A barnstar for you!

The Editor's Barnstar
Hello Vensatry, thank you for your improvement of the article on Jayakanthan! It was extremely low on sourcing before, which meant that we could not highlight on In The News the passing of this great Tamil poet. Your extensive work on sourcing means that we can now recognise him in this way. Thank you and continue your good work on improving this encyclopedia. '''tAD''' (talk) 17:48, 14 April 2015 (UTC)

DYKs

I want to ask whether newly promoted (FA, FL or GA) can be submitted for DYK?—Prashant 07:31, 15 April 2015 (UTC)

Only GAs can be nominated, that too with in a week after its promotion. For FA/FLs, we have TFA/TFL. Vensatry (ping) 08:13, 15 April 2015 (UTC)

That means there is no chance to newly promoted fls? Any other ways to add DYK to articles?—Prashant 08:40, 15 April 2015 (UTC)

1 award two name

I think there is a misunderstanding about her awards win particularly Filmfare. I have seen Filmfare Awards in my childhood from 2003 to 2012 (Now I'm not at home nor have time). I have seen who got what. Lara, Priyanka, Ayesha Takia, Kangana, Vidya, Deepika all got the same awards twice. But, they had only one award at the end of the day. It was also present in Balan's page (which I removed 2 yrs back), It was also present in Kangana's page. You should watch this video where Deepika and Ranbir are holding only one award in their hand, posing for the filmfare magazine. If she had won two awards she would have two trophies in her hand. Which is not the case. You may ask @Krimuk90:, he had once told me to remove it from Padukone's page. I hope it helps.—Prashant 12:48, 16 April 2015 (UTC)

Holding only one trophy in her hand => Only one win - How can someone arrive at a conclusion like this? What if somebody wins three awards in a ceremony? Okay leaving that aside, why do you think think this award shouldn't be listed here? Vensatry (ping) 17:22, 16 April 2015 (UTC)

Doubt

Regarding population a city like Guntur and Nellore were expanded and nearby villages were merged. The new population is based on 2011 calculations by summing up the city population with the merged villages population. So, can we mention the updated one or the 2011 official old data?--Vin09 (talk) 17:53, 2 May 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for dropping in. But I'm not clear about what you're exactly looking for. Vensatry (ping) 18:03, 2 May 2015 (UTC)
I think I got the answer by checking our conversation User_talk:Vensatry/Archive_23#Population. My doubt was Guntur city population was increased by merging surrounding villages, so the population was increased. Same for Nellore. As per your statement, which you told me long back, I added these two places population in the info boxes. So, I asked is it correct to add them or we should go back to 2011. As far as I know, the municipality added the villages population to the corporation based on 2011 census. Anyway thanks for responding.--Vin09 (talk) 06:27, 4 May 2015 (UTC)
If we have a reliable source for the updated figures (for expanded areas), it's fine to add it. Else, I'd advise you to stick with the pre-expansion population figures. Vensatry (ping) 19:19, 5 May 2015 (UTC)
I have added with ref. Thanks for your reply.--Vin09 (talk) 07:31, 10 May 2015 (UTC)

Wow

There are several small Indian list present, including of English Vinglish. But, what is more surprising is that you chose to raise this topic on my flc. Size really doesn't matter, if your list/article is well-refrenced. And, there are lots of tiny awards list by actors on wikipedia, but you went on to notice only this. Wow.—Prashant 15:55, 10 May 2015 (UTC)

Is the English Vinglish list an FL? When you make comparisons try atleast to cite some good examples such as List of accolades received by 12 Years a Slave (film) and List of accolades received by 127 Hours. "Size really doesn't matter" – Really? are we aware of WP:CFORK and criterion 3(b) of WP:WIAFL? For now, I'm concerned only about this list because it's at FLC right now. Vensatry (ping) 18:24, 10 May 2015 (UTC)
I hope you can organise 20-30 moreawards shows in India. Will you? Only then Indian lists will be bigger. If a country has only 5 awards ceremony, what to expect? That is not my fault. Coming to the list, Since the main article was quite large,I had to split the page. I will be working on the main article as there is lot more to add, especially production through its DVD bonus disc.—Prashant 19:28, 10 May 2015 (UTC)
Also, I just checked all your cricket FLs. They are tinnier as compared to this list. So, why no one objected then?—Prashant 19:34, 10 May 2015 (UTC)
Do you even get my point by going through both the guideline and criteria? If a country has only 5 award ceremonies, why not list them in the parent article itself. What's the need to fork them out and go for an FLC? The main article being "quite large" alone is not satisfactory enough to warrant a separate article. The list, in itself, must satisfy all the requirements of a stand-alone list. On what basis you compare the cricket lists with award pages? The members of WP:CRIC have an "unwritten" rule for different kinds of lists (based on topics) that fall under the project's scope. All my cricket FLs, comply with the standards of a stand-alone article. Vensatry (ping) 20:00, 10 May 2015 (UTC)
Oh! I'm really sorry for that. I did not meant to be rude. Actually, I did not read your last line on the flc. Sorry for that. I really appreciate your works on Cricket lists. It's just I gave a wrong example.—Prashant 20:40, 10 May 2015 (UTC)

