Hi Y, please would you mind explaining why Harris was not an A7 CSD, so that I will not make the same mistake next time? Thanks, 1Potato2Potato3Potato4 (talk) 18:29, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. He toured with Wynton Marsalis, and released 5 albums - sounds like an assertion of notability. A7 is only for articles that do not assert notability at all. You might have concluded that this subject fails WP:GNG, but a slow deletion process is needed to delete. -- Y not? 18:33, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks for the swift reply. Best, 1Potato2Potato3Potato4 (talk) 18:37, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Maalouf Ashford & Talbot wiki page[edit]

Hi Y,

I noticed that the following law firm, Maalouf Ashford & Talbot's page was deleted. I request that a new page for this law firm is added back to wikipedia in which I will also provide all reliable sources. I am further confused as to why the page was deleted, given that it is an award winning international law firm which is well known both in the U.S and internationally in the area of corporate law.

I suggest a new page to be uploaded to wiki.

Kind Regards,

Sunfry2 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sunfry2 (talkcontribs) 10:12, 3 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

what I see is a very poorly disguised effort at using this encyclopedia for self promotion. That's not ok. You can take it to WP:DRV if you wish. -- Y not? 11:21, 3 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

K-Developedia[edit]

Could you check the history of K-Developedia which you speedy deleted? It was on my watchlist and I think this is because I previously contested a speedy deletion nomination for it and added a reference to The Korea Times, both of which would suggest this is not an obvious WP:A7 candidate. Thanks! RichardOSmith (talk) 06:18, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Richard - that article looks like a press release... are there any other sources? Do you think this website meets WP:GNG? If you do, I will undelete it. I think that this is part of a coordinated promotion pattern, with multiple creations. -- Y not? 14:10, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ok; I defer to your opinion. I didn't get the impression that the Korean Times article was itself a press release although it could be; just about everything else I have found is. RichardOSmith (talk) 18:09, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The article is not a press release, but it does read like one. -- Y not? 18:37, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Maptitude Undeletion[edit]

Hi:

We are requesting the undeletion of Maptitude. There are numerous similar pages:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_MapPoint http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ArcGIS

And we consider the content of the Maptitude page to be factual rather than marketing oriented. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.233.43.85 (talk) 14:27, 8 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Any by "we" you are referring to the company, I presume? This is an encyclopedia, not an advertising venue. We're neither a social network, nor a website hosting service. -- Y not? 14:34, 8 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the feedback. We (Caliper Corporation- sorry for the previous affiliation omission) did not intend the page to be advertising. It was intended to be a factual description of a widely used software application. Did a specific element of the page breach the parameters of Wikipedia pages? We would be happy to correct that. Will all other software product entries be deleted from Wikipedia or was ours unusual in its content? We are just looking for some direction on this, as we have been getting inquiries from the general public about version release dates and the history of the product, because they were unable to find such information on Wikipedia. -- — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.233.43.86 (talk) 19:50, 11 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

John J. Maalouf wiki page[edit]

Hi Y,

I recently noticed that you have deleted the following page from wikipedia: John J. Maalouf The reason you have stated does not seem to be correct and is very inconsistent, as you have noticed the individual is a notable American lawyer who has contributed to U.S. International Trade Policy as a "member" of the Committee on International Trade, which is a New York Bar Association committee. John J. Maalouf's contribution to the subject matter of US National Security has been of great value, given that such reports (written by the author) were further recommended to be set forth in all port U.S. National Security legislation.

I am shocked as to why such a wiki page/profile is repeatedly attacked, with vague and rather weak arguments stating that it is merely an attempt for promotional use. In addition, I list below the following points as to why this page highly deserves to remain on wikipedia:

1. The lawyer has made contribution to U.S. International Trade Policy, in particular U.S. National Security legislation. Such contributions were proposed by the Committee on International trade as part of the New York Bar Association. Please see: http://www.nycbar.org/pdf/report/Final%20BIT%20paper.pdf http://www2.nycbar.org/Publications/record/vol.%2063%20%20no.%201.pdf

Surely, you are not doubting the credentials of the New York Bar Association now it's committees and fellow members?

2. The lawyer/individual has been repeatedly ranked as one of the top ten international trade and finance lawyers in the United States, by the US Lawyer Rankings. Please see: http://www.unitedstateslawyerrankings.com/2014rankingguide.html

If you have any doubts regarding the credibility of the above prestigious ranking guide, then you must highly reconsider such perceptions, as these rankings consist of all notable US attorneys that are nominated by members of the American Bar Association, Judiciary and Senior Management of large corporations.

This US Lawyer Rankings are the most highly sought and prestigious ranking guides in the US.

