online.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:25, 18 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Dr. Blofeld: Well, the thing is, getting to sleep isn't the problem. Sleeping through the night is the problem. I have a tendency to wake up in the night, which is very annoying. Again...I'm going to have to talk to someone about it, see what lifestyle changes I'm going to need to start considering.
I agree that things are getting immensely better around here. I've begun striking out into certain arenas of American folklore recently - things I never thought I'd be writing about, but things that have never existed in conventional encyclopedias. It excites me greatly that we're at that stage of our development to begin seriously thinking about such things. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:41, 18 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sometimes sleep can be disrupted if there's not enough blood and oxygen getting to your brain when you lie down. Days I walk more and am more physically active I tend to sleep longer without waking! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:02, 18 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Jiaqiong Town There you go, now if we can get every township of China started at a minimum level like that think how much better off we'd be! It only used to just be a falling rain entry! There's a video of a village on the shore of Daru lake in one of the sources from earlier this year but I can't access it but shows you that these places are starting to be covered!♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:10, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Brian Clement director of Hippocrates is not 42 years old.[edit]

Brian Clement Of Hippocrates Institute is not 42 years old. I was a soap vendor at his seminar 20 years ago. He is older than me. He’s in his 70’s. Check your sources. Cheeseblintz76 (talk) 15:55, 31 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Cheeseblintz76: I had nothing to do with adding the birthdate to his article. If you have a source, feel free to change it. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 00:22, 1 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Recreate without history[edit]

Does this not present a rather significant problem with regards to copyright and attribution? I understood that this practice is not standard for that reason. Nikkimaria (talk) 02:58, 1 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Nikkimaria: The articles I'm recreating were created initially by a banned user in violation of a block; my understanding is that they were previously deleted exclusively for that reason. Recreating without the history recreates the article without attribution to the banned user. I mean, I can stop if it proves to be troublesome; I thought it would be OK in this instance. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 03:01, 1 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The deletion removes the attribution, but also removes the content that requires attribution. The only previous discussion that I could find on this matter concluded that restoring the content without the attribution shouldn't be done. Has this been discussed elsewhere, to your knowledge? Nikkimaria (talk) 03:07, 1 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Nikkimaria: Not to my knowledge, no. Thanks for the ping - I'll leave it be for the time being. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 03:08, 1 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Adding a new subcategory[edit]

I know that you add categories to articles, so I thought you might be an expert on the subject. I am creating biographies on anthropologists who have won the Ruth Benedict Prize. I know of at least 10 of these individuals who identify as LGBT. That may be enough people to start a sub-category of Anthropologists, Category:LGBT anthroplogists. Do you think that is worth doing?, and if so, could you advise me how to create the subcategory so that it links properly with the main category, and anything other code I might need? thx MauraWen (talk) 15:10, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

(pagestalker) Hi MauraWen. Starting with ten items in a new subcategory is fine. I wonder if you were aware of or had a chance to review: Category:LGBT people by occupation. Perhaps Category:LGBT anthropolgists could mirror one of them in how it's set-up, e.g. such as Category:LGBT historians. Thoughts? --Rosiestep (talk) 15:56, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Rosiestep. That's a good idea! I had not noticed the LGBT people by occupation. The code looks pretty simple. Should I add a subcategory to Category-Anthropologists and also a subcategory to Category-LGBT people by occupation; two new subcategories, or is only one needed? thx for jumping in. MauraWen (talk) 16:20, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Rosiestep: and @MauraWen: Rosie's hit on the advice I'd give. When I'm looking to create a new category, I look for others that might be useful to mirror it. Let me look quickly at some other categories and see what I can come up with. And yes - I would put two new subcategories, one for each. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:11, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Rosiestep: and @MauraWen: Created. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:12, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It's exactly what I would have created. :) --Rosiestep (talk) 18:21, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Rosiestep: and @Ser Amantio di Nicolao: Thank you both! I went for a long walk on this beautiful day and returned to find the LGBT subcategories created. I will now add the LGBT individuals. MauraWen (talk) 18:47, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@MauraWen: Happy to be of help. For future reference, Rosiestep gave the same advice I'd offer; when I look to create a new category, I find another one with similar parameters and use that one as a model. Usually works out fine. :-) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 00:29, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it's certainly a much cleaner article now. And yet, you restored the "Selected articles", which is T&P material, listing things without obvious selection criteria or secondary sources; you restored the non-chronological biography, which--again--is more appropriate for a resume; and half of the references are primary material--links to articles, blog posts, poems, and publisher's pages. In other words--still puffy. Drmies (talk) 14:13, 6 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

