I haven't touched any of those sort dashes as you could see from my edit. The tool just converted those hyphens into en dashes, which is one of the prime requirements of FLC. —Vensatry (Ping me) 10:16, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

Enthiran songs

THere appear to be articles for the individual songs, I doubt any of them pass our songs notability criteria, can you check? e.g. Pudhiya Manidha. Tamil actor pics

I found a Soundarya wedding image gallery on Filmitadka, but I can't recognize most of the people in the 100 odd images. I've uploaded a pic for Dhanush, Ajith, Shalini, Maniratnam, Suhasini, Sivakumar, but there are lots more that I can't figure out :) Maybe you want to take a look at that gallery sometime and upload any (many require cropping). —SpacemanSpiff 21:42, 25 January 2012 (UTC)

Ilayathalapathy Vijay

I know that Ilayathalapathy is not the actor Joseph Vijay's name, although fans call him that way mostly. But why shouldn't I use that name in the article? Doesn't the article Sivaji Ganesan show that the same actor's other name is Nadikar Thilakam? Why the difference? Kailash29792 (talk) 15:20, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

No, I'm supporting the addition of Ilayathalapathy, because it is a title, whether official or not, it has received significant coverage and almost all the news reports about Vijay carry the name. For an another example, take Kareena Kapoor, she is informally called "Bebo" and the article (GA) has a mention of it in the lead. The same should apply here, unless the two cases are very different. There is a difference between a nickname and title. I'm not against adding the title any where in the article, except in the infobox. There was a discussion regarding this long back (you might find in the tp archives) where it was decided not to include titles such as "Superstar", "Ilaiyathalapathi", "Thala", "Ulaganayagan", etc., in infoboxes. Rajini has many such titles—Superstar, Style Mannan, etc., We cannot add all those if some fan comes and claims this. However, it can be mentioned with proper references in a neutral manner wherever appropriate. Can I ask you to keep an eye on the Filmfare Best Actress Award page when you're here? I filed a request for protection and am not sure it will be accepted, also started a talk page discussion. I watchlisted that page long back. Even I'm not clear with the way in which the superlatives are calculated. Why the calculations are done also considering the "Best Supporting Actress Award" when the article is only about "Best Actress Award". Guess this list follows a similar pattern to that of Academy Award for Best Actress. This is a notice to all users who currently have at least one open peer review at Wikipedia:Peer review. Because of the large number of peer review requests and relatively low number of reviewers, the backlog of PRs has been at 20 or more almost continually for several months. Confusion

Do you have any idea about what the difference between "corporation schools" and "government schools" (not government aided schools) is? According to this source, "Corporation of Chennai is maintaining 286 Corporation Schools, 336 Government and Government aided management schools and 10 A.D. Welfare Schools." This confusion popped up in the FAR of Chennai, and it seems be getting haywire. X.One SOS 16:15, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

To my knowledge, a corporation school is a government school, but vice versa need not be true always. I guess the 286 corporation schools are those which are located with in the area administered by the municipal corporation of Chennai and the others must be outside the city limits. —Vensatry (Ping me) 16:47, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

If you look at the source, all of the 336 Govt. (& aided) schools are located in the core city. There is a statement saying "Further in the year 1990 the Government and Government aided schools and A.D welfare schools are brought under the control of Corporation." which makes clear that earlier they were not controlled by the corporation. I guess those Govt. schools would have been established by the state Govt. (not by the corpn) at various periods of time before being acquired by the corporation. Mangalore

There was an image of the Town Hall in the Mangalore article's infobox, and now that a Wikiproject has been created for it, the pic is being used in the banner. The author has cited it as own work and the pic is undoubtedly nice, but still it lacks metadata. I'm not familiar with such type of rules, but I believe you have nominated one file for deletion in the past because of a similar problem. Lack of metadata is not sufficient to prove that one does not hold the ownership. Try making a "Google search" of the image to check if it was published outside the commons before the upload date. Otherwise, WP:AGF and leave it. —Vensatry (Ping me) 18:25, 22 February 2012 (UTC)

I don't think a more common format for dates is there for India. This article mentions the "dmy" format to be common, while many of the popular Indian media use the "mdy" format. So I guess there shouldn't be any problem with both of these formats. —Vensatry (Ping me) 14:43, 25 February 2012 (UTC)

