CC-BY-SA version 3.0

{{helpme}} I'm curious as to why Template:cc-by-sa-3.0 is not available for use, or in the Image Upload wizard, yet.— Timothy (not Tim, dagnabbit!) 19:31, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Seems there is still discussion as to whether CC 3.0 is compatible with Wikipedia. I did some digging and found this Commons_talk:Licensing/Archive_7#Creative_Commons_3.0_Licenses_.28again.29. If you have any further questions feel free to ask on my user talk page! CamannTALK 20:22, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
Wikipedia as stated on it's own page, is "operated by the Wikimedia Foundation, a non-profit organization." So if Wikimedia says something can't be used, then Wikipedia has to abide by it. So you would want to check out the discussion there. The active discussion seems to be here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons_talk:Licensing/Creative_Commons_3.0. That's quite a read as it stands, the basis that jumps out at me is that the license needs to be completely analyzed to ensure it is compatible with Wikimedia's own license (Wikipedia:Text of the GNU Free Documentation License). So really, Wikipedia is the wrong place for such a discussion. It is bound to whatever Wikimedia's decision is. CamannTALK 21:30, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Opus quadratum

Hey, we're working at the same time! Your changes to Opus quadratum were great! What a mess that one was to start with. Nothing like the English language, huh? It's so funny that you noticed my American spelling change...I actually did hesitate, because I don't usually change that kind of thing. Since you caught me, I'll be slower next time! Glad to have you aboard! SlackerMom 18:35, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

You mean about the citations? The tag is much like the copyeditors tag that was on the article before, it will bring in new people to help with it. If you have time, just google for information. The uncited tag just added the page to the group of pages without citations (notice the category below the article). If you need help with how citations work, I'd suggest reading up on WP:FOOT and WP:CIT. If you want, you can ignore the tag completely... it's purpose is just to let other editors who are experienced in dealing with uncited articles know. You've done great to get the article to this point. I looked through the history. It was a COMPLETE mess before. CamannTALK 01:36, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

{{helpme}} I added the above disambig page, and linked the three articles to it. I just wanted to make sure I'd done it right, or what (if any) changes I should make. — Timotab Timothy (not Tim, dagnabbit!) 22:20, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

deleted pages

{{helpme}} I've noticed a number of pages I've edited have broken links (where the wiki page doesn't exist). Is there any way to see if the page ever existed and got removed, or if it simply never existed?—Preceding unsigned comment added by Timotab (talkcontribs)

Yes, simply follow a redlink, such as that at User talk:Yalee2, and the area right above the edit box will be a notice box with the deletion log, such as that at Wei-Yi Yang. If there is no such notice box, then the page never existed, at least at that name. Hope that helps.--Chaser - T 04:11, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
Thanks!— Timotab Timothy (not Tim, dagnabbit!) 04:17, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
You're welcome. I just noticed this is different when you're logged out, since IPs can't create articles. Experiment a little, you'll see what I mean.--Chaser - T 14:58, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your support in my Request for Adminship. Historical and Catan series

I'm glad that you took my comments the right way. It was, by no means, my intention to shut you down. I did something similar over at "Tile based board games." I broke it up into two subcategories, "Tile laying board games" and "Games with a modular board," because it didn't make sense to me that Settlers, Nahjong and Tigris and Euphrates were all in the same category. I think you need to do something similar here, to separate games based on actual historal events and games that are merely set in a particular historical period. I think it's going to be tough to come up with something that everyone's happy with, so good luck.

As far as the Settlers (series) article goes, I'm probably going to keep the images to a minimum, since it's a list. Probably just one for each main section, (board game, card game, etc.). Any help you can contribute on the prose would be great, though.