3. The lawyer had also received the Distinguished Alumni Award for service to the "legal profession" by one of the leading education institutions in the United States, Boston University. Please see: http://www.bu.edu/met/files/2011/10/bu-met-newsletter_commencement_2011.pdf

4. The lawyer has further been aired on various media platforms, such as leading news channels - CNN. Surely, you understand and are aware that CNN is a leading news platform. I hope you do not doubt credentials of such a leading news channel. Please see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGeslJVjeQg

5. There are a large number of references/citations supporting the credentials of this lawyer from veritable and notable sources.

Now, please compare the above to other profiles of lawyers on wikipedia and you will clearly notice that there have been a numerous amount of sources supporting the content of the deleted wiki page, which you believe is "unambiguous promotional material".

I kindly request you to re-evaluate your actions on wiki and to kindly stop deleting such neutral wiki profiles.

I also welcome you to put forward reasons as to how such material is promotional and why you are doubting the above references.

Thanks,

It's hard to see how this isn't unambiguous advertising, some of the more egregious examples:

  • Altran Foundation for Innovation is one of the key vehicles of the societal action of the group Altran Technologies...it thrives to promote technological innovation for human benefit
  • The challenge for the Altran teams was to find solutions to produce artificial retina in series
  • Altran teams stepped in to help solve precisely this problem.
  • Thanks to Altran’s support, the robot is now commercialized.
  • Altran Technologies consultants have worked during a year with the award winning team
  • Altran engineers worked actively, side by side with the prize-winner,

etc.... the sources are all primary, mostly press releases. Vrac (talk) 18:21, 5 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It's pretty terrible, but I believe it can be cleaned up and the underlying subject is viable. If you would like it deleted, I would suggest AfD - just as effective, but takes a little longer. WP:G11 is only for unambiguous spam. -- Y not? 18:24, 5 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletions[edit]

Hello. I noticed you removed those speedy deletions nominations... Not sure you noticed what I wrote, but the user simply picked the players' full name and create articles, just to redirect them for the original ones, already created way before. That's odd and unnecessary, not to mention unexplained. There's no reason to have pages that won't be accessed like that, as the pages were already created. It makes sense to remove unnecessary pages like those, considering how they were created. What do you think? Gsfelipe94 (talk) 03:16, 2 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think that the user created redirects from their full names, which is totally appropriate. What the harm in a redirect? -- Y not? 12:54, 2 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I believe he created pages just to have number in his curriculum. It was widely known these pages existed already. What's the point of creating a page just to add a "redirect". But if you feel it's not worth speedy deletion, I won't waste time nominating them for regular deletion. Just think those creations are completely unnecessary. Anyway, thanks for replying. Hi Y,

I'm a little concerned at your snowball close of the above AFD. While I can see why you judged it that way, I think that a mere 22 hours isn't sufficient on a matter where one can see there are possibly genuine policy-based reasons for the discussion and views may differ. Events and people who are high profile often gets early pile-on in one direction, however established editors who might provide different perspectives have no such eager awareness and can often take a few days to become aware and weigh in. So the earlier views can sometimes look like a landslide, only balancing out later. The same can happen reasonably often at RFA as well, to take an example.

(Disclosure - I found the article just a day or so after opening, and was about to AFD nom it for similar reasons raised in that AFD, to find your closure after just a few hours. if I still feel the same in a few weeks or months, I might open a second nom if BLP1E still seems appropriate, depending upon how events show the quality of attention to be: often what was big in the news turns out on reflection to be less big in hindsight. Her legal case was worth an article, but it's hard to see the subject herself separately and individually meeting standards, it seems classic BLP1E. Even in the highest profile murder cases BLP1E often applies despite intense media attention to the individuals involved1 2. But that's an aside; no need to rehash.)

What I'd like to ask is maybe, could you perhaps be aware that it's possible you may have jumped too soon, before the discussion had time to evolve and persons less directly focussed had time to weigh in too. If a similar case comes up in future, maybe hold off the use of WP:SNOW for a bit longer, maybe closer to 3 or 4 days, if it looks like the question isn't spurious and might indeed get other views from other contributors, to allow time for discussion to evolve a bit more? It won't hurt, and often helps. It also means people who might weigh in less immediately, aren't excluded if they haven't done so in a few hours. Thanks :) FT2 (Talk | email) 09:13, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Update - I've made a clarifying change to WP:Deletion process#Early closure to make the part about "genuine reasoned disagreement or just highly likely" a bit clearer and a bit clearer why a slight delay can sometimes be worthwhile in these occasions. Can you check this and see if it looks okay to you as well. FT2 (Talk | email) 09:47, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I understand your point and I agree that there's a pretty good argument for blp1e to apply here. There's also a pretty good argument the other way. Either way, I felt that there was no further need for a deletion debate, because there was overwhelming sentiment to keep, because the only reasonable alternative was to merge into the article about the legal case, Miller v. Davis, and because I don't believe in finishing out process for the sake of process.

