Deletion of List of LGBT composers

Hi TheOperaGuy, thanks for your note on my talk page. It looks like you didn't participate in the discussion that led to the deletion of the list, which you can find here: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of LGBT composers. The discussion established that Category:LGBT composers would serve the same function as the list. If you take a look at Category:LGBT composers, most of the people who appeared on the list are now members of the category. Some composers who were in the list did not get included in the category, because there was no citation for a reliable source that established they were L, G, B, or T. Since you're new here, you may not be aware, but you have to have good sourcing to state that someone's sexual preference is X, Y, or Z, otherwise other editors will freak out on you.

As for the reasons you state for keeping the list, they boil down to the fact that it was useful to you, and might be to others. I agree that having an easy way to find out about LGBT composers is a good thing, and hopefully Category:LGBT composers does that. You can also see a (temporary) copy of the list at User:SatyrTN/List of LGBT composers. You're free to copy the information there and use it as you wish, as long as you do not recreate the list on Wikipedia. You make a very good point about the category system being difficult to use for newcomers. I didn't know that they don't show up on searches! I wish that argument had been made in the deletion discussion. I'll have to give some thought into how we can make the category system more accessible to readers.

I don't know the vocal literature very well, especially for baritones, so I'd be curious to learn what you select for your program.