Kamal Haasan Filmography

What makes you feel that Kamal Haasan's repertoire of 40 Malayalam films is mere 'Point.Of.View'? How can his filmography be a 'personal' point of view? I said he 'predominantly' did non-tamil films in Malayalam because, he has done 40 straight films(+1 Spec Appearance) in Malayalam which together constitute a much bigger repertoire compared to his filmography in Hindi and Telugu.

Firstly, you were being senseless in your argument as your wording was wrong. Did he "predominantly" act in Malayalam? Secondly, where have I denied that he has been in around 40 films. And, yes making claims like Malayalam was predominant among non-Tamil films without being attributed to any reliable source is a POV. I agree that he was very much active in Malayalam cinema between 1974 and 1978. Yes, only in that period, during which he acted in around 30-35 films. But you cannot sum up his career for sure like what you did in the edit. Besides, we have a mention about his earlier involvement in Malayalam cinema: "The next year he acted in a series of films in Tamil and Malayalam.", "Following the success of Kanyakumari, he started working on more Malayalam films throughout the 70s" in the preceding sentences. Making further emphasis would only make it look like a POV. As I said earlier, the reader can go through the table and make use of sortability feature, to understand how many films has he done in various languages. Vensatry (ping) 08:19, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

The word "predominant" was used for that period only. His total number of non-Tamil films is around 80, and he has not had a prolific non-Tamil career after 1989. (You should have thought about this before showing childlike haste in dubbing something as 'senseless').

Besides, the emphasis was laid (on his Malayalam career) because, a lot of online webpages may have referenced this wiki article earlier, especially during the days when it claimed he works 'primarily in Tamil and notable films in Telugu'. His Telugu filmography does not contain more than 16 films, while his Malayalam filmography contains 41 films. So, for almost a year, this wiki article had given the wrong information (which was strong 'POV') saying that he 'primarily acted in Tamil & Telugu'. Anyway, you have made your point clear with the response. Thanks for that. So I am making no further edits to it. But, for almost a year, a wrong impression was conveyed about his Telugu repertoire. PS: I respect his notable Telugu filmography which contains evergreen classics like Saagara Sangamam and Swathi Mutyam.

No, when you used that word it wasn't particularly referring to that period alone. And, yes I remember while ago, there was something like "Kamal Haasan is an Indian actor who primarily works in Tamil and Telugu film industries", which is untrue. I know many of them wouldn't be aware of the fact that he has acted in around 40 Malayalam films. To be very honest, his talents were not properly exploited by the Malayalam filmmakers that he worked with. There are not even a handful of good performances out of the 40 films. However, films like Maro Charitra, Aakali Rajyam, Sagara Sangamam, Swati Mutyam and Indrudu Chandrudu elevated his status to such an extent that they are not just considered a "landmark" in his career, but in the whole of Telugu cinema. I remember Kamal himself saying in one of the interviews that he is worried for not being able to give a film like Ek Duuje Ke Liye or Kokila or Sagara Sangamam in Malayalam. Yeah saw that. Are you a Sivaji fan? :) Vensatry (ping) 13:27, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
Yes indeed. I am also a fan of MGR as well. I am more into the "old is gold" concept. Mani Ratnam films are because Mouna Ragam is the first Indian cinema GA for the 1980s. Nayakan (my next planned GA) is because of the impact it created. Thamizhan1994 (Appo Pesu) 13:31, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
You could also add Muthal Mariyathai in your list. Vensatry (ping) 13:40, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
I don't know why but the mere mention of Muthal Mariyathai or Gauravam makes me laugh. Sivaji is a natural when it comes to comedy as even when he speaks seriously or shows his expressions, it is humorous. But it leaves a mark on you in a good way. That's how I started admiring him. Thamizhan1994 (Appo Pesu) 13:47, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, he was quite adept at comedy, even at the twilight of his career. But I thought he was effortless in stylized acting. Rajinikanth is the only actor who comes close to him in this regard. Vensatry (ping) 14:03, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
You are right. His style is shown especially in films like Pasamalar (his high class society scenes), Navarathri (as the widower) and Puthiya Paravai. Thamizhan1994 (Appo Pesu) 14:08, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