Having said all that, if you feel strongly about it, I invite you to revert my close and continue the debate from where it left off. It's not too late. I won't object. Alternatively, perhaps you should begin a merge discussion. A better idea, for my money. Be well. -- Y not? 22:16, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know if I agree with your SNOW keep closure of this AfD. I get that the vast majority voted keep, but AfD is not a vote, it's based on consensus and argument. There were two delete votes that had perfectly good arguments for delete but they were ignored because they were outnumbered. This concerns me. Thursday October 15: Women in Architecture Edit-a-thon @ Guggenheim

You are invited to join us for a full afternoon and evening of social Wikipedia editing at the Guggenheim (drop-in any time, noon-8pm!), during which we will create, update, and improve Wikipedia articles covering the lives and works of women in architecture.

RE: Julie Borowski page[edit]

I understand the Julie Borowski page was deleted in April 2014 due to the violation A7: No indication of importance (individuals, animals, organizations, web content, events). If I were able to cite sources of her work, her involvement with organizations which have their own Wikipedia presence (she is actually referenced on two existing Wikipedia pages already), and create an otherwise decent article which follows Wikipedia guidelines, would the article be allowed to remain? Thank you for your time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Keeganzacharie (talkcontribs) 22:34, 12 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Unlikely. Your article world have to rely on multiple secondary sources about the subject to meet the notability standards in WP:GNG. Which seems to me pretty unlikely. -- Y not? 10:48, 13 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Reconsideration of Exotica Valves A7[edit]

Hi Y.

I noticed you speedy deleted the page Exotica Valves due to the apparent lack of credible importance (A7). I created the page when an annual award was announced but it took a while before the award appeared online. Please refer to this press release from the Spanish Valve Manufacturer's association.

Please reconsider the deletion and allow the page to be recreated and the above reference added.

Your deletion of this article just popped up on my watchlist, as I participated in the last deletion discussion of that article.[3] At the time, I noticed that the creator of the earlier version of the article was User:GoldenClockCar, a self-described employee of the company. Just bringing this to your attention for the following reasons: 1) I don't know who created the latest version of the article, but if it was GoldenClockCar there may be a paid-editing TOU issue, as he does not currently disclose he is an employee. 2) If it wasn't that account, it was likely a sock of GoldenClockCar. 3) Any chance of salting it? Thanks, Coretheapple (talk) 15:39, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Probably a sock, but a different username. Can salt if it reappears. It's been two years since the last deletion. -- Y not? 15:50, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • The editor who created the latest version was an SPA who had previously only edited a related article. I've asked for a CU. I can't compare the deleted articles (the ones created in 2013 and the one created recently), which would be useful in determining if there is a connection between the users. It was actually created twice in 2013 I see, once this year. Coretheapple (talk) 19:02, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
http://deletionpedia.org/en/AFerry not hard when you actually make an effort rather than assuming bad faith as you clearly do. Also the above hardly describes multiple repeated attempts at creation as you are trying to imply. And I always said I was employed by the company - on my page and on the article and on the deletion record. Rookie mistake I guess - being honest. So saying you "noticed" I worked for the company implying your detective skills found something untoward is ridiculous.
Who is the editor? What is the related article? I can then make doubly sure nobody in the company is responsible - I have already contacted some people. GoldenClockCar (talk) 19:32, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. un deletion Sudarshanam netra[edit]

hi Ninney

I wonder why Sudarshanam netra is deleted fast..the content does not market any place it just tries to inform a particular subject less known to public with authentic links & reference.More over we see lot other marketing type pages in wiki on similar grounds which are NOT DELETED.

Dr.Gokulan

Sudarshanam netra is not intended for marketing any place but to inform about a lesser known medical science of India now to the world on Ayurveda ophthalmology .the links given were just to vouch about this mission of re surrecting this lost knowledge of India. Speedy deletion is too desperate instead could have left for editing less relevant portion

FUNN[edit]

Hello. I wrote up an article on FUNN Magazine and it got deleted.

I believe there is some confusion.

The article I wrote for FUNN Magazine is not meant for promotion. It is a historically significant invention in the world of augmented reality and holograms. It is similar to many other wikipedia pages describing new technological inventions such as Microsoft's HoloLens and Oculus Rift to name a few.

Can I get a response back please, because I feel that it was deleted before the mods fully understood the significance of the page.

-Dennis

Twas super duper promotional, sorry. This is an encyclopedia. If you wish to self-promote, Facebook is thataway. -- Y not? 19:49, 11 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

----- ----- ---- -----

You obviously don't understand this technology. It's a hard concept to grasp if you're not part of the holographic community. in other words, it might be over your head. Can you please reexamine it?

It is historically significant, and I made it as a reference to the augmented reality page on wikipedia.

I wrote it in great detail to showcase it's historical multi-media significance in the emerging world of holograms and virtual reality.

