Bangalore Peer reivew part deux[edit]

Sundar,

The Bangalore peer review is in its final phase...a lot of work has been done to revamp the article and I like the way it stands as of now. I wanted to thank you for your continued support and contributions in improving the quality of the article. I am working on minor touch-ups, as necessary, and should be in a position to nominate it for FAC tomorrow (2/20). If you have a few minutes at your disposal, could you please give the article one last review before the FAC nomination? Thanks a bunch! AreJay 03:35, 20 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bangalore Peer review[edit]

Hello Sundar, A peer-review for the Bangalore article is currently under way. I invite you to please provide your thoughts and valuable insight to help improve the quality of the article before we push the article for a FA nomination. Details of recent work done to consolidate and clean-up the article can be found on Talk:Bangalore ("To-do List"). Thanks! AreJay 18:55, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Puraana nooru[edit]

Hi Sundar, are you sure that the Tamil spelling is "புறநானூறு"? Should it not be "புறாணனூறு"? Regards, ImpuMozhi 07:31, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I had put a hyphen in the article to indicate this, now I wrote it as two words. It would be better if someone who knows Tamil keeps looking over my shoulder. Can you please take a look at the years in Sangam. It seems to mix up (possible) facts and legends. Tintin Talk 13:08, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Re. Sankara Nethralaya, thanks. Since everyone thinks that it is notable enough, I'll have to change my standards the next time. Tintin Talk 13:08, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the clarification champ -- you rule! Some random thoughts: perhaps "புறநானூறு" translates to "wise 400" or something better to that effect, being related to the Tamil word for "sense/understanding" rather than "town/external". Secondly, to suggest that there is a double 'na' in the spelling and that the word is spelled "புறநான்னூறு". Do you think either of this is likely? best regards, ImpuMozhi 23:08, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My humble sAshtAngams. I seem to have found a replacement for my late and much-beloved granduncle, vis-a-vis a source for some pure Tamil. You may have guessed, my Tamil approximates to zilch, and my Telugu/Kannada are not really so much better. If you don't think the question impertinent, can you let me know your age? I ask, given the general lament that the younger generation is just not up to it in our languages, if you know what I mean. btw, what is 'AFIK'? ImpuMozhi 04:52, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Happy Pongal to you Sundar. Every happiness and much prosperity in the year ahead. ImpuMozhi 16:11, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

I created or copied and reworded - the tiniest of the tiniest stubs (hahahha), but each we can develop to a reasonable size. Few weeks before, I had created a number of them: I will make each one of them at least a stub of 2 or 3 paragraphs. It is the encouragement from people like you which gives me "inspration". I wish you and your family happy Pongal. --Bhadani 12:56, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please help elevating this article to featured status by copyediting. Nichalp seems to be too busy and he advised me to ask you. Also see the peer review page for recommendations and suggestions.--May the Force be with you! Shreshth91($ |-| r 3 $ |-| t |-|) 15:36, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

FAC[edit]

Hi Sundar, I wanted to let you know that Political integration of India is now FAC. I hope you will have some time to consider the work and give it an up or down vote. Please don't see this as solicitation of your support - I'm requesting your participation. Thanks! Rama's Arrow 04:26, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

Hey Sundar, may be you can help clarify this question I've had (and not just on Wikipedia) for a while. Why is it that the Tamil script always puts the vowel after the consonant sound rather than before it? I'm sorry I don't know how to type in the Tamil script, but I'm referring to the revert change you made on the Chennai page on someone who had tried to re-arrange. Just curious... - Cribananda 05:25, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Cribananda

Thanks, Sundar. I'm not doing anything substantial on wikipedia at the moment because I'm quite preoccupied with finishing off my doctoral dissertation. I'll try to keep an eye on this article, though, to make sure it doesn't go too far off-base. -- Arvind 12:30, 25 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sundar - I know you're busy but I hope you'll have some time to check out this article which I've expanded and put on review. I hope to make it an FA (would be great to have one for India's archaeology!). Would really appreciate your advice. Happy R-Day (and 76th anniversary of independence)! Anon IP causing issues[edit]

