Edits to V12 engine page[edit]

Hi there. Thanks for your edit on the list of V-12 road cars. You're absolutely right about the CLK DTM AMG being a V-8 model -- I hadn't noticed that before you deleted it. However, you are incorrect to delete the S63 and CL63 AMG from the list. In the W215/W220 generation, a 6.3-liter version of the V-12 engine was created by AMG, tuned to 444 horsepower. The model was sold for 2001 as the S63 AMG, with a CL63 AMG coupe counterpart. Few were made, but you can find pictures here (http://www.fantasycars.com/sedans/HTML/mercedes_s63_amg_w220.html). Just thought you might want to know. Cheers. Sacxpert (talk) 01:37, 27 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The 6.3L engine, better known as the Mercedes-Benz M156, is a V8. In the S63 and CL 63 it makes over 500 horsepower. You are wrong. Space Turbo (talk) 06:50, 27 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not wrong about a V-12 S63 AMG (and the even rarer CL63 AMG that came out at the same time, in the latter half of 2001). According to this site, it used a tuned and enlarged V-12.[1] Other references here,[2] plus a WorldCarFans history page here,[3] and a picture of the rear on this page.[4] It was a limited-edition, special order model, and was never sold in the USA. This is not the current-generation W221/W216 S/CL-Class, it's the previous model. A roadtest of the S63 AMG is blurbed here.[5] Finally, Dupont Registry discussed it, too.[6] It's a pity more weren't made. Sacxpert (talk) 00:43, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, you've proven your point. But can you find any data on this engine? Does it have an internal designation within Mercedes-Benz? Are there any more technical data about this engine? Can you include (more) detailed information about it on other pages where it is referenced?

If yes to any of the above, you should look at writing an article for this engine because Wikipedia does not have one. Space Turbo (talk) 01:42, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's a derivative of the M137 plant. At least one of those articles -- and a forum post at mbworld.org -- mention left-over 5.8 L V-12 engines used up by AMG to make the S63, CL63, and G63 models.[7] I know that's just an internet forum, but they're probably on the right track. I don't know much about Mercedes AMG engine labeling; maybe it didn't have a discrete model number of its own. I don't know anything else about it; I only found out about the S63 by reading a UK buyer's guide that mentioned the S63 AMG as special order, 110,000 pounds sterling. Sorry I can't be more helpful in that regard. Sacxpert (talk) 02:59, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