I also notice that Playboy Magazine has a wikipedia page as well as many other significant media entities such as HoloLens and Oculus Rift. I'm curious what the difference is.

Can you please explain how you found that it was 'super duper promotional' and how I can make is less 'promotional' without leaving out any detail?

Thanks -Dennis

"Without obstacles" redirect[edit]

Just FYI, This was a redirect created by User:Neelix. I realize not everyone is aware of this situation, but Neelix lleft the project after it was discovered he had created literally tens of thousands of questionable redirects. Due to the sheer volume of the problem, the community temporarily authorized creation by Neelix as a valid extension of WP:CSD#G6 if the reviewing admin believed the redirect would probably be deleted if it went to RFD. That being the case, I have speedy deleted it despite you declining to do so earlier. (I'm also not at all sure that "redirects are cheap", while a valid argument at RFD, is a valid reason to decline a speedy, but that's another matter.) Todd Palin[edit]

Hello Y not. Did you know in advance that it would take "legit 30 seconds" to find that source before you started searching? Of course not. So regarding your unsolicited recommendations, allow me to offer one: Y not let editors spend their limited free time their way? I should also point out: 1) If you thought the tag wasn't necessary or justified, you could have just removed it; and 2) You likely wouldn't have even noticed the statement was unsourced without my tag. So, you're welcome. Cheers! X4n6 (talk) 04:32, 18 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

World Hepatitis Alliance[edit]

Why did you delete this page? It's a UN and WHO affiliated organization. Have you even tried to see what you're deleting or you just like to push buttons? Wanna try to delete UNICEF for "promotion"? Read and weep: http://www.worldhepatitisalliance.org/en/our-work/who-we-work/official-relations-partners And then restore it. You can't just delete the article about UN affiliated health organization at your whim. Le Grand Bleu (talk) 15:07, 19 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I probably just push buttons here. Let me go check it out. -- Y not? 15:39, 19 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yup, textbook case of WP:G11. Basically, a promotional piece, citing zero secondary sources, but all kinds of cites to their own website. No prejudice against recreation obviously, if you're able to write something that looks like an encyclopedia article and is actually sourced. Can provide the underlying text, if helpful, but it's pretty useless IMO. Just needs to be started from scratch. And you should use 'please' and 'thank you' when yelling at people. -- Y not? 15:45, 19 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Saturday April 30, 1-6pm: Contemporary Art of the Middle East and North Africa @ Guggenheim
File:Monir Portrait-exh ph021.jpg

On Saturday April 30, 2016, in conjunction with a global campaign, the Guggenheim will host its fourth Wikipedia edit-a-thon — or, #guggathon — to enhance Wikipedia's coverage of modern and contemporary artists from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, and to counter geocultural systemic bias on Wikipedia.

The Guggenheim aims to further the goals of the Guggenheim UBS MAP Global Art Initiative, and build on the model of campaigns like the Wikipedia Edit-a-thon at the Guggenheim: Women in Architecture, Wikipedia Asian Month, and Art+Feminism.

New and experienced editors are welcome. The event will include a training session for participants who are new to Wikipedia and Wikipedia specialists will be on hand to provide basic instruction and editing support.

Can’t join us in New York? Visit our global MENA Artists Month partnership page to coordinate international and online events as well.

Time: Presentation: 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm, Edit-a-thon: 2:30pm - 6:00pm
Location: Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, 1071 Fifth Avenue (88th Street), New York City, New York 10128
Guests should enter using the 88th Street entrance via the ramp at 88th Street and Fifth Avenue

Newcomers are very welcome! Bring your friends and colleagues! --Pharos (talk) ~~~~~

Disambiguation link notification for May 13[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Public Facilities Privacy & Security Act, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Rodney Moore. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Sunday June 5, 12-5pm: Women in Jewish History Edit-a-thon

Join us for a full Sunday of social Wikipedia editing at the Center for Jewish History (drop-in any time!), during which we will create, update, and improve Wikipedia articles pertaining to Women in Jewish History.

All are invited, with no specialized knowledge of the subject or Wikipedia editing experience required.

Expanding coverage of Jewish women on Wikipedia makes these women and their creations discoverable, addresses the gender bias on Wikipedia in a positive way, and works to correct imbalances archival collecting practice and institutional projects that have historically silenced women's narratives.

A training session on editing Wikipedia will be held at 12:30 pm. Experienced Wikipedians will be on-hand to assist throughout the day. Please bring your laptop and power cord; we will have library resources, WiFi, and a list of suggested topics on hand.

Light refreshments will be provided.

Make edits! Ask questions! Be bold!

Time: 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Location: Center for Jewish History, 15 West 16th Street (between 5th and 6th Avenues), New York City, New York 10011

Newcomers are very welcome! Bring your friends and colleagues! --Pharos (talk) 15:02, 1 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