Good work so far. Always nice to have another active contributor around. -Chunky Rice 21:48, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

That's exactly what it means. I'm pretty happy with the organization, but other than that, edit away. I wouldn't even object to a change in the overall structure, but I'd appreciate discussing it first.-Chunky Rice 22:41, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Well, it looks like someone (2 people actually) came in and deleted the article before I got this message. I think that the {{db-spam}} takes precedence over {{hangon}}, so it's going to get deleted anyway. That probably depends on the admin, though (some will flat-out delete, some will wait). I hope that answers your question, even though this particular article has already been dealt with. ~ Amalas rawr =^_^= 12:27, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Political positions of Christopher Dodd

I strongly disagree with idea of deletion and including to page about Dodd. If so, then we should deleted pages about political positions of Clinton, Obama, Biden, Brownback, Gravel etc. etc. and merged - but then pages about persons became too large.

Could you let me finish this article with references and then deleted or not?

In accordance with the implied permission at his contact page I'm posting our conversation here for reference.

4:35:11 AM timotab: argh! Sorry to bother you, but Wiikipedian has removed that information from Elisha Cuthbert *again*
4:35:31 AM crazycomputers: hmm
4:36:11 AM timotab: and if you look at Notices page you directed me to, I'm not the only one with issues with him today
4:36:44 AM crazycomputers: looking
4:38:32 AM crazycomputers: this is delicate because i'm pretty sure he's acting in good faith
4:39:24 AM crazycomputers: i've blacklisted him in my client so i'll get a notice whenever he edits
4:39:37 AM timotab: but you'd think that if people are placing warnings on his talk page that he'd stop and think to himself why are they doing that?
4:39:37 AM crazycomputers: you might open an RFC too
4:39:43 AM crazycomputers: maybe
4:42:23 AM timotab: I suspect Engish isn't his first language, but if you look at his total contribs, his total *useful* contributions have been... minimal. He's just got a number of people annoyed
4:43:05 AM timotab: as for an RFC, I'm tired right now, and a little peeved, so I'm going to go to bed (nearly 5am here!) and take another look when I've calmed down, but that may be a good way to go.
4:43:18 AM crazycomputers: probably for the best
4:43:20 AM crazycomputers: i'll keep my eye on him

4:45:56 AM timotab: yes... it's like he has no concept of how his "contributions" affect everyone.
4:48:04 AM crazycomputers: that one edit isn't that bad, actually it does improve the readability
4:48:17 AM crazycomputers: i have no idea wtf he's trying to accomplish with the other edits though
4:52:56 AM timotab: OK, I've already done 3 reverts on Elisha Cuthbert. Is it OK for me to revert again, as it seems to be vandalism, after warnings?
4:53:19 AM crazycomputers: in this case i don't think so. i'll revert some if i have to.
4:54:23 AM timotab: ok. anyway, thanks for your help, and it looks like DarkFalls has also stepped in. I don't envy you your job :)

Hi Timothy. I was just snooping around, and came across your comment to this guy re: edit summaries. Not to stick my nose where it doesn't belong, but I hope that you remain civil when sharing your frustrations in the future. Your lambasting the user above is discouraging. — Freechild (¡!¡!¡!¡) 03:46, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
*sigh* Yes, perhaps it was a little harsh, though that user has been a source of a number of frustrations.— Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 04:26, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
Hi Freechild, not to worry, Timotab is as civil as one gets. Don't be mislead by the fact that Timotab's message is currently the only one on the page; you might want to check the page history of the user in question to see how many times Timotab and others (including me) have made the same request over and over, and have been ignored equal many times. Welcome to the League of Copyeditors

I'm very sorry I haven't had a chance to welcome you earlier, I have been incredibly busy lately. We are glad to have your help. Currently, we have really cut down the backlog of articles in need of copyedit. Therefore, a major goal at this moment is to identify new articles that are in need of work. When you run across them, be sure to tag them for copyediting.

