Angel David[edit]

I've added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Angel David, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree, discuss the issues raised at Talk:Angel David. If you remove the {{dated prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Seed mechas[edit]

You do not have to post on every related page, I have answered your question in Talk:List of Gundam SEED characters and really hope that you can help. MythSearchertalk 14:45, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your contribution. When, though, another editor changes what you've done (especially a more experienced editor), it's usually best to think about why they did it (perhaps asking them) rather than merely reverting. In this case, aside from some grammtical and stylistic issues, you've reinserted a track-listing for an album, but the article is about a band; track-listings are appropriate only for articles on albums. You've also relinked "keyboards"; we don't give internal links on every occasion of use of a term (either once in an article, or at most once per screen-full of text). --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 15:32, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. You can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → check Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Thanks! --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 15:48, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Again, though, the link is relevant to the album, but not to the band. As the album did poorly, it's unlikely that an article is warranted, but that's where it would have been relevant.
  1. It's really important to explain your edits in edit summaries. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 16:28, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

1.

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

2. You might be interested in adding the album to RYM. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 10:52, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Requests[edit]

First, it would at least be common courtesy to respond to comment, advice, and requests placed here by other editors; it would also encourage good will, which is often important when editing diputes arise. Secondly, you are still using edit summaries for none of your edits; it is thus impossible to tell why you're making them, and so difficult to assess them. In such circumstances, you're likely to find them deleted, as has already happened. Again, aside from the courtesy involved in using them, and the fact that they're required, it's in your own interests. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 16:13, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I see that you've finally responded. What I said in my edit summary, together with what I've said above, should answer your question. A couple of examples: "who are both rather notorious for their past involvement with The Cure" isn't good English style; terms like notorious are not neutral; ina any case, this shouldn't appear in the summary (unless you're saying that the important thing about the band is other activities by two of its members, which would imply that the article shouldn't be here, as the band is insufficiently significant). The new oredring of material, again, placed the band's musical/recording work right at the end, and the gossip about drink, drugs, antagonism, etc., at the beginning.
I'll rescue the references from your final version, and place them in the text. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 16:18, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I see that you're determined not to adopt good manners in your editing. It's becoming clear that neither the article on the band nor on the album are notable, and that at best they deserve a brief mention in the article on The Clash.
I suppose that there's no point making this request, but I'll do it anyway. when leaving messages on Talk pages, always sign them with ~~~~, in order to leave a link to your user page and the time and date of your mesage. without that, it's difficult for people to know who's writing, and to reply. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 17:12, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Images[edit]

in order to include an image, you have to up-load it (using the "Upload file" button at the left of the page). Make sure that you include an appropriate licensing/copyright template (Wikipedia is now almost hysterically paranoid about this, and images are deleted in large numbers). --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 17:31, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Articles, etc.[edit]

It's good to see that you're using edit summaries. The only problem now is that, once material has been added to an article, it passes into Wikipedia ownership, and you have to have good reason for deleting it. As far as I can tell, you think that it somehow makes the band or the people in it look worse — but our only criteria are: is it relevant, and can it be verified as true? It seems that both are the case, , so there aren't any grounds for removal.

I've kept the new quotation that you found, as it balances that paragraph nicely. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 22:29, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article structure[edit]

As I've been trying to explain, perhaps not clearly enough, the important material should come at the beginning, in the lead paragraph. For further advice, information, and editing guidelines, see Wikipedia:Lead section. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 17:55, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Etiquette[edit]

"Actively erasing personal messages without replying (if a reply would be appropriate or polite) will probably be interpreted as hostile. In the past, this kind of behavior has been viewed as Civility|uncivil, and this can become an issue in arbitration or other formal proceedings." (from Wikipedia:Removing warnings#Can I do whatever I want to my own user talk page?). --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 16:34, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You've come here to edit, yet you seem determined to ignore our (or, indeed, any) standards of civility, not to mention our rules and guidelines for articles. I've been more than civil, offering advice and help — in return I've at best been ignored, at worst, you've responded with childish attacks. Your attempt to remove the evidence of our exchanges is fruitless (though understandable), as it remains in the edit History (and would remain there even if the relevant pages were not merely blanked but deleted).
You've done nothing so far that warrants my blocking you from eiting (and in any case I couldn't do that, because I'm not a neutral party); if you behave to others as you have to me, though, I doubt that you'll find editing here a happy experience.
Now, if you'd like to start again, that will be fine; I can forget your behaviour up to now, and we can start afresh. It's entirely up to you. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 17:54, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry not to have replied immediately — I was more-or-less simultaneously engaged in two long discussions and a complicated Page Move. Of course it's good enough — more than good enough. And if there's anything you need help with in the future, feel free to drop me a note. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 23:54, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summaries[edit]

I have my preferences (editing) set to prompt me if I try to save an edit with a blank edit summary. Anyone can forget sometimes, otherwise. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 16:09, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your message[edit]

Looks good to me. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 18:23, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Publicity photos[edit]

I'm afraid that it's incredibly difficult to find out. The reason seems to be that Wikipedia has recently got all hysterically paranoid about such things. Because our license means that other people can use our material for profit-making purposes (why would an encyclopædia that prides itself on being free allow other people to charge for what we've done? Who knows?) we're not allowed to use publicity photos, even when we've been given direct permission. I've recently had problems with this myself. You need to get permission specifically to use the photos udner our licensing agreement. The best thing to do is to contact the relevant people (agents, PR company, artists, or whoever) and ask if there's a photo that we can use (giving a link to something like this page). Once you've been given permission, I think that it's OK to use the photo.