September 2019[edit]

Information icon Please do not add or change content, as you did at Nora Houston, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. per WP:EGRS and WP:CATV we need adequate sources and article support for the LGBT cats you're adding. Elizium23 (talk) 16:54, 7 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Elizium23: Sources are the same as those for Adele Goodman Clark, her "very intimate friend" (to use the language from one of the sources). If it's good for one it should be good for the other, seems to me. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:00, 7 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
WP:EGRS: For a dead person, there must be a verified consensus of reliable published sources that the description is appropriate. Historically, LGBT people often did not come out in the way that they commonly do today, so a person's own self-identification is, in many cases, impossible to verify by the same standards that would be applicable to a contemporary BLP. For a dead person, a broad consensus of academic and/or biographical scholarship about the topic is sufficient to describe a person as LGBT. Elizium23 (talk) 17:06, 7 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Your extrapolation would be considered original research. I've removed cats from her "very intimate friend"'s article as well... Elizium23 (talk) 17:11, 7 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I am spot-checking your prolific contributions. Could you share with us your methods for determining that articles belong to these categories prior to your use of HotCat? Because it has time-consuming for me to find verifiable evidence inside the articles, much less in the sources provided. If you have automated it somehow, then perhaps we can adjust the algorithm to reduce false positives.
Elizium23 (talk) 22:18, 7 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Elizium23: Kapur was described with others as being "members of the LGBT community" in her article, and Newby was described as "gay". Murphy was categorized in a number of LGBT-related categories when I added the category. Nothing automated - I go by evidence from within the articles. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 07:08, 8 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Learning from your experience[edit]

Hi, read with interest of your work and would like to talk sometimes as I am building www.hobbyDB.com, a database of every collectible ever made. In a way, we consider ourselves the natural extension to Wikipedia (we have 50,000 pages on Hot Wheels, 80,000 for Hard Rock Cafe related merchandise etc etc - these are pages that have value to some but would not suite Wikipedia). I would love to learn from Wikipedia. We now have 6,000 contributors and need more rules and more standards, something that must have been an issue here. Can we talk sometimes? christian@hobbydb.com.

Hello. Just so you are aware, your additions of Category:Year of birth missing (living people) to Sudhakar Chaturvedi's article are getting removed because he is already in "year of birth uncertain", which is a more appropriate category given that we have a claimed year (1897), but a reliable source (Guinness World Records) that disputes that claim. His year of birth, therefore, is not so much missing (since there is a suggestion of what it might be) as it is uncertain. Canadian Paul 17:28, 11 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, there are two Alison Weirs that write books, right now the frankfurter article links to the one who writes british historical fiction. Question[edit]

First, hello ... I'm Ched. I had a question about this edit. I'm guessing it is because Mr. Davis wasn't from Africa? I'm not questioning in a right/wrong sense, but more a "I don't want to make a mistake about these types of things". The reason I noticed is that I have most of the Rat Pack on my very short watchlist. TY for your time. — Ched (talk) 03:06, 15 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Ched: The article is already in the category Category:African-American male singers. While this is a non-diffusing category, it's non-diffusing to Category:American male singers; Category:African-American singers is redundant. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:38, 15 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Suicides by hanging in Slovenia requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.

This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read! Hi SAdN, long time! You know I respect your contributions a lot, but I have serious doubts whether Agnieszka Dobosz is notable. @Piotrus: Ye-e-e-e-es...I take your point about museum collections, but I'm inclusionist enough to accept that criterion. :-) As to other sources: Google Books UK indicates there are a couple of sources I might be able to use to flesh it out a bit, were they not behind a firewall. Edits in Lebanese government of 2019[edit]