If you have any questions at all, do not hesitate to drop me a line. Trusilver 06:24, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

Hey, thanks for agreeing with me that the Me To You Bears page should not be deleted. As with all pages I create I tried my best to make it not sound commercial, but it's hard not to when you are describing a commercial object. I will of course try and find references for all the things that need referencing but no promises as it's hard! Have a pleasent evening! Cls14 00:01, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

I've included one reference from The Guardian newspaper, three with sales and website hit figures which I got from the papers of a court case (!) and one from a European wide consumer body. Oh and the tip that you gave me for linking to photos will be very useful! Cls14 08:25, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

{{helpme}} It has been noted on the Talk:Elliot Cho page that the one-T spelling is the correct one, and the author of that page agrees that the best course of action is to delete that page, and then rename Elliott Cho to the correct spelling. I suspect a redirect would also be appropriate (it's a not-unlikely misspelling of the name). In addition, the author of the current Elliot Cho page asserts he is himself Mr Cho. I fully believe his creation of that page to be in good faith, but it should be noted on the talk page once it's all corrected that he's now a wikipedian. Not sure how to do that appropriately, either.— Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 06:14, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

there is a slight problem here, because I think the double t spelling is the correct one, mainly because Imdb believes it to be so(not saying that we should base all of wikipedias entries around Imdb, but it is a helpful guide.) I believe that the double t spelling should stay, and just create a redirect on the single t page, thats if the elliott cho and elliot cho group of articles as it were, don't get A7 deleted for not being notable enough.--KerotanLeave Me a Message Have a nice day :) 08:59, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

The talk page's been restored. I'm still not convinced that the actor in question meets WP:BIO. In any case, a reliable source is needed as evidence for the correct title or a move is not on the way. Regards, PeaceNT 15:32, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. Yes, I understand that, and I'm not saying it should necessarily be moved, but that discussion should be at least made. I'll copy the discussion from the old talk page over.— Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 15:38, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

I'll consider that a "yes." KP Botany 18:33, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
No, I don't know about them. I'm one in need of them, but because I edit in a specific area, I have a posse that takes care of my errors. When I'm outside my area (apparently not many plant scientists editing pop tarts these days), it takes them a while to get around to the articles--obviously they are stalking me through my contributions, because I get copyedits by plant editors on everything from opera to linguistics to obscure Polish noblemen. I think Anna Wilding needs englishified before it can be copyedited, though. I posted on User:Acalamari's page, where plenty of editors who edit young actresses abound, so maybe someone will apply English to it. Great photo by David Shankbone, though. Deletion of Benny Strange

Timothy, Would you please be kind enough to tell me why Benny Strange's page is "inappropriate"? I'm really unclear as to why a page for musical group wouldn't be allowed, especially one with an existing reputation and affiliations that should be evidence enough that they're not just another garage band. Benny Strange has won several national competitions since their inception, and they've worked with people in the music industry that have their own credibility as well. It wouldn't be so bad, but I've done my research and found several pages out there for bands that don't even have that:

Kneebody

Hispanic_MCs

PH10

Rakoth (band)

Some of those bands don't even have an official website to speak of. Nothing can be verified about the band, whereas you can go to Benny Strange's website and see that they placed first in ReverbNation's contest, and more recently were the only band to have TWO singles in last month's national OurStage contest for the Indie / Alternative genre (they placed both first and fourth) and were one of the semi-finalists.

I'm really at a loss as to what else needs to happen for them to have their own wikipedia entry. I didn't place any opinion in there, it was all based on fact. Will you please help me understand what it is I've left out, or what else can happen in order for them to have a page? I'm not trying to slight any of the bands I mentioned above...that was based on content alone.

Thank you in advance for your time! Joey —Preceding unsigned comment added by Joey6p (talkcontribs) 20:13, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Benny Strange, and thank you :)

Oh man, I accidentally hit back and erased everything I had typed. So here goes again, heh.

First off I want to say thank you, sincerely. The truth of the matter is I submitted the page before and the person who deleted it wouldn't send a reply when I essentially stated exactly what I said to you. But from the looks of it that person wasn't going to be overly helpful anyhow. So I want to say that I appreciate the fact that you took the time to not only respond back, but to offer assistance on the matter. Thank you :)

I tried to add more each time in hopes that it met the criteria, and with your help I think that can be achieved.

Ok, here's one major issue I'm coming across. I can easily reference a website that specifically talks about Benny Strange winning the ReverbNation contest, but it's blasklisted for some reason. When I attempt to add it to the article it gives me an error. The link is:

indiemusic suite101 com/blog.cfm/bennystrange_sxsw_gig_announced (I had to take the periods out between indiemusic and then suite101 and then.com or it won't even last me submit with it in the message)

Another thing I'm waiting for is Relix Magazine to announce Benny Strange being featured on their compilation CD in November, which will include a bio.