Hi Sundar There's someone from 67.174.232.187 that's causing a lot of problems on a few articles (Bharatanatyam, Tamil language, Srinivasa Ramanujan and the like). Do you know who I should contact to have him/ her blocked? Thanks. - Cribananda 04:33, 26 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Got the issue taken care of, thanks. Somebody who had something very personal against the Tamils :-). -Cribananda 05:27, 26 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sundar, do you know if this institute is notable ? It was listed on AfD on suspicion of copyvio and then got speedied a few minutes later. If it is notable, sending it through AfD again may get it converted to atleast a decent stub. Tintin (talk) 03:25, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Towns[edit]

Hi, I noticed that you were interested in Tamil Nadu towns. I'm not sure which part of Tamil Nadu you're from, but i recently created the article for Nazareth in thoothukudi district. In the long shot that you are from the area, I was wondering if you had any pictures of thoothukudi district. I am quite new to wikipedia and if you could check out the article and give me any tips they will be highly appreciated.

Thanks,

Regarding "Chennai" entry[edit]

"rv insertion of image of unclear copyright status, other POV" was unwarranted: please check again, see that the image has a clear GNU status, and kindly restore the image in the Chennai page.

Images of politicians[edit]

Malayalee sari[edit]

Sundar, thanks for putting that pretty picture in the Sari article. Should we put Malayalee in the list of sari styles? That looks like a Balampuram sari to me, but I don't know a lot about it. Is Balampuram a subset of Malayalee?

Any other pictures of sari styles available? We really really need more pictures for that article. Just pics of the saris themselves, showing part of the body and pallu, would be nice, as we could make them smaller. If you're the photographer and you have female relatives with nice sari collections, just ask them if you can immortalize their best saris! Zora 23:49, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My Afd vote[edit]

Hi Stifle. Can you please reconsider your vote at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/V. Kalyanasundaram in light of recently available references establishing notability? -- Sundar \talk \contribs 04:27, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The debate was closed (early) before I could get to this. Thanks for your message. Stifle 11:43, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sundar. Can you take a look at the debate about the use of the Tamil script to write Sanskrit on Talk:Tamil script, and at the changes made by User:209.180.28.6? I'm afraid I've lost my cool sufficiently to no longer be capable of being objective about this matter and, besides, I'm also terribly short of time at the moment. Thanks. -- Arvind 11:59, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Disambig edit on Tamil people[edit]

Hi. Dropped by to tell that I reverted this edit because, it is not appropriate in that instance. Thanks. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 05:26, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

Hi Sundar, thanks for your input. If you think the disambiguation I did wasn't the right one, then you're probably right. However, as it stands now, the link goes to a disambiguation page, namely Tamil, which is something to be avoided. Do you think that that is appropriate here?--Deville (Talk) 14:16, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re:PII criticism[edit]

Hi Sundar - I too was very suprised at ImpuMozhi's so-called critique. I have taken care to extensively document his own flaws, contradictions and the baseless nature of his claims, but I want to tackle any genuine problem properly. Do you see any genuine problems in the article related to ImpuMozhi's criticism? (I made corrections regarding the "Instruments of accession" subsection and "privy purse"). Thanks, Rama's Arrow 21:28, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lothal help[edit]

Hi Sundar - Lothal is very close to FAC. If/When you have time, can you please take a look at it and give me your advice? My main concern are the FU images: is it acceptable for an FA to carry 5-6 FU images? Rama's Arrow 13:03, 21 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

9 out of 21 images in the article are FU. 1 is a book cover, so more acceptable. I have given an explicit FU rationale for using them, but for the FAC, I think will drop a few of those images. As a general note, I've seen FAs with FU images so I think its basically ok unless you're over-reliant on them. I'm looking at starting FAC on Feb 25.
