"typo" corrections

Just a reminder that correcting "typos" in file names is a bad idea, because then the image won't display unless and until the change is reverted or the file moved. I know that, but sometimes you do not notice it is a "File:" or "Image:". It would help if "File:", etc., where highlighted in a different colour, rather than being greay like everything else.

Invitation to workshops on editing Wikipedia

Dear Tabletop,

We are a team of researchers at the University of Oxford and AU Sharjah, researching the experiences of editors of content about the Arab world on Wikipedia. We are interested in your experiences of editing Wikipedia and are organising two events that we think you would be an excellent contributor to.

First, we are hosting an online wiki focus group about contributing to Wikipedia in Arabic and to articles about the Middle East and North Africa. We are interested in what barriers you perceive to exist in Wikipedia, how articles can be made better and generally what can be done to expand and improve Arabic Wikipedia and Wikipedia articles about the Arab world. This discussion will take place on a MediaWiki hosted at our institution and be available in English and Arabic. We will allow users to create their own discussion pages in addition to our discussions.

Second, we are hosting face-to-face workshops in Cairo from 21st-22nd October 2012. If you are interested in this we should be able to pay travel and accommodation costs for up to twenty participants. This workshop will cover similar themes to the online discussion but will allow participants to meet one another and benefit from being together.

We will take care of the organization and planning and all you have to do is show up and be ready to discuss. But if you would like to help shape some of the discussion themes in advance, please let us know. We have booked time in the workshops for Wikipedian-led discussions.

Nomenclature

• Nomenclature - one uses that term anymore - all Australian bodies use geographic names
• Anecdotal stuff like the terms you have placed in there are as confusing as the previous article - 'Transcontinental' was a term used for the Adelaide to Perth line - unless you come up with a good WP:RS I see no help to an uninformed reader getting confused with a different railway line name which is not used

This would suggest that Fulfill is more likely to be correct.

This is not an issue of one being correct and the other being wrong. They are both correct spellings used in different parts of the world: see "American and British English spelling differences" and "Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Spelling". Therefore, you should not change one to the other without checking if the article has been written in American or British English. Armagh railway accident- "Trial" section

You added this section in August 2011. It reports 6 railway employees to have been convicted, which seemed plausible, if unjust in the way suggested. However, the references given are Australian newspaper reports of the verdicts brought in by the coroner's jury at the inquest, which aren't guilty verdicts at a criminal trial. Inquests are/were fact-finding, and verdicts such as 'manslaughter' were (in the 19th century) findings by the jury of the charges which they believed should be brought against the persons named. The named persons would not have been convicted unless/until found guilty at a subsequent (adversarial; higher standard of proof required) criminal trial. (This would not automatically result; the Railway Inspectorate had a very low opinion (which was sometimes heeded)of the ability of coroner's juries to reach the right conclusions, thinking them too easily led (in the absence of RI guidance) to blame the workers who made the actual mistakes that killed people and to overlook deeper problems higher up the chain which put them in a position to make lethal mistakes.) (On the evidence reported by the Railway Inspectorate, even today there would seem to be little chance of a successful prosecution of company officers for anything other than breaches of the Health and Safety at Work Act; whilst the accident could have been prevented by an automatic brake system it occurred because of multiple failures of junior employees to do their job properly)Rjccumbria (talk) 23:02, 21 December 2012 (UTC)

Spellcheck filenames

The following edit [1] made a "spelling correction" to to a File:name link, thus breaking the link. Such a correction would need making both on Commons and in the Wiki in order to work. You can request the rename of a File itself by going to the file, (such as commons:File:TokyoMetro-N19-Akabane-iwabuchi-station-platfrom.jpg, and clicking move in the top-right of the screen (where the edit and history buttons are also). This will bring up a wizard, which you can scroll through to give the new name and a reason (eg. "correct spelling of "platform"). Bolivar revisited

Greetings! I've just noticed The Port Pirie broad gauge line on List of closed Adelaide railway stations. It asserts there were stations at Direk, Bolivar, Virginia, Two Wells. As the current Bolivar crossing loop is a stone's throw from Virginia, it makes me wonder where the old Bolivar station was. Do you have any thoughts, ideas or information? IIRC, one end of the Bolivar crossing loop was at the former level crossing at Taylors Road, which limited the length of the loop to 1200m. When this xing was replaced by an overbridge, the loop was able to be extended to the standard 1800m. Tabletop (talk) 21:17, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

The ASG by size and clearances was bigger (in relation to the Swan View Tunnel), but the actual safety issues were played up by trade unions who wanted to make their mark on the political climate of the time, the other garratts had no known safety issues that were addressed at the ASG royal commission. Reverting your change

Hi, I have reverted your change breif into brief in the article on George Joye as it was reflecting original sixteenth century spelling and was not a typo.