I can add a reference for the OurStage.Com showing them at #1 and #4, it will just take me a few to edit it (I'm trying to get used to WikiPedia's edit interface)

Thank's again, I really appreciate everything!

PS: I know Benny Strange appears here and there as one word, but I have official confirmation it's two words "Benny Strange". —Preceding unsigned comment added by Joey6p (talkcontribs) 22:24, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi Timothy. How are you? I'm very happy that you sent me the message. Please could you help me create the Userbox category for ethnic groups? And could you explain me shortly should I input the userbox there as an template, or as an user? That is - as User:Ethnic Macedonian or as Template:Ethnic Macedonian. Thanks in advance. Thanks a lot Timothy. I wish you a most pleasant weekend. See you. Cheers. Revizionist 14:50, 08 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I've actually moved it to the correctly named {{User Ethnic Macedonian}}. Fut.Perf. 14:55, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

I decided to use the revision before the major update was made as that one works fine for me and I know what I get. --Oxymoron83 18:07, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
And again. Like I said, need a template. :) --Moonriddengirl 19:24, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

I think "block without mercy as a violation of our username policy" is the safest option. I have as a backup that the real it: user has set up an account here on en: so any other attempt is clearly a false one. Orderinchaos 16:28, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

That certainly was the wrong page. Thanks for the warning. Garion96 (talk) 01:09, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

Sorry i didn't notice the other edit thanks for reverting it--AFUSCO 01:25, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Oh I'm so relieved!

Timothy, I'm so happy to hear you're home, while I realize it is a bit silly, I was worried. I know we don't know each other, but as a nurse, well you know how it is, when others hurt, we hurt. I'm so happy to hear you're back home, and I hope you'll be 100% soon! ArielGold 01:44, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Aww. Thank you. *continues his oh-so-innocent whistling* — Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 01:47, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
I pay extreme attention to edit summaries, in fact, my name lit up in purple lights on IRC earlier today when someone had placed "ArielGold" in their edit summary, ~*Whistles right back innocently*~ ArielGold 01:50, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
That's good to know — Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 01:52, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
I noticed it the minute you did it, m'dear! I just didn't really think it warranted my commenting, as that seemed sort of... I don't know, self-serving hrmm, I can't think of the right word for it... ? I'm quite happy you like it enough to use it, and honored as well, my most sincere gratitude. ArielGold 02:01, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
P.S. I'd remove the Article from the "Created" list if I were you, lol. That was just there for me to have a place-holder and you to know where to put stuff, I'm sure you have articles you've created you can place there, or you could hide the section for now. ArielGold 02:03, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for making it for me. And yes, I knew there was something I needed to remember! :) — Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 02:04, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
Hee hee, honestly I'm honored that you like it enough to use it. I think it fits you much better, as well! ArielGold 02:14, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
I can neither confirm, nor deny, that you are currently being Wiki-Stalked. ArielGold 02:17, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
Well if you want it in the tags, that's okay, lol. I just couldn't read your TOC because it was overlapping. Sorry, didn't mean to make a boo boo! ArielGold 02:33, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
No, it's fine. Reading the TOC hadn't been a problem before because I've never had one so big. Or a TOC. ;) — Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 02:36, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
Hee hee, pretty soon you'll need to change this: |algo = old(30d) to 14 days, lol. Already it takes a while to load your page! ArielGold 02:39, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
Hehe you two! Welcome home Tim....othy! :P And lovely new userpage. WTG AG! ~Eliz81(C) 02:40, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
Hey, Timothy, want to add your sig automatically to that template? So you don't have to worry about signing it, you can just subst: it? (Or you probably know how to do that, right? ) ArielGold 02:47, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
Ooh, how do you do that? I tried to do it, and it kept substing the signature in as I saved the template. Tell me how! — Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 02:50, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
 Done ArielGold 02:59, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Thank you!

Thank you for the revert on my user page. Much appreciated. Into The Fray T/C 03:33, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