Greetings, firstly I would like you to know that I greatly respect your work. As you may be aware, ongoing protest, here in Lebanon, are denouncing corrupt officials and politicians, those edits in the article in the subject, were not, in my opinion, vandalism, they were also denouncing those same greedy politicians in our native tongue( we commonly use a mix between Latin alphabet and Arabic by representing sounds that have no equivalent in Latin with numbers on the internet), I understand that you are only trying to prevent misinformation and bias, and that you are trying to uphold Wikipedia's standards of objectivity by locking the article, and i understand if you choose to ignore this message as this is obviously an irregular case, after all if we were to consider the Wikipedia rules, no expression of one's biases and opinions is allowed while editing an article. But it would mean a great deal for me, and for a lot of Lebanese if you removed this article's protected status, to allow us to continue our struggle against this tyrannic government of ours, I hope you understand that the motives behind editing the article did not contain any ill-will and au contraire, it was a way for our people to raise awareness about our issues, if you believe removing this article's protected status jeopardizes your reputation and trust with other users of wikipedia then ignore this message, but i do not believe it will do so. Thank you

P. S: yes I made an account just for you. Welp, better start editing I guess. P. P. S: Sorry if I made any mistake, but English is my second to last language. P. P. P. Your draft article, Draft:Bulbophyllum kupense[edit]

Hello, Ser Amantio di Nicolao. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Bulbophyllum kupense".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Using bots to make translating articles easier[edit]

I am translating articles that are only in Spanish into English for the Women in Red, I started with Elsa Matilde Zardilla, and it was hard. I have been reading advice about translating using bots and google translate to help, (I am bilingual in Spanish ) but the advice is confusing. What do you recommend for a beginner , i.e. easiest to use.Toandael49 (talk) 14:28, 23 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Toandanel49: It's tricky...I've never found a mechanical translation program that really does the trick, for a variety of reasons. When I'm translating an article from another language, I find Google Translate is the most helpful tool; I will run the Wikipedia article through Translate to get some sense of what it's about, but I'll rework it in English rather than publishing a straight translation. And I always look for sources; if the non-English Wikipedia article is poorly sourced, I'll try and source as much of it as I can when I create an English version. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 14:34, 23 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Content check requested, please[edit]

Hello! With your admin / experienced editor hat on, could you please have a quick look at this edit? (I chose you because I see you've edited the article recently, sorry!) I note that it has added an astonishingly long list, and that it is the editor's only contribution so far. This is of course not necessarily a bad thing, but I do wonder. I was only brought to it by a spelling error but was a bit horrified by what I then saw ... I was tempted to just zap it out but thought I should probably ask a policy-aware grownup about it! Cheers DBaK (talk) 10:38, 27 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@DisillusionedBitterAndKnackered: I know others may disagree, but I don't see anything inherently wrong with a bibliography like that when it's added to an article. (At least once I've seen another article when the bibliography was pruned, however, so mileage varies.) But it's overwhelmingly large, and it's been poorly formatted, so I think you would be fine removing it or cutting it down, depending on what you'd prefer. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:02, 27 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Gloria Casarez[edit]

I see that you worked on the Gloria Casarez article, I have done some work on it, I am still new, would you check it? Toandanel49 (talk) 00:12, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Only 35,000 to go now to reach it but it's been 4 years since we passed 5 million. A bit depressing really given how many people visit us. Looks like it's be early 2020?? we'll pass it now unless we unleash some sub stubs every day until Christmas. ;-).♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:33, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Your kind help requested to revise Draft:Anton Smit (sculptor)[edit]

Dear User:Ser Amantio di Nicolao, your kind help is hereby requested to revise and hopefully improve Draft:Anton Smit (sculptor). As you may notice the draft article has been rejected by User:Theroadislong on the basis of the subject "not showing significant coverage in reliable, secondary, independent sources". Since from your edit record I notice an interest of yours in subjects dealing with visual arts, I wonder if you could kindly consider revising my draft with a view to addressing the objections raised. Your kind help will be gratefully appreciated.Neuralia (talk) 18:36, 6 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi User:Ser Amantio di Nicolao, within the above, may I now bring to your attention a fresh improvement to the article based on the artist´s work being a "significant monument/part of a significant exhibition" as required by the submission´s decliner. Could you please spare a moment to take a look and hopefully leave your opinion on the submission´s talk page? Thank you.Neuralia (talk) 14:17, 9 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Eponymous metric?[edit]

Hi and thanks for all your wonderful contributions. I really enjoyed the CBS interview.

