Lumière University Lyon 2[edit]

Hello. I kindly invite you to contribute to the discussion of the proper rendering into English of the name of Université Lumière Lyon 2. The unfortunate issue here is that the person who wrote the English language pages for the university's website chose an unidiomatic rendering: University Lumière Lyon 2. In general, when X is a proper name, X University is the idiomatic form, and University X is never idiomatic. When X is the name of a place, one can say University of X, but in this case Lumière is not a place name. Also, maintaining the French name is not an option, as English names are called for in the English-language Wikipedia. The current name for the article is as close as possible to the name used on the university's own English-language website while being idiomatically correct: the word University is simply moved from before the name Lumière to after it. However, it is not the only possible solution, and so your suggestions on other ways to name this article in an idiomatically-correct English are most welcome. --MyPOV (talk) 07:04, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
