Scholarships.com[edit]

Hello and Good Morning, I would like to understand why this page was deleted. It was nominated for "speedy deletion" by another admin and contested. I asked for guidance to edit and edify the article to meet Wikipedia's standards. Scholarships.com is an entity and has been referenced in hundreds of articles. Everything in the entry was properly supported. What am I missing? I would appreciate any guidance you can offer so that I will be successful in creating and editing articles in Wikipedia. Yateesh M Acharya[edit]

Not sure why this page is deleted. The artist has a long history and a good fan following. Apart from that he also has albums released from notable music labels. 103.193.25.22 (talk) 14:43, 10 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Old Thorntonians F.C. yesterday.

Good morning, Firstly I would like to apologise for entering incorrect information to Wikipedia, I obviously did not understand the criteria for being allowed a page.

Is there any way I can edit the page to allow it to be published? The club is a descendant of Sir Henry Thornton school, which was an elite grammar school in Clapham, London that was used as an emergency hospital during WW2 and as such was bombed, and our football club remained going strong keeping the name and memory of this school alive for years to come. Does this not count as a significant importance?

WHAT HAPPENS?[edit]

Why do you insist on deleting a simple profile page of Edwin Mike Kaprat III who was died in 1995 ? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edwin_%22Mike%22_Kaprat) You did not even read my protest. The is a thousand pages of Serial Killers profiles on Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_serial_killers_in_the_United_States. Non-free rationale for File:Parsons and naylor.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Parsons and naylor.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 22:00, 16 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

WHAT?[edit]

Hallo, you did not even read my protest for the remove of Hermie and Friends: Afrikaans. Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by JakesOnTheGo (talkcontribs)

Jaws[edit]

You pushed the demoted Jaws (film) to GA status. Given my recent uphaul of the article, can you take a look at it and possibly copyedit, so it can reach FA status again? Thanks. igordebraga 05:20, 6 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Thanks for your improvements to the article. I think someone complained at FAR that the article omitted the scholarly criticism, which I've been meaning to add. To be honest, I don't think I can be bothered with the FA process. It's a lot of work for little gain (including for the reader), especially when the regulars struggle to offer constructive criticism in the spirit of collaboration. I gave up on FAC when a reviewer on my last FAC criticised (in the most condescending way possible) grammatical errors that he had introduced! I'll happily collaborate on the article, but I won't play the FAC games. The JPStalk to me 13:02, 6 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. I deal with the nitpickers, just make sure the article is well-written. igordebraga 19:00, 6 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks - I'll even move the political stuff I found on Easy Riders, Raging Bulls and put on the Inspiration and themes section to that! Now I only need replies on the FAC! igordebraga 22:56, 8 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You also deserve some thanks for how Jaws ended up - after all, you're still the third biggest contributor and major cause of it being "OK" before! Let's see if we can improve more film articles (I'm currently too focused on music...) to GA and FA. igordebraga 03:04, 24 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

MSU Interview[edit]

Dear The JPS,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 07:26, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Triage engagement strategy released[edit]

Hey guys!

I'm dropping you a note because you filled out the New Page Patrol survey, and indicated you'd be interested in being contacted about follow-up work. This is to notify you that we've finally released both the initial documentation about the project and also the engagement strategy, which sets out how we plan to work with the community on this. Please give both a read, and leave any comments or suggestions you have on the talkpage, on my talkpage, or in my inbox - okeyes@wikimedia.org.