Sorry about all this; it seems designed to make it difficult if not impossible to use photos for any article on a living or recently living person. The claim is (but it's just a legal nonsense) that a fair-use image can be replaced by one that isn't — but how are you suupposed to go out an photograph a band that no longer exists?

You might want to check all of this at Wikipedia talk:Fair use, as I might have misunderstood some of the legal gobbledegook. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 22:29, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry about it; I know what job stress is like. We got off on the wrong foot, and now we're on the right foot. All's well that ends well. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 20:49, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm at the moment involved in a dispute about this kind of image — but the bulk of admins are against me; their view is that we mustn't make fair use of fair-use images, and are condoning the removal of such images from artciles without notice. I honestly wouldn't bother up-loading this image. (Image:Matthew Erickson.jpg won't last long...)

In principle, though, is this the one that you mean? I don't think that it's (legally) down-loadable. You can, of course, get it by going into the relevant temp folder of your browser and saving it to a permanent folder — but you wouldn't be able to use it on Wikipedia, as it doesn't even fit the fair-use criterion. (The same goes for the Matthew Erickson photo.) Sorry. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 15:31, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Archiving[edit]

If you'd like help with archiving (rather than just blanking the page, let me know. essentially, you just create a page at User talk:Shaneymike/Archive 1 and cut-and-paste the text to it (leaving a link to the archive here). --Mel Etitis (Talk) 18:20, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That worked perfectly; now you just need a section somewhere at the top of the page where you link to the archive. Lots of editors have more-or-less fancy ways of doing it — you could steal one of their ideas, or devise something of your own. --Mel Etitis (Talk) 17:40, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, on my page I have a pretty plain set of links, but you could look at User talk:SlimVirgin for a fancier way of doing it (see above). --Mel Etitis (Talk) 18:29, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Archiving[edit]

That looks perfect. (Note that you don't want to archive too often, because you can get clogged up with too many archive files.) --Mel Etitis (Talk) 19:24, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your message[edit]

As both bands released albums and singles, I'd personally say that they're fit subjects for articles. You might have a look at Wikipedia:Notability (music), though. --Mel Etitis (Talk) 21:18, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding edits to Inside (Presence)[edit]

Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia, Shaneymike! However, your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove spam from Wikipedia. If you were trying to insert a good link, please accept my creator's apologies, but note that the link you added, matching rule \bangelfire\.com\/, is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. Please read Wikipedia's external links policy for more information. If the link was to an image, please read Wikipedia's image tutorial on how to use a more appropriate method to insert the image into an article. If your link was intended to promote a site you own, are affiliated with, or will make money from inclusion in Wikipedia, please note that inserting spam into Wikipedia is against policy. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! Shadowbot 13:36, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Singles articles?[edit]

Hi - Do you really think all four singles from Inside (Presence) are notable enough to warrant individual articles? You could have these redirect to the album, but having them as individual articles seems like overkill to me (if the album was commercially unsuccessful, I'd imagine the singles were as well, which I'd think would mean references on these would be difficult or impossible to find). If you agree with the redirect idea, please just do it. If not, I may nominate these for deletion. -- Rick Block (talk) 01:16, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

To make a page redirect to another, change the entire contents of the "from" page to:
#REDIRECT [[to page]]
(starting the #REDIRECT on the first line with no leading spaces or anything). For more on this, please see Wikipedia:Redirect. -- Rick Block (talk) 13:26, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:Andrew_francis_full.jpg[edit]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Andrew_francis_full.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 11:45, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Replaceable fair use Image:Venus Terzo full.jpg[edit]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Venus Terzo full.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information.

Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ricky81682 (talk) 07:16, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Ted cole full.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Ted cole full.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ricky81682 (talk) 04:18, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alice in Chains album no 4[edit]

The reason why it was deleted is because there was to much speculative and/or unconfirmed info which means it did not passed WP:CRYSTAL. It did not have a title (nor was there one in consideration), and no release date at all. No information on the songs. It had info that looked to be more suitable in the band's article. If more confirmed information is provided and if it passes WP:CRYSTAL, it can be re-created/re-instated. Maybe new information was revealed since the deletion though. See : Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Alice in Chains' fourth studio album for the discussion. --JForget 23:35, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm just letting you know that I've removed the paragraph from the Lol Tolhurst article again as it violates WP:BLP. As I'm sure you're aware WP:BLP requires that any contentious information about living people must have a citation. I'm sure that the information I've removed is true, but it must be cited in order to be included. Please don't add the paragraph again without adding a verifiable citation as well. Thanks --JD554 (talk) 20:37, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What kind of help? SilentmanX (talk) 18:32, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've been trying to do that, but it just won't happened. I think you have to make an article for each of the group so that it can accept the changes, but since on new articles have being made since it is the first episode, it will take a couple of weeks until we get more info on the characters, so we have to wait until we get something. Image permission problem with Image:Mhartley.jpg[edit]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Mhartley.jpg, which you've sourced to http://www.uyea.de/biographie/images/matthieu.jpg. I noticed that that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the image (or other media file) agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the image to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the image has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the image's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Images lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Nv8200p talk 19:53, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
