NOTICE: Regarding my Wikipedia status
At this time, after a FAC, I am extremely aggravated at Wikipedia. I now understand and agree with its critics. I currently do not plan on returning to Wikipedia. However, I will return in a few weeks to revaluate my situation. It does not appear that I will return. Thank you to all of those on this horrible, not-so-tranparent website that have made it a little better. Do not take any action based on these messages yet, as I will revaluate the situation in a few weeks. It does not appear that there is much hope for my return, though. On October 4, 2007 WikiProject Illinois embarked on a membership census. The census was the project's first since its establishment on September 24, 2005. Due to the nature of the wiki, and the two years that had passed, it seemed likely that many of the project's older members were no longer active. The project page had grown stagnant and the census provided an opportunity to see who was still around, slaving away in their own corner of the encylopedia, unknown to the rest of the Illinois editing world. Well, now, the tabulation is complete, and after a notice at the Community Portal, we have gained a couple new members amongst the cluster of project veterans who returned to sign up. Of the 55 members listed on the project membership list on October 4, 26 editors returned to the list to "resign up," thus, confirming their current activity within project areas. If you received this message, you were one of those editors. The List of Participants has now been updated to reflect the results of this membership survey, with members who failed to respond highlighted as "inactive." Now, as a group of editors, we have a core list of individuals, that will hopefully grow in size as the project strives to become a better organized central collaboration space for editors working on Illinois related topics.
The big question, where does the project go from here? Well there are a few proposals being floated at this project page. Little discussion has occurred thus far, and participation would be key to all of them. Some ideas include:

Hey, that would be awesome if you can get any pictures of any communities that you live near for Illinois. My only suggestion is that you upload them to the Commons, so that way later on they won't need to be moved. - That is ok. One thing I have been doing lately, is putting the geobox template in the cities, villages, and towns near me. Click on any of the cities, towns, villages in Template:Stephenson County, Illinois to see what I have been doing. I have updated both the articles on Allendale, Illinois and Lawrenceville, Illinois. All images have been tagged, geobox2 has been added to both articles. Any questions, let me know. Two requests. Enigma Outbreak
Thanks for the message. I've been doing a lot of research locally - I have Grazulis' book, and several university libraries in my area. I've found copies of wire articles published that describe many of the storms in widely varying levels of detail. I still need to do some cleanup and sourcing with the article.
The foundation article ran in the NY Times, two days later, and it did a state-by-state accounting, though telegraph communications in some areas were disrupted, so the articles were very detailed in their coverage of some states (AL, GA, SC and the floods along the OH River), and very limited in others. Midwestern papers (perhaps due to greater familiarity with tornado outbreaks) had good coverage as well. Most of the detail in NC came from two small-town papers, in Wadesboro and Statesville, NC. An individual living near Wadesboro undertook a very detailed survey of the three large storms which passed through that area - travelling the path of the strongest storm (and recording damage details and some survivor stories), and drafting a house-to-house inventory of effects along the path of the others. This gentleman also summarized effects elsewhere in NC.
Grazulis' book and a road atlas provided F? ratings, when available and/or applicable, and were of help in pinpointing counties, towns and distances. Grazulis was also the source for some details, though I would not like for this to be the lone source, and am still working to develop as many other sources as possible. The basic article, and specific storm details were first pulled from the aforementioned newspaper sources. Chart entries with multiple referenced sources are the ones I consider complete; the others I am still working to beef up. Some, but not all, of those sources are available online, and I'll get those links up as soon as I can. The emergency management offices in VA and AL have a complete inventory of significant tornadoes in those states, and the AL listing includes path maps. The journal of the American Meteorological Society also was a source - primarily of value in pinpointing locations and times (their severe weather reports usually did not offer descriptions of effects, but did list times and locations).
Thanks for reading through, and any suggestions or pointers would be welcome. I've been working - within the 'tornado projects' - to try to research older outbreaks, and significant outbreaks striking unusual parts of the country (SE, Mid-Atlantic and NE, specifically). I've done a good bit of reading and digging around for info that covers the Midwest, Plains and Miss. Valley as well, so let me know if I can help in any projects you might be undertaking.

