Kolowrat portrait

The uploaded picture File:Johann Kolowrat.jpg is an early 19th century print. I'm 99% certain that it belongs to a genre of portraits of Napoleonic era (1792-1815) generals made in the same or following generation. If I could find the artist and date, I would provide that data. The website that I linked to does indeed have the picture, but I should have provided the entire path which is, http://www.napoleon-online.de/AU_Generale/html/kolowrat.html. There are already scores of these prints on wikipedia. Here's another example of an image that was not uploaded by me: File:Général Gabriel Jean Joseph Molitor.jpg. There is no background information yet it is in the Commons. While we are on the subject, I have come across images on wikipedia that I suspect are not in the public domain. Here's an example, File:Battle of the Bridge of Arcole.jpg of a map that was placed by someone else in an article largely written by me. I saw your note at my talk page. I edited File:Johann Kolowrat.jpg and changed the license tag to PD-old, Author to unknown, and Permissions to Early to mid-19th Century print. There is a commons tag that I left alone because I don't understand it. The person who put the map in the Arcole article seems like an OK guy and I'm sure it was an honest mistake. Sphilbrick, saw your re-post of Yoxi. But you said it still has "a long way to go"--can you elaborate? It was flagged first for being promotional--but then I trimmed it to being strictly factual. Then it was flagged for being not notable, yet I included hyperlinks to stories in Slashfood, Mashable and TheSan Francisco Chronicle. GOOD magazine is a content partner. Hello, thank you for your outside view.

I am working on all my articles, but as you know most wiki contributors come here on their free time. I don't have time to participate in an AFD discussion, I can however beef up secondary references for all the articles. The problem with secondary references is that they lack the information needed to be referenced, for example Play-Asia and NCSX are strong secondary references but they won't have the release date. If you are more active i'd appreacide you discussing for me in the afd while I expand my articles in a more wikifiable way. It is very demotivating working on something which might get deleted.

Targeted articles include Senile Team ngdevteam sturmwind.

AFAIK

I would like to inquire what "housekeeping" reason supported the CSD G6 deletion of the page? Looking at the history, it was tagged DB "no page", which is basically A3. But the page was a WP:Soft Redirect prior to the tagging. And soft redirects are expressly not subject to A# deletions. So that should not be the reason for it's deletion. But I can think of no other housekeeping reason for deletion a valid, functional soft redirect. - TexasAndroid (talk) 18:38, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Jan Sophus Jansen article submission

Dear Sphilbrick,

I received your feedback and appreciate your insights. I did find a Wikipedia article on the song "Yon Yonson" (the phonetic spelling of the name), so I thought that I would tailor this new article to highlight the probable author and subject of the song.

I've shorten the article, eliminating many of the ancestral information with the goal of providing a brief summary of who Jan Jansen was with respect to the song.

Seek & Destroy page move

I just wanted to drop you a note to let you know you should not have preformed the deletion/pagemove of Seek & Destroy (Metallica song) to Seek & Destroy. By doing so you separated the talk pages of the two articles, as well as deleted a page history that was required to be kept since Seek & Destroy had been merged into another article. That was noted in the page history as well as the talk page's history, so you know where to look in the future. Generally if you aren't sure what you are doing, don't do page moves that involve deletion, particularly if you are separating the talk page and article. It can be very hard (or even impossible, if a page restoration is preformed as well) to fix mistakes made in that process. Quick Kill is an example of breaking the page history in an unfixable way, such I mentioned above. Perhaps it can be recovered from cached versions. I'll see what I can do. If you could refrain from deleting pages and moving other pages on top of them, that would perhaps be a good idea. Prodego ^talk 23:33, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

Happily I was able to fix Quick Kill, unhappily it was only by checking every diff manually to see which page it should have been on. What happened with Quick Kill is that you (I believe unintentionally) ended up preforming a history merge between the diambig page that was at Quick Kill, and the page for the APS - Quick Kill active protection system. After a history merge the page history contains entries from both pages history, and there is no way to separate which page each edit was made to except by looking at each revision and guessing. This will always happen when you restore a page when a page already exists on top of it. For both Quick Kill and Seek & Destroy you ended up separating the talk page and its article. When pages are moved the talk page should be moved with them, which does not happen automatically if the target page has to be deleted. I've fixed this for both pages as well. For WDDZ (AM). First step is going to be to look at the history of both pages, and both their talk pages. If the destination page has a substantial history, you should check several things. Make sure the page being moved isn't and was never (check the first history revision) a fork or cut and paste of the destination page. If it is a cut and paste a history merge (and likely a messy one) must be preformed. On WDDZ (AM) there is only one revision in the history, and no revisions on the talk page. So we are good to make a move. Step 2 is to delete the destination page and its talk page. The link to delete and move is nice, but I wouldn't suggest using it because then you will have to move the talk page separately. After deleting both pages, move the remaining page and its talk page to the new name. If you get confused at any point it will always be fairly easy to ask for help and to undo everything done unless you restore a page when there is another page at the same title. As long you avoid doing that, you should be fairly safe. Prodego ^talk 00:15, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