Annie Hall references[edit]

Sorry if I dropped some references in my edit. I didn't think I cut any, but perhaps I was mistaken. Also, thanks for bringing in the material from Rosenblum's book. --Ring Cinema (talk) 04:30, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your note. Again, sorry if I screwed up that reference. There is a little bit too much maybe from that one book, perhaps. I think we can bring in a variety of sources. What do you think? --Ring Cinema (talk) 22:07, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message on my talk page. Your edit this evening broke another reference. References can be named, such as,[1] so that you can save space and memory if using the same references elsewhere in the article. But, if you delete the defining reference, any subsequent [1] has nothing to refer back to, so will give an ugly red error message. The answer is to check if a named reference is used elsewhere before removing it; if you choose to remove it, then you'll need to find the [1] (the 'find' tool is your friend here) and reinsert the full reference. I think a bot fixes these automatically these days, though. On another note, we need to work on the Themes section. So far we only have one source from a rather amateurish online 'magazine' which has no assertion of notability. There will be plenty of respectable sources out there; Peter Cowie's book, etc. The JPStalk to me 20:10, 5 March 2012 (UTC) But you've done exactly the same thing again! The JPStalk to me 11:17, 6 March 2012 (UTC) I agree that a variety of references are helpful. As a compromise, I have removed the Rosenblum one from that claim, keeping Baxter and NYT (although the NYT is a respectable source, book sources generally have more prestige). The reference currently named "Annie" covered a range of pages -- these should be sorted so that the specific page numbers are used. But, I really think we need to develop the 'themes' section, as it doesn't look very good to ignore a range of established scholars in favour of a non-established website. The JPStalk to me 11:22, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

If it's okay with you, we can discuss here. I monitor your talk page now.

On Themes.... I have worked on this before and I was somewhat surprised, especially given the film's age, to find little said. One problem is that Allen's themes are more often taken up than the themes of a particular film; that doesn't work so well for us, unfortunately. To be fair, his themes are more obvious when comparing films, so it's logical. --Ring Cinema (talk) 14:00, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Probably best to discuss it at Talk:Annie Hall to help any other editors. I located some scholarly articles this evening via Academic Search Complete. It will take me a while to read and summarise them, though. The JPStalk to me 20:42, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Secret in Their Eyes[edit]

It's unfortunate that you weren't careful to do all the reading before you offered an opinion. Perhaps it is difficult for you to recognize that I was offering neutral language. That's a skill you should work on. As it is, you just got it wrong. Next time you can probably do better if you really work at it. --Ring Cinema (talk) 21:11, 13 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

For the benefit of other readers, Ring Cinema's (John?) above message is (presumably) in response to this message that I left on his talk page, which he immediately removed. My message drew his attention to WP:AGF and WP:OWN, particularly with reference to his misuse of the term 'vandalism'.
In response to the above message: my concern is not so much the content dispute at The Secret in Their Eyes, but the multiple reverts and rhetoric. You manage to employ this combative rhetoric several times within such a short post above: "perhaps it is difficult for you..."; "a skill you should work on"; "you just got it wrong"; "you can probably do better if you really work at it". Is there really any need to be so condescending? I note other editors have previously objected to your personal attacks. The JPStalk to me 21:55, 13 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Who is condescending? I think it might be you. --Ring Cinema (talk) 22:37, 13 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

the scope and meaning of 'production'[edit]

Please reconsider[edit]

Hi. Not wishing to wheel-war, I am requesting reconsideration of a speedy deletion you made. You speedy deleted 1983 America's Cup: The End of an Era as a newly created implausible redirect. Actually, this was not exactly a newly created typo. An article had existed under that name for nearly a year; a few hours ago I merged it and redirected the title. It was a long article; there may be some content in the article history that I didn't pick up and would be of use to somebody. Additionally, the title isn't altogether implausible. Googling the title, I find not only links to the Wikipedia article, but also a reference to a movie, artwork, a blog post, and possibly a few other items with essentially this name. --Orlady (talk) 20:34, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

sucu sucu (song) article deleted..[edit]

Dear The JPS,

First I will say that I am sorry if I don't write at the right place.. Please redirect me if so..

Second, I would like to discuss the fact that the sucu sucu (song) article I wrote has been deleted yesterday. I want to protest because it has been sung by different artists in 14 different countries. You rejected my article because there were no notable artists who sing it but that is not true:

Laurie Johnson has a Wikipedia article in 4 different languages and has done the theme of the series “top secret” from the sucu sucu song. The english wikipedia article EVEN talk about the sucu sucu song that made her enter the UK charts...

