Copyright status

{{helpme}}

Note: This question/request requires a person with knowledge of copyright.

I recently uploaded Image:Cumberland 1908.jpg, which is a logo of a rugby league (sporting) team for use on the Cumberland (rugby league team) article.

I uploaded under fair use of being a logo.

I recently read Australian copyright law and Copyright expiration in Australia.

I may have missed a bit in those articles, but this sporting team was founded in 1908 and disbanded the same year.

That sort of means that the logo had to be from that year?? Those two articles say that various things before 1955 are in the public domain.

Could someone clarify this? I need help understanding? and Is this image free.  The Windler talk  09:57, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

You might want to try this at WP:ICHD. Algebraist 10:53, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
According to {{PD-Australia}}, the image should go into the public domain if the author, the person who created the image, died at least 70 years ago (1937 or early 1938). I'm not completely certain about how this would apply to a logo, so you probably would be better off asking at the help desk. They're almost sure to know and will help you out. Thanks for trying to fix the code so that anyone could use my Happy Spring template, I tried that earlier but by then I had already used it a few times and it wouldn't work, I am planning on doing some of these in the future so when I make the next template I'll be sure to format the code the way you tried and I'll also remember to subset the template. Thanks for the help, --Mifter (talk) 22:35, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm intrigued by your tagging Thornber's talk page with a Rugby league wikiproject. His article doesn't mention anything about the sport, so I'm wondering if you know something I don't. - Dudesleeper / Talk 15:30, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Never mind. I see it was a mistake on Betacommandbot's behalf back in July last year. - Dudesleeper / Talk 15:34, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

SpecialWindler archive

The following used to be on the page User:SpecialWindler/Assessment, which was a temmporary page in the SpecialWindler userspace.

==Proposal== It has been proposed by me (SpecialWindler) that a new bot go through and assess certain articles. These certain articles are categorised in the Unassessed category but also in an Assessed category (either as FA, A, GA, B, Start or Stub). However there are many articles which have been assessed as one thing while another project has yet to assess the article. The bot's proposal would be to assess the unassessed article as the other projects assessment, which would save time for that assessment.

Take Talk:Shane Perry as an example, it is rated as Start for the WikiProject Biography but unassessed for the Rugby league WikiProject. Would it not save the time of the Rugby league assessment team to have it assessed as Start by a bot. However the problem is that various WikiProjects have different assessment criteria. While most projects base it of this {{Grading scheme}}, some may not and wouldn't like a bot to do that.

If you would like to make a suggestion about this bot proposal you may want to add a suggestion at this page under the section "Comments from WikiProjects", in which you should state which WikiProject you come from. You may also want to look at the background of this proposal at Bot requests (under "WikiProject assessing" section) and then Wikipedia talk:Version 1.0 Editorial Team (under "bot" section).

This message was substed from this page to alert some WikiProjects whether this bot is a good idea, to see if it can be run. It is planned that some WikiProjects will not like the idea and can be excluded from this bot, if it does go ahead. Thankyou. </noinclude><includeonly>~~~~</includeonly><noinclude>

Can you put formulas in tables?

For example

12 8 (12+8)

The main use is that when the variable (12 and/or 8) changes, the third cell won't need editing.  The Windler talk  23:12, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

If you put the table in a template, like User:Stwalkerster/Sandbox/Template/Example1, then yes.
Usage Example:
Num 1 Num 2 total
User:Stwalkerster/Sandbox/Template/Example1
User:Stwalkerster/Sandbox/Template/Example1
Feel free to copy that bit into your user area, or somewhere else. Just click "move" - I don't mind. I hope this helps, Stwalkerstertalk ] 23:23, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
Let me clarify, my template has the 3 cell definitions in it, nothing more. Therefore replace 3 side-by-side cells in the table with the template, as shown above. If you don't specify one of the values, it defaults to zero. Stwalkerstertalk ] 23:25, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
I have replied on my talk page. Stwalkerstertalk ] 00:03, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Colours

Good work with changing some of those 3-striped colours. At first it took me a while to get used to the change but I can honestly say that most look a lot better now. Once a decent SVG program for Mac comes out I'll have a go styling them even more, but until then, I'm happy to see these good changes being made. Well done mate. MDM (talk) 09:20, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Yeah I had a go and downloaded that a few days ago but unfortunately the demo version for Windows isn't available on Mac. The problem with this is that this is the first version which has the flood filling command (which is what I assume you use to easily change colours intermittently). So until a proper new release is available for download, I can't really do much properly. Thanks anyway. MDM (talk) 08:52, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

I didn't know we had a RL barnstar, cheers for that. Bongomanrae (talk) 09:42, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