I'm happy with it so far, but haven't done a lot with it. I'm reading a book on it, and using it to supplement my WP work. It's nice for multi-tasking; sitting on the couch, half watching TV and catching up on email or checking something out. I haven't taken it out of the house yet, so haven't had a chance to see how it works off my network. I did try to access one of my maps in Google, and it failed, so I'm disappointed in that, although maybe I'm doing something wrong. Nice screen image, but haven't used it for a movie yet. Don't feel bad, refs are tricky. Until you get used to them, then they are easy, but until then, they can be tough. BTW, if you look at the code now to see what I have done, be aware I'm using a relatively new approach called WP:LDR citation style. Many editors haven't yet heard of it, but I think it makes the editable screen cleaner, so I like it. You sort of had four refs, but I think there was a duplicate, if I excised anything in error, let me know , and I'll fix it and or help you so you can learn. Thought you might like to know

Hi! I just came across Jeremiah Palecek which you deleted as a copyvio of http://wikibin.org/articles/jeremiah-palecek.html. While Wikibin is only licensed under the GFDL and so would normally be a copyright violation, all of their content is taken from deleted Wikipedia pages. Because of this, articles copied from there are usually G4 targets, or if they have been improved and are no longer G4-able then their history can be restored to provide attribution and avoid the copyvio problem. Jan Sophus Jansen: recent edit

Dear Sphilbrick, I had made some modifications to the Jan Sophus Jansen page I was working on, and was wondering if you've had a chance to review it? The modifications were basically:

* Made the page more of a biography of Jan Jansen (eliminating much of the ancestral references)
* Added hyper-links to other Wikipedia pages (including the "Yon Yonson" page)

I believe he is noteworthy due to the fact that he is the probable author and subject of a fairly well known American folk song (simple as it may be). He is also (phonitically) named in:

* Kurt Vonegut's "Slaughterhouse Five" novel
* Calvin Klein's "Altered Stated" perfume commercial
* The Canadian band "The Dave Howard Singers" feature him in their cover song.
* The children's band "Ralph's World" feature him in one of their songs
* The video game "Psychonauts" reference him in their video game
* Numurous children's song books tell the "Jan Jansen" story

Please let me know what else might be required for submission. I will then work on getting the "Manual of Style" perfected.

I'm missing something ... Yeah, and me too.

Nothing's ever simple, is it! Over time, Jackytar has uploaded a large number of non-free images to Commons and en:WP, marking them as "own work". I put "fair-use" on some of them, and created "fair-use" copies of others. Zscout370 has been making free-use .svg versions. Thus, I've been adding G7 to the non-free ones I uploaded. Seems I've been sloppy, and also added G7 to some of those uploaded by Jackytar. I guess they need a different tag. Heidi (opossum)

A little while ago, you speedily deleted Opossum Heidi, which indeed had no assertion of notability at the time. I was attempting to find references for it when you did so, though, and the subject has apparently been mentioned in several news articles. (I did not create the original article) I'm still not sure if it's notable, so I made a user subpage with the referenced stub as I rewrote it at User:Opus 113/Heidi (opossum), so that you (or any admin, I suppose) can look it and decide whether to speedily delete it again or move it to mainspace (after removing the header note I put there, and probably at Heidi (opossum) rather than its original title). I would be fine with either of these outcomes, but I thought I should just show you a referenced version of the page, without recreating it as an article yet, so that you can decide the issue of notability based on a referenced and slightly expanded version of the article. There are two issues:

1. I'm not convinced the article meets the Notability requirements. While you added five references, two are facebook, and one is not independent of the subject. I will not unilaterally delete an article that "simply" fails notability, but please be forewarned, that it may get sent to WP:AfD, where a consensus will be reached. It might survive in its present form, but it would surprise me.
2. We have formal procedures to ensure that permission to use material under copyright exists. Please see Donating copyrighted materials, in particular, the section titled "Granting us permission to copy material already online". This is the existing article on weight loss in the aspartame controversy article.

Weight change and hunger

Since the caloric contribution of aspartame is negligible, it has been used as a means for weight loss. Although some individual studies have suggested that aspartame contributes to weight gain and obesity as well as increases hunger,[4] comprehensive reviews on this subject have concluded there is little to no data to support the assertion that aspartame adversely affects hunger or obesity.[4][47][49]

I would like to add the following .

Conventional wisdom says that any substance that replaces sugar must contribute to weight loss. It now appears that artifical sweeteners may contribute to weight gainWeight gain may occur even without increased food intake

I am sure it will be deleted. Do you aggree with the delition?

Done. I can't totally reconstruct what happened, but there were two requests. I deleted one, and did not do the other one, because the second one was a talk archive. Hi SPhilbrick, here's the thread from my talk page history and here's the very same thread from my archive. Am I missing something? Does it have to be in both places only because sv decided it is time to harass me? There are many more messages in my archive that you restored by her request that are in my talk page history. You may not be missing anything. However, it is my understanding that we handle deletions of user talk pages differently than we do other user pages. Or to put it differently, we allow users to request deletions of their own user space pages when they are the only material contributor, but talk pages, almost always, include the contributions of others, so want to take care deleting them. It may be as simple as proposing them for deletion at MfD, at which time someone can verify that no history is lost, but we do not want to use the speedy delete process. I undeleted the page, not because I'm interested in helping someone harass someone, but because I should not have deleted it in the first place.--SPhilbrickT 22:26, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

I am not talking about my talk page now. I am talking about my archive. According to this "archives created by page move are generally not deleted" (highlighted by me). I just showed to you an example of two the same posts from my archive and my talk page history. You have done right to delete it.