I am working on a long-term project to measure how various topics are covered in the media. As part of that, I have devised a bunch of metrics, one of which is a sort of Erdős number for Wikipedia contributors that I'd like to name after you if it's OK. The number calculates two metrics:

  • a user's Wikipedia contributions (not simply edit count BTW)
  • their notability (not simply pageviews on their Wikipedia biographical article BTW)

I'd like to call it the Pruitt number if that's OK, but I wanted to check in first. You have the highest number in the current iteration of the equation, even edging out Jimbo. If you have another name suggestion, I'm all ears! Jokestress (talk) 17:26, 8 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Jokestress: It may be the mead talking, but I'm perfectly fine being its namesake. :-) Thanks very much for the honor. (Besides which, I can't really think of another name off the top of my head...again, maybe it's the mead talking.) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 23:39, 8 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Novelists[edit]

It's taken me five years to notice, but some of your previous AWB runs have categorized short story writers as novelists when they have never written a novel to my knowledge, and the article doesn't suggest that they have. Kelly Link for example. Something to bear in mind if you're still doing writer category runs. —Xezbeth (talk) 20:37, 17 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Xezbeth: I noticed it after I'd done a few runs...something in the way science-fiction writers are categorized, as I recall. I've tried to clean up what I can. Thanks for the note - I do try to bear it in mind when I do category runs these days, but there's always the likelihood that something's going to slip through. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 20:39, 17 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Your draft article, Draft:Motu Akea[edit]

Hello, Ser Amantio di Nicolao. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Motu Akea".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. Notice

The article Temarama Anguna has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Subject is not actually Minister for Agriculture (who is Rose Toki-Brown)- according to refs she is secretary (or "head") of the Ministry of Agriculture. Also see the Ministry Facebook page [1] As a civil servant, subject does not meet WP:NPOL.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

Hi there, after a bit of research I couldn't find enough on the subject to get past WP:GNG either, so thought it best to prod. Curdle (talk) 10:32, 26 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

a better way to categorise?[edit]

A few years back, I noted that deWP had a very clean way of categorising subjects, with each individual attribute having a separate tag.

Male | Born 1972 | American | Composer | Musician | Classical music

Very simple, clear and pretty stable. I presume that the search tools allow any arbitrary combination of tags, so supporting searches on left-handed, ginger-haired, French opera composers. The enWP cateories appear to me, in contrast, as an overly-constrained and mysterious timesink.

American male classical composers | American classical composers | Texas classical music | Musicians from St. Louis | 20th-century classical composers | 21st-century classical composers | Living people | 21st-century American composers | 20th-century American composers | Classical musicians from Missouri | 20th-century American male musicians | 21st-century American male musicians

That list surely could be rendered down to a much clearer and more straightforward list of attributes? and one that (in addition) would allow a wider range of searches on all combinations, eg 'Composers from St Louis' etc etc etc.

I'd love to see this in enWP (but don't know where to suggest it). Am I missing something? You are clearly engaged with the current enWP system. Does it have advantages that I am just not seeing? In perplexity Scarabocchio (talk) 11:47, 29 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Found bad information. Needs to be updated.[edit]

First navy jack flag is listed as being flown on the wrong ship if you follow the "don't tread on me" information. It appears to be correct on its own page. I have no desire to edit wikipedia. Would you mind fixing this?

Again "don't tread on me" page listing "first navy jack" on wrong vessel. Very out dated information.

Question regarding your Category edits[edit]

Greetings, Ser Amantio. I just came across a recent edit where you changed a category - and marked it as a "minor edit". That surprised me. I thought perhaps it was just a tiny mistake in the course of the endless stream of edits you make. But just to be sure, I took a look at your contributions and was astonished to see a long list of category changes that were ALL marked as "minor edits".