Brita Koivunen has a Wikipedia article in 5 different languages and is sold on Amazon and musicme.

Alberto Cortez has a Wikipedia article in 4 different languages. He is sold on every music website and has millions hits on YouTube.

Maria Zamora’s music is sold on amazon.com and has a place on imdb.com

Tarateno Rojas has 1 wikipedia article and 1 imdb.com article. He is also on allmusic.com

Los Matecoco are sold on I-tunes, Amazon and many other websites

Bob Azzam has a Wikipedia article in 8 different languages and is sold on musicme, Amazon. He is also present on Deezer.

And all the artists I have named without exception are present on discogs.com... I admit that my article wasn’t very well presented and didn’t have many references.. But I can improve it. ANd I am sure that it deserves to be on wikipedia. I am only starting writing articles on Wikipedia in 3 different languages until now.. Thank you for your help!

Kind regards,

Robin

ps: I didn't find the "contest speedy deletion tag" button.. Sorry for that..

From what I recall, your article consisted only of an infobox. It would be better if you could draft a more complete article either offline of in your sandbox before posting it. Don't forget to include references to reliable sources. The JPStalk to me 17:18, 25 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Article restoration[edit]

Could you please consider restoring Rhihole Gbinigie? The speedy deletion was invalid as the person who tagged it 1) was not the original author and 2) even if they had been there were substantial edits by other editors. The same user had tagged it as PROD prior to adding the incorrect CSD tag which would be the way to go if they want to pursue deletion. --Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 14:58, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please reverse your deletion here? I had already declined the G7 deletion as invalid once (too many other editors), and was in the process of declining it a second time. Martin Bros. Dist Article[edit]

Just wondering what it's going to take to not have this article be deleted. There was copy and pasted information from Martin Bros. website but that was just a starting point for me to customize and create my own words and story for them. Can this page please be restored so I can continue working on it? What steps should I take to prevent this from happening again? More links and citations to the facts that I'm referencing? I just don't understand why it's been deleted within a day of creating it. It was no where near complete and it's already been deleted.--Martinbrosdist (talk) 18:21, 15 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. You speedily deleted the page as a recreation of an AfD-deleted article, but the outcome of that AfD was actually to delete as an unsourced BLP, without prejudice against recreation. IIRC the new version wasn't a recreation of the old one; I don't think G4 applies here. --Paul_012 (talk) 22:23, 15 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure if you saw this. I'm not crazy about the article itself, but please reconsider if the deletion process, if you can. Thanks. --Paul_012 (talk) 07:12, 23 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Request to Restore Speedy deletion "El Pussycat ska" for its continued political and historical significance in the British music industry[edit]

This page should not be speedily deleted because this musical group has historical significance relating to the British 2-Tone era and currently is an influential ska jazz fusion group that combines early American RnR/jazz with the Fathers of Ska, and early Jamaican music. (See [[1]])

The band was formed by the saxophonist from the Specials () and has performed on The Tonight Show and toured globally several times. Mr. Stansall has over two decades of experience playing with the Fathers of ska and continues to actively record, interview and recite the history of early Jamaican music and its relation to American and British punk, reggae and rocksteady musical genres. The Speedy Deletion Policy would prematurely wipe out the already sparse information that is available to hardcore ska fans that enjoy music in the vein of Tommy McCook, Rolando Alphonso and Jackie Mittoo, which this band has played shows with.

