December 2023[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm AgisdeSparte. I wanted to let you know that one of your recent contributions—specifically this edit to Ghost (game)—has been undone because it appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Help desk. Thank you. AgisdeSparte (talk) 17:15, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please explain, in detail, why it appears to be promotional.
The addition was made because this Wiki page does not clearly outline how the game of Ghost should be played. The title of this Wikipedia entry underscores 'game' in its very title: "Ghost(game)". This would raise in the mind of the reader the obvious question: How do I play this game? The external link I added does, however, explain the rules quite plainly. It was found via a simple Google search for how to play the game called Ghost. Tele76 (talk) 17:27, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You seem to be finding yourself at swingtradesystems.com every time you perform a simple Google search about games. This market trading site is no kind of authority on how to play word games, and from the pages I've looked at is getting the rules wrong.
Please stop adding links to this site. Belbury (talk) 17:31, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Belbury, I now see what you mean. This site's root url (i.e., its index.html) indicates it is primarily a site about market trading and not one about word games (which are housed in a separate folder). The site thus holds authoritative value with the former subject, but not with the latter subject. I also believe Google treats site architecture that way as well. Thank you for the clarification. Information icon Hello, Tele76. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Belbury (talk) 17:21, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I originally was made aware of the word games website I've linked to today a few times from wikipedia many years ago. I have no affiliation to it, other than reading it once in awhile for fun. Had some spare time today and thought I'd try to enhance a few pages on Wikipedia using it, as I find it to be helpful. Word puzzles and game pages are often marked as 'Stubs' or there is a message that pleads with the community to enhance the page. That's what I tried to do. Evidently my efforts are not appreciated at best, or deemed to be self-serving (aka 'promotional').
Maybe I was flagged by an algothrim and am now talking to an AI computer program, or you are indeed a real person. Which ever it is, I think you just lost a contributor, and possibly a user of Wikipedia. Good day. Tele76 (talk) 17:40, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you insert a spam link, as you did at Matheme. Persistent spammers may have their websites blacklisted, preventing anyone from linking to them from all Wikimedia sites as well as potentially being penalized by search engines.

I'm a real person who's been checking your edits, and nearly all of them have been adding links to swingtradesystems.com. A self-published book is not considered to be a reliable source by Wikipedia. --Belbury (talk) 19:09, 16 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