Re. Feb. 16, 2008 tornado Outbreak
This is going on RIGHT NOW! So far, there has been tornadoes and servere storms seen in the Texas area. It has only begun. Check www.weather.com for more. - That person is referring to a dangerous weather situation in which Thunderstorms were dropping tornadoes all over the place, and a "Self Powered Radio" is a radio that has some kind of generator in it, and/or a solar panel that charges a internal battery which operates the radio, thus this kind is a good one to have in the event that batteries become unavailable, such as what happens in areas affected by incomming hurricanes in which batteries are sold out and no further orders are possible due to the storms. 65.163.115.237 (talk) 02:48, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Marion, Illinois tornado outbreak
I saw your request for advice for how to improve this. I did a general copyedit of it (feel free to change anything you really don't like). A couple general things (I actually had this backwards the first time around), per the MOS, times should be lowercase, so pm or p.m. rather than P.M. I did some more wikilinking, especially of the weather terms. As a general rule, spell out numbers when they're under 10 I think, so say "nine people" rather than "9 people". As far as anything else, the only thing major I can think of is to include metric values in as well whenever possible. This can be easily done by using the convert template. {{convert|75|F|C|0}}. The 75 is the temp, and the 0 at the end is how many decimal places to make the converted value. Oh, and if you want, you can improve the references by converting them to the Citation templates. Those can be a little confusing if you've never used them so let me know if you have any questions about them. That's about it though, good job on it! - One more thing. You can go ahead and upload any of the photos on this page (especially the tornado photos!). http://www.crh.noaa.gov/pah/1982/photos.php. Even thought they were taken by someone not in the NWS, buried in the NOAA web pages is this disclaimer: The information on government servers are in the public domain, unless specifically annotated otherwise, and may be used freely by the public so long as you do not 1) claim it is your own (e.g. by claiming copyright for NWS information -- see below), 2) use it in a manner that implies an endorsement or affiliation with NOAA/NWS, or 3) modify it in content and then present it as official government material. You also cannot present information of your own in a way that makes it appear to be official government information.. Basically this means that anything that gets put on an NOAA web page is automatically in the public domain, unless it says otherwise. (Here is an example of otherwise, look at the 4th photo down.) "Unreferenced"?
I clearly stated that the figures were from Census 2000. Sure, I could have linked them by typing http://factfinder.census.gov/servlet/DTTable?_bm=y&-context=dt&-ds_name=DEC_2000_SF3_U&-CONTEXT=dt&-mt_name=DEC_2000_SF3_U_PCT016&-tree_id=, but I figured it would be enough to mention Census 2000, where anybody can find them. At the very least you could have had the courtesy of asking me more precisely about the origin of those figures and I would have told you. As a general rule, when you're not dealing with an obvious case of vandalism, it's (to put it politely) not recommended to delete the work of other people without consulting them. Mount Carmel image
It seems that with Template:Geobox Settlement you don't need to put px (pixel abbreviation) beside the size. I've first tried by leaving the image size line blanked, which gives the image a default size of 256 pixels and it worked. Trying to restore the initial size of 175 pixels without the abbreviation and it worked. With the tornado outbreak infobox, there was usually no image size line and it was not oversize like it was in the current case, seems it is probably also a default size of 256 pixels. + Thanks, that's pretty much the party line I got last night (and negativity isn't really an issue considering the field that my company is in) I will continue to look for news stories referencing our company online, and in our archives. It is difficult however, because most of our media coverage has been heavily reliant on a media kit sent out by our former pr person. However, I believe that BCC can be used reliably as a source of the subject of our report fields. False tornadoes
Yes, I decided to remove them since it has been nearly 2 weeks and no reports on them - it is quite possible they were just funnel clouds or straight-line wind damage (or false reports). Generally they get removed about 10-20 days after an outbreak, with larger outbreaks having longer times of unconfirmed tornadoes remaining in the chart. (Sometimes the difference can be a bit longer in a situation of two or more outbreaks in rapid fire but separated enough - either by time or distance - to warrant a combined article; since it is almost April that is always possible in the spring - the only recent spring without an article-worthy outbreak is 2005.) Surface weather observation
Today is the last day I can edit this article before April 5, and chances are that I've done most of the edits I can do today. If there are lingering issues, the article will either need to be failed or placed on hold until after April 5. I did not anticipate the article would take so long to get reviewed (though I am glad that it has been reviewed). If left unchecked, it treats the text in the box as the text you want the link to your userpage to be shown as, but affects nothing else. In this case, for the signature that User:Bam123456789 wishes to use, that checkbox must be checked for it to work. I hope I haven't sounded too harsh, if I did, I didn't mean to. Hi there, i'm sorry for adding the severe weather watches for April 3, 2008. I did not know that these watches are not notable as of yet. I guess the information on severe weather will be added to the Tornadoes of 2008, only if the severe storms have already occured in these locations? how often does that {{StormWatch}} template used on this tornado page? Take care, from Northern Ontario, Canada where there's still lots and lots of snow on the ground, which is very unusual for this time of year!

Illinois photo requests
I'm recategorizing them all into specific county categories for photo requests. If the article already had a {{reqphoto}} tag on the talk page, I simply add in "Name of County, Illinois" in place of "Illinois". I'm generally not paying attention whether or not there is a photo or not on the article or not. This is a model of what's already been done in a few states, for example, Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in California. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 14:51, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