Please reconsider the restoration of this article so that this author may add references and add to the wealth of information that this Jamaican Jazz group of historical significance has to offer. The violence and crime in the U.K. as well as here in the U.S. are related to each country and it's music, art and political message. In terms of El pussycat, there is an anti-war and theme of political distrust, global peace and the fusion of early rnr with "Jamaican jazz" and American blues of the 1960s Studio One era. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hookedonwax (talkcontribs) 13:02, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Do you have any secondary reliable sources so support your assertions? The link to a Wikipedia article is not admissible, because Wikipedia cannot use itself as verification. Primary sources, such as FaceBook and MySpace, are also not adequate on their own. The JPStalk to me 14:28, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Request to Restore Speedy deletion "Austin goh" for its relevance to current wing chun lineages and living instructors of the traditional branches of the practise[edit]

Please restore article 'Austin Goh', the significance of traditional chinese martial arts and lineages including major international instructors is surely relevant? For example why is there an article on Leung Ting who is an instructor of a slightly different lineage of Wing Chun, yet Austin Goh who is a current Grandmaster of the traditional system cannot have an article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kittensfoot (talkcontribs) 11:47, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Can you support your assertions with references to reliable sources? As for the artciel on Leung Ting; please read: WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. The JPStalk to me 11:56, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have these, this one probably being the most credible http://www.wingchunpedia.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php?n=WCP.AustinGoh and http://www.life-serious-business.co.uk/uncategorized/my-wing-chun-instructor-grand-master-austin-goh/ I should also say that a lot of the culture of Chinese Traditional Martial arts is that of secrecy, and non showmanship, for they do not care for fame or notoriety. Everybody knows Bruce Lee because he was primarily an actor and main public figure, but of the remaining Grandmasters of Wing Chun, they do not care for fame and hence there are fewer references to such people. However wikipedia can be an excellent reference for martial arts if these articles are given more credit. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kittensfoot (talkcontribs) 13:26, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

OK -- how do the two links you give meet the criteria at: WP:RS? The JPStalk to me 13:28, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for not meeting your criteria, as I say it's difficult with the traditional Chinese martial artists. He appeared in July 1999 Combat magazine Vol 25, Num 7 http://ma-mags.com/srchmag.php?SrchFor=Austin%20Goh&SrchHow=all&Search=search amongst others listed on that page. If this is insufficient then I fail to find sufficient proof for you of his existence, notoriety and clear links to the Wing Chun article already within Wikipedia. This is intended to be as accurate as possible for your moderators with the information that is publicly available. Kittensfoot (talk) 14:03, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion review for Austin goh[edit]

An editor has asked for a deletion review of Austin goh. Because you closed the deletion discussion for this page, speedily deleted it, or otherwise were interested in the page, you might want to participate in the deletion review. Kittensfoot (talk) 10:06, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict) Hi JPS. I came across this after responding to a helpdesk request from Kittensfoot. Some possible independent sources that could vouch for notability are this piece from Utusan Online (in Malay, but meets WP:RS and constitutes significant coverage), Peter Lewis' Way to the Martial Arts, Exeter Publications 1988 (no online version, I'm afraid, but uses Goh extensively as an example in the section on Wing Chun) and the episode of TV show "Just Amazing" on which he was featured in 1983 (which, sadly, I can't find online either). That said, although fairly well-known in MA circles in the UK, he's still pretty borderline in terms of Wiki-notability. To save time and effort (since Kittensfoot seems determined to go through Deletion Review), it might be worth restoring the article and putting it through AfD. Your call, though. Cheers, Yunshui  10:17, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Jaws The Revenge - Explode.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:04, 4 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted items :Woolwich by-election, 1903[edit]

Hi The JPS.

An internet friend has expressed sorrow at deletion of what he regards as an historic article. I should say he isn't an editor but has contributed some useful professional quality photos. As I'm interested (I think) in the subject, I'd like to see what can be done to revive it, typically by providing reliable sources, including those possibly not yet in the public domain. For starters, is it possible to let me see the text of the article? Before reinstating anything, I would personally make sure it met quality standards. Regards JRPG (talk) 22:29, 20 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sure; I've put it in your user space: User:JRPG/Woolwich The JPStalk to me 10:04, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! It's great to be working with you on the Annie Hall article! I just rewatched the PBS special, Woody Allen: A Documentary and it has a lot of information we could use for the page. Do you know how I should reference it? ~~ NoD'ohnuts (talk) 00:23, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Why not ... I'm not incredibly happy with the final third of the article, but a peer review would help identify what needs to be done. The JPStalk to me 20:09, 22 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh awesome then, can I ask what you don't like about the final third of the article NoD'ohnuts (talk) 22:16, 24 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Katye Entry[edit]

Dear JPS,

I was just wondering why my Katye entry go deleted and if there is anything I could do to make it a better submission. There is an article on the Washington Post today about it, so I think this would qualify as an independent source. Am I correct?