Rugby League Jerseys

The Running Man Barnstar
Excellent work with drawing those new jerseys up mate. They look absolutely terrific. Where abouts do you find them in order to draw them up? Anyway, out of appreciation of this and everything else you've done for the project over a year I'll award you the "Running Man Barnstar", the one given for fantastic sports editing. MDM (talk) 00:05, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
I do have one request though from you. Could you possibly draw up 4 of the Roosters' main jerseys (forget the away ones). They are: the three on the right here, and our war jersey. And I hate to be really pedantic (even though nobody will notice), but could you get the dimensions as close as possible as to what they look there? For instance, the 8 small double horizontal stripes in the red and blue foundation jerseys, and also the dimensions of the V in our main home jersey are slightly off from what you've done already. That would be most appreciated. Thanks heaps. MDM (talk) 00:05, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
Actually, so you can see the colours a bit easier:

Cheers, MDM (talk) 00:11, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, sure, I worry about the new jersey's first and then the dimensions of the original two. When I upload them they will be on my gallery (I'm not posting them on the projects talk page any more). They should be done by the end of the day, but I'll alert you anyway.
Thanks for the barnstar, and I've been updating List of National Rugby League golden point games, which you made a FL, but to keep it accurate, I have been updating. Though, I though you might have, seeing you did a great job.  The Windler talk  00:14, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
Also, is there a year the jersey was first used for the "war" and "blue heritage" jersey and when they were first used. To go with my theme of having the year the jersey's were first used in the image title. They don't have to be correct, just estimates. Alot of the years on my gallery are estimates, not real, especially for jersey's 1908-1970. The two original Roosters ones aren't, it is very famous and said in the book I'm using for all these jersey's.
Also, is the blue jersey, exactly the same as the foundation jersey except with blue backdrop (instead of red) and the blue stripes replaced with red.  The Windler talk  00:26, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
OK, I've done them all, uploaded new versions of the original two, and the war one (those three are on the Sydney Roosters article). The heritage jersey, once I'm given a year (I researched a little, and can't seem to find one, which is making me believe it is an "away" jersey, but...) I'll upload it.  The Windler talk  01:44, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
Yeah the blue foundation is pretty much the same except for the reversed colours. As for the year it was first worn, I wouldn't have a clue unfortunately. Give it some arbitrary year in the filename and if we find out when it first appeared exactly, then we can just re-upload the file again with proper naming. Thanks heaps mate. MDM (talk) 01:57, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
OK, I've uploaded it as here Image:Eastern Suburbs home jersey 19??.svg (how original). I don't know what use you want to put to it so it's all yours.  The Windler talk
Excellent. Thanks for that. MDM (talk) 03:06, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

help

{{helpme}}

On my sandbox User:SpecialWindler/Sandbox4, I am attempting a few things.

But one thing is getting me stuck

In the column "Season's participated", I am trying to get the table to sort by the number of seasons they have played in.

It all works, but the numbers are sorted as letters (1,10,2 etc) instead of (1,2,10).

How do I fix this without using {{nts}} which I've tryed but failed.  The Windler talk  07:18, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Don't worry, I figured it out.  The Windler talk  09:04, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Infobox Help

Hi Joel, I wonder if you can help with a hurdle that's holding up my player article Infobox drive. The RU infobox see Lote Tuquiri provides good ability to detail a dual-code player's RL and RU history. It separates the RL rep section into a State section and a Nat section.(Don't ask me why. ) The WP RU bloke who created it, helped me last January by adding a Title change qualifier to the State Rep section of the RL part of the box. If I notate "yes" in the line "sooteam pre-1980=yes" then the title for that section should say "State Rep" and if I notate "no" , then title should be "State of Origin". This qualifier now seems to no longer be effective. See Kevin Ryan or Ken Kearney. Could you have a look ? And would you know how to do this ? -Sticks66 12:30, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. Sorted. Sticks66 13:25, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Peer review for Adelaide Rams

Hi,

Would you be able to copyedit/peer review Adelaide Rams.

I have significantly improved the status of the article over the past few days and would like to get it to Good Article status.

It would be greatly appreciated if you would do this. Thanks.  The Windler talk  06:53, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi Windler - I've taken a quick peek at the article and would be happy to give it a good run-through. It looks interesting. I'll warn you that I'm not great with wikitables, so I will work on the assumption they are properly formatted and the information is correct. I figure it will take me a couple of hours to do a review and thorough copy edit; I'll put any questions onto the talk page of the article. I am tied up for the next few nights (darn this real life!), so won't get to it until Friday evening or Saturday morning Eastern (North American) time - is that acceptable to you? Risker (talk) 18:24, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Yeah that's fine. May I suggest for the review/questions part that you place them on the Peer review page, as to better organise the reviews. But if you'd prefer the talk page, its fine by me. Also, I am more worried about the prose text than the tables, so thats fine too.  The Windler talk  23:13, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
No problem, the peer review page it is. Risker (talk) 23:15, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi Windler - I wanted to let you know that I have (finally) completed the copy edit and peer review of this article. My sincere apologies for the delay; I won't make any excuses except to say I bit off more than I could chew. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions about my edits or my comments. Risker (talk) 04:56, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, it was greatly appreciated. I hope to do some work on it and hope to get to GA level soon. Thanks again.  The Windler talk  04:59, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