I am genuinely speechless. I would have thought that a dedicated editor with your vast experience would know better than to mark category changes as "minor edits". Hmmmm.... Come to think of it, I've come across many of your category edits over the years, and I don't recall them being marked as "minor". In fact, I'm pretty sure I would have left you a note a long time ago if that were the case. Huh. Now I am really scratching my head. What gives?? Have you perhaps inadvertently changed a setting or something? Regards, Anomalous+0 (talk) 10:02, 8 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ahah. I think I've discovered the probable source of the problem. I just found some edits you made back in 2016. You were using AWB at that time, and those category edits were NOT marked as "minor". But you switched over to Cat-a-lot some time back, and now ALL of those edits are being marked as "minor". (Please be kind enough to ping me when you reply. Thanks!) Anomalous+0 (talk) 12:21, 8 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Anomalous+0: I have actually been asked on multiple occasions over the years, by multiple editors, to mark my AWB edits as minor. This includes category changes - I've been told that they clutter up watchlists. (I cannot say, myself - I don't really use my watchlist for much.)
As for Cat-a-lot, thats's a horse of a different color; I have very little control over its settings, as far as I know. And most of those are set over at Commons regardless. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:16, 8 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the info, Ser Amantio. I've never used either, so I'm not familiar with their settings. If what you said about the Cat-a-lot settings is indeed the case, this is a much larger problem than I feared, because that would mean a lot of other Category edits are being marked as "minor" -- which they most assuredly are not. I guess I will have to take this issue up with the folks over at Commons. Thanks again. Regards, Anomalous+0 (talk) 00:12, 9 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers[edit]

Damon Runyon's short story "Dancing Dan's Christmas" is a fun read if you have the time. Right from the start it extols the virtues of the hot Tom and Jerry

This hot Tom and Jerry is an old-time drink that is once used by one and all in this country to celebrate Christmas with, and in fact it is once so popular that many people think Christmas is invented only to furnish an excuse for hot Tom and Jerry, although of course this is by no means true.

No matter what concoction is your favorite to imbibe during this festive season I would like to toast you with it and to thank you for all your work here at the 'pedia this past year. Best wishes for your 2020 as well Ser. MarnetteD|Talk 01:54, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi[edit]

Hi, there has been an attempt to ‘delete’ my Wikipedia page , after I commented on a political post on Twitter . It is clear that The Wikipedia editor’s ( who has edited my page) action is clearly motivated by his opposite beliefs . Thanks , Gaurav Agnihotri . — Preceding unsigned comment added by 219.91.213.72 (talk) 08:42, 25 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Lutheran churches in Frankfurt[edit]

Category:Lutheran churches in Frankfurt: none of the elements is a Lutheran church. The Paulskirche isn't even a church. The Dreikönigskirche is Protestant (United). We have Category:Protestant churches in Wiesbaden which is much better. Help? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:29, 28 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Gerda Arendt: At least one of them looks like it belongs in the category - otherwise I'm not sure what you want me to do, exactly? Should be easy enough to remove the ones that don't belong. Though I don't know what the rubric is; if they were Lutheran at some point, then possibly they would belong in the category as well? --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 02:14, 29 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't looked at all, just know that Protestant (German: evangelisch) is more general. Lutheran would be a subcategory if there really is one, and not that "Lutheran" also the result of sloppiness or misunderstanding. The normal evangelische Kirche in Hesse is United, Union of Lutheran and Reformed. Look at Unionskirche, Idstein, yes, the one on my user page (this year, will be different next year). Very few churches in Hesse - which Frankfurt belongs to - will be purely Lutheran, and if you se the term, it may be a mistranslation. This is different in Lower Saxony, for example. Every Lutheran church is also a Protestant church, but Protestantism comes also in many other colours. For the one you saw you may want to check their German article or website if it really says Lutherisch and not just evangelisch (which is Protestant and not Evengelical). - Happy new year! (Look there again when it comes, decoration in prep.) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:19, 29 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Gerda Arendt: I'm afraid disentangling this is going to be beyond my pay grade, given that I don't speak German. Sorry - I'm sure there's someone better suited to it than I would be. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 10:39, 29 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
There's no need to disentangle, just to move from one name to the other. I'd do the follow-up if you ping me. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:31, 29 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Gerda Arendt: I've moved the four into Category:Churches in Frankfurt and made Category:Lutheran churches in Frankfurt for now. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 03:46, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ria Persad[edit]

Dear Ser,

Can you please have a look at the edits I made concerning Ria Persad?

If they are okay, can you please remove the maintenance template?

I do not know how to do this, so I would appreciate your help.

Thank you.

Best regards. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 54geren (talkcontribs) 20:55, 29 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