Thanks in advance for your help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by CHFcommunications (talkcontribs) 13:02, 19 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Your Article for Creation was deleted because it was highlighted as a copyright violation. Much of it appeared to have been directly copied from a website. Fom your user name, it may be the case that you are the author of that material and are willing to donate the material. However, Wikipedia has no way of knowing that, and we do take copyright violations very seriously to protect the original work. It would be best to start a new AFC using new words. The WP link would probably be a very good source. The JPStalk to me 11:29, 20 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Second opinion please?[edit]

This article was just recently created: MangaMagazine. I'm not sure if it's non-notable, an advertisement due to the last section, or exactly what. It's not a published print magazine, but a webzine. Your opinion please? Thanks! Regards, --Manway 22:01, 20 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Mmm, well it's all based on primary sources. Probably could justify it as an A7, but if you're unsure it's often safer to go to PROD or AFD. The JPStalk to me 22:05, 20 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I'll PROD it. Appreciate the look. --Manway 22:22, 20 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of wiki page Business School PAR -explanation[edit]

Dear , I really cannot see how this article is seen as an advert, as non of it is marketing or promo material - it is factual. Should you see this in a different light, please point out the parts that you see as arguable?! I must point out that this page is similar as ours, and it is approved: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zagreb_School_of_Economics_and_Management

It appears that User:StephenBuxton has already explained the issues with this article, and offered advice regarding WP:WORD. The nature of open editing means that there is a lot of substandard content on Wikipedia. See WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. The presence of one breach of guidelines does not excuse another. The original article submitted was deleted due to copyright issues. A new article has been submitted at the suggested temporary page. I have followed the steps below - but have yet to receive a response it the article will be accepted or still needs work.

"If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at this temporary page. Requesting image undeletion[edit]

File:Jerry Lewis and family - 1956.jpg was speedily deleted for incorrect reasons. I would have replied on the image page, but it was deleted too quickly to respond. I assume the reason was as the original tagger stated, "clearly invalid licensing tag." However, that is obviously not the case for this type of image for many reasons:

A posed photo of a well-known celebrity is typically done for publicity, as explained in film still. Such publicity-type photos were also typically given out to the media, either in press kits or directly. The photo was the subject of sourced commentary. And at worst, as the F7 rules provide, a Subst:dfu could have been more properly added to allow for a more detailed Non-free fair use rationale. Prof. Steve Hall and Prof. Simon Winlow[edit]

This is Prof. Steve Hall here.

I have been alerted to incidents of vandalism, rudeness etc. on pages concerning myself and my colleague Prof. Winlow. Neither of us really wanted these pages to be put up in the first place. I have spoken to Prof. Winlow about this. We know the ex-students who put them up and, not being too taken by the Wikipedia site in general, expressed our reluctance at the time, although we are flattered that they should choose to do this on our behalf. However, we will not be associated with rudeness and bad feeling. Therefore I am taking the pages down. I'm not sure how Wikipedia works, but if anyone in any official capacity gets this message please remove all trace of these pages. If you requitre authentication of my identity, please email me at Teesside University. Thank you in anticipation for your time. --Prof Steve Hall (talk) 20:31, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Id do anything for love (single).jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Id do anything for love (single).jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful.

Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:24, 30 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Baddielandskinnerunplanned.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Baddielandskinnerunplanned.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 17:07, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Personal attacks[edit]

I know that usually admins get things wrong, so I'm sure you won't do anything about this, but allow me to point out that my comments were factual and you have said nothing to anyone who attacked me personally. He's always right JPS so it's not worth even bothering to speak to him...♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:19, 20 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Who should be spoken to is the WP community that if you want to bully and insult people then it best be done elsewhere. This has never been an issue about "personal attacks" toward Ring Cinema's but that person's strategy in developing articles. Years ago when I found my hair cutter, a college educated professional from the Shah's Iran that when she came to the US via two other countries she did not speak English. For some reason she started asking me about sayings that her customers would chat to her about. We both would get a laugh out of she learning the naughty ones her American customers would say and she would tell me the equivalents in Persian. But, it does not take much to understand that someone played the wrong card(s). When the pot has gone to the winning hand you very well cannot take back your bid in order to change the outcome. And, remember that they do say that the loudest statement of fact can be the silence that follows a faux pas. There can be only so many times that an opportunity is extended, if merely by silence, for one to save face when it has been done by everyone present and there are no more to whom one can appeal just like a carousel--going up and down and all around and getting no where.LimeyCinema1960 (talk) 00:19, 22 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Could someone with an ounce of influence please counsel the afflicted since the fault has now moved on to WP "admins who usually get things wrong". Someone wants to go up the ladder to determine just who within WP is at fault. If only someone could dig up Flip Wilson, dress him as Geraldine just so that we could have him saying, "The devil made me do it!" Could someone point out the WP organization chart so that we all can then get ready for who is next in line for accusation?A1Houseboy 12:48, 22 March 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by A1Houseboy (talkcontribs)

Nomination of Sunset Limousine for deletion[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Sunset Limousine is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hi @The JPS:, thanks for CSD'ing GEK Terna, but would you please un-SALT it so I can finally move GEK Terna Holding Real Estate Construction S.A there? Another user had moved the page back and forth and all around. In order to revert it to the original state which complies with WP:NCCORP, I filed a CSD, but accidentally moved another redirect to that place instead of the original article with the full page history. Therefore I had to file yet another CSD. Now you salted exactly the wrong title: GEK Terna is the correct place for the article, where it is supposed to stay. Extended confirmed protection[edit]

Hello, The JPS. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:49, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins[edit]

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers[edit]

Hi The JPS.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:48, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Judy Wicks undeletion[edit]

Greetings, the Wikipedia:Deletion Review page says to discuss things with the editor before posting, so here I am. I believe I started the Judy Wicks article and did so by grabbing quotes from related wikipedia pages like the Richard Hayne article, the Urban Outfitters and any other related articles Free People and White Dog Cafe (I'm not sure if ALL the articles I would pull from today existed at the time of article creation.) I also added things I knew about like her participation in SBN and BALLE. I barely remember the article being much more than a list of things she had done and a few bits from other wikipedia articles when I first started it. Years and years later I only noticed it had been speedily deleted for alleged copyright violations years earlier. I don't remember any copyright violations, but if I had grabbed stuff from her bio like a simple list of awards or affiliations or something, I believe it would have been only a basic list which as far as I know would not be protectable by copyright in this form re: Wikipedia:Copyright in lists with the goal of eventually filling out more details. However, since I can't currently see the page as it was before deletion I can't confirm what it looked like or who or how it had been edited after I created it. I certainly think it's important to add a page about her back to wikipedia. Thanks for your consideration. Centerone (talk) 23:49, 29 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for the calculation of the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)[edit]

ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.

Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.

We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.

For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:04, 4 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Itchy Fingers[edit]

The very unfortunate fate of the Itchy Fingers page is totally undeserved and must be based on a misunderstanding. This band was groundbreaking for Jazz saxophone (ensembles) ever since. May I kindly ask you to resurrect that page to my personal space, so that I can look after it? -- Kku (talk) 14:02, 23 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please reconsider[edit]

Hi JPS,

Recently you've deleted the page https://en.m.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Draft:Willem_Laszlo&action=edit&redlink=1 .

He is a multi million streaming artist and I created the article because there was none when reading about his name in this article:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/L%C3%A1szl%C3%B3

Under surname and music.

He is associated with labels like STMPD Records, NCS and Monstercat.

Please reconsider :)

Thanks in advance.