Chennai

Your edit on adding Telugu as a major spoken language has been removed by me. Barely 2% of the people are Telugus and it is not recognized as an official language. Telugu and Hindi are not considered major languages of Chennai. There are more or less equal Hindi speakers as compared to Telugu speakers in Chennai, mainly due to the fact that all other non-Hindi North Indians know and communicate fluently in the language. It's rather illogical, isn't it? But looking at English, around 90% of the people are educated and almost all of them can read and write English. Hence the change. I agree Hindi isn't a major language. That was an error made out of the copy-paste from Kolkata's infobox. Telugu is definitely one of the major languages in Tamil Nadu. They form the majority after Tamils. However, I never stated that Telugu to be an official language. I just included that under "Spoken languages". A 1971 census report say 12% of Madras's population constitute Telugus. It was definitely a major language of Chennai prior to the formation of Andhra Pradesh. Chennai was supposed to be a part of Andhra Pradesh post Independence and there were plans to make it the state capital. FYI, there were a lot of riots demanding the inclusion of Chennai to Andhra Pradesh. In fact, I'm planning to write a little on the article later. Let this be talking turkey at the moment. The parameter we are referring to is "other spoken languages", which means other majorly spoken languages. It does not mean the other ethnic groups. I disagree with you about Telugu being a major language in Tamil Nadu. If that is the level we are looking into, there are more or less equal number of Malayalis and Kannadigas who reside here. Even sufficient North Indian migration (the great Rajini included) make Hindi a major language, besides the scripture of 90% of the North Indian non-Hindi people speak Hindi fluently here. Even many Tamils know Hindi as it is a major language in all CBSE, ICSE and other national board managed schools. Does it mean, that Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam should be added? Get me the brass tacks of this. A 1971 report is ages back, and as Andhra Pradesh's growth rate in infrastructure, economy and population increased substantially after 1990, the Telugu population percentage has declined in Chennai in particular. Even if you consider that POV, on the grounds of 100% verification not being available, I can assure that a 1971 report is utterly useless here and hogwash data. Are you a native of Tamil Nadu. My friend, the Malayali and Kannadiga population put together is not even half of the total population of Telugus in Tamil Nadu. The 1971 census has got nothing to do with 2012, but do you have any sources to say the Telugu population is much less as of now. First you removed Hindi and Telugu from the infobox and now jumping into a conclusion that Hindi speakers are more when compared to Telugus. Then who do you think form the majority after Tamils? Jews, Parsis? First of all do you have any reports mentioning that there are more number of Malayalis/Kannadigas/others than Telugus. I have atleast something to support my claim (1, 2). Even a normal resident of Tamil Nadu wouldn't say that Telugu is not predominant in Chennai atleast. In some places, you can find sign boards in shops, hotels in Telugu. You can even find Telugu scripts in most of the temples in and around Chennai. FYI, during ancient times Chennai being a part of the Pallava Dynasty had Telugu as one of its official languages. Please note that people who speak a certain language may not necessarily proclaim it as their ethnic language. I speak Tamil, Hindi, Sanskrit and English. Does that make me a native speaker of all the four? I said that Hindi speakers are more because Hindi is the national language and almost all the Bengalis, Gujaratis, Punjabis, Marathi and Oriya people in Chennai, who form at least 5% of the people in Chennai combined, add to the Hindi native speakers. That would obviously bring Hindi speakers on par with Telugu speakers or even more. If Telugus are mentioned, Hindi speakers need a mention. As I said, the glorious history of Chennai is irrelevant here. There has been a significant movement of South Indians within the region in the last thousand years. Even if 10% of the people speak the language, does that confer a merit of being mentioned in the infobox? 90% of Chennai population speak Tamil and 90% speak English. They alone can be mentioned. The others are already mentioned in the "Demographics" section. And, FYI, I have been living in Chennai for the past five years and the Telugu and Kannada restaurants are a part of insignificancy as compared to the Tamil and English signboards. I am very much aware of your first statement. You are the one who removed "Hindi and Telugu" and even explained that in your edit summary as "Nonsense" and now making a statement that Hindi is a major language. 5% of the other linguistic groups is not even a significant minority and doesn't make that a major language. English is common everywhere and I never said English is not a major language. There were anti-Hindi agitations in Tamil Nadu all over with leaders protesting not to speak/teach Hindi and you say Hindi is a major language in Chennai. I take this as your personal vengeance or hatred against the language. Tell me one source which say Hindi or whatever to be the major language after Tamil or the one which say Telugu is uncommon in the state or Chennai. The name of the city itself is believed to be derived from that of a Telugu chieftain. Coming to infobox, I added Telugu as only "Other languages" and I see no harm in doing that. "If Telugus are mentioned, Hindi speakers need a mention", unsupported and biased statements like thes are clear indications of POV pushing and it's not expected from an established user. Please assume good faith before jumping to conclusions that I have a mindset of hating Hindi. I do not have sources to describe the statistics about Telugu and Hindi statistics in Chennai. Neither do you. It is simply on the grounds of relevant side knowledge that we are talking about all this. All CBSE and ICSE schools in Chennai teach Hindi. They don't teach Telugu. All chat shops which are present in almost all localities of the city have Hindi signboards. And I did not support the inclusion of Hindi in the infobox, if that's what you thought. I said that Hindi and Telugu speakers are nearly equal in number and other statistics of Kannada and Malayalam speakers will also have to add to the huge waste-of-time list. My question is : Why fill the infobox with so much data that makes the reader's mind go haywire and at the same time, neglect equally relevant data? That is the reason I said we stick to official languages. The other parameter is totally not needed and the article is undergoing an FA review. Making it more and more complicated ain't gonna help. Assuming that you made extensive googling and couldn't find any sources, you seem to weaken your argument. I presented two newspaper sources to back my claim. Actually it's you who never responded whenever I asked you to present a source. No CBSE/ICSE school in India would teach Telugu or whatever language for that matter. That's not the way to determine the number of speakers. I told umpteen times that Kannada and Malayalam speakers are much less compared to Telugu speakers. Why do you worry about the infobox, adding this attribute won't clutter it by any means. Chennai has a few Telugu-medium schools. Tell me how many schools are there in Chennai with Hindi as the primary language. I don't agree with your perception that Hindi and Telugu speakers are almost the same in Chennai. Give me one official source for this statement. Unless you do so, stop pinging me by adding the same set of comments and don't waste my time. There is no online data available for cities. Census libraries must be having them. There is a report from the CMDA stating there is a "sizeable population speaking Telugu in the city". What else is needed? Do you say that CMDA is wrong? or perhaps they missed out Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, etc., Let's put a full stop to this as I don't want this discussion to grow further. —Vensatry (Ping me) 13:18, 28 February 2012 (UTC)
