You're an admin!

It is my pleasure to inform you that you are now an admin. Congratulations. You can feel free to do everything you're supposed to do and nothing you're not supposed to do. If you haven't already, now is the time look through the Wikipedia:Administrators' how-to guide and Wikipedia:Administrators' reading list. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me, or at the Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard. Best wishes and good luck, -- Cecropia 05:43, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Congratulations. Here are what pass for words of wisdom from the puppy:
  1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version.
  2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. You will always pick the wrong one to do. (See #5)
  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll.
  4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block.
  5. Remember when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.
  6. and finally, Remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able.

Belated congratulations, I know from your solid AIV reports you'll be just fine in your chosen niche. Specialize where you want to specialize, and do what you enjoy - this is volunteer work; not a job. The quote to the contrary on my userpage is my personal philosophy, it might not hurt to play around and find some others things you like - but you've probably already done just that. Good luck! User:Propol need to stop wallpapering, other editors user pages with scarlet letters

It would be a wonderful thing, if there was even enforcement of peoples vandalism on user pages. This editor User:Propol behaves badly he is disruptive, poisoning discussions with is unfounded, and unsubstantiated accusations of sock puppetry just because other people do not agree with his point of view regarding the two articles of which he primarily edits on which are Peter Rosakam and Tammy Duckworth here is a link through all his edits. So as you may review and decide for yourself the truthfulness of my statement Propol's editing history, note his intrests

now I hope Wikipedia and its administrators can be fair, and nonbiased regarding application and enforcement of the rules. Thank you68.77.41.23 15:36, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Ok, so far, all I have seen so far is you putting up vandalism on his userpage, which is not only userpage vandalism, but also violates WP:NPA, which I do not tolerate. If you do have a compliant against the user, it does not justify you from vandalising other user's userpage, see WP:POINT. At of this moment I do not have time to investigate this matter into detail. However, I am sure the WP:AN/I could you help with this. Yamamoto Ichiro (山本一郎)(会話) 15:47, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Block on 216.221.96.202

Your block on 216.221.96.202 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) goes against policy. This is a shared IP address, and there has been absolutely no warnings in over 25 days. For future reference, you might want to tone down the block durations on shared IPs. Nishkid64 (talk) 00:08, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

I have no prevented account creation, anyone could create an account on the ip without problem. Yamamoto Ichiro (山本一郎)(会話) 00:09, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
Anyhow, I replaced it with a 1 month block, it's still an anon-only block with account-creation enabled. Yamamoto Ichiro (山本一郎)(会話) 00:11, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
That's not the point. Some people like to edit anonymously, and given that not everyone knows how to register on Wikipedia, they may be flustered to see that they can't edit for several months. Regardless of your block settings, blocks need to still be compliable with WP:BLOCK, especially if it's a shared IP. They need to be sufficiently warned, and they must have violated a final warning to warrant a block. Also, 203.193.212.130 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) is not a shared IP, but out of courtesy, it's usually best to warn the IP for vandalism before taking any blocking action. Remember, blocks are supposed to be last-resort measures, so don't get too quick on them. Nishkid64 (talk) 00:13, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
Fair enough, I sometimes get shared ip's confused with school ip's, and because school IP's tends to get blocked for 6 months, I sometimes get confused so kind of did it out of confusing school blocks with shared blocks. Just to be safe I unblocked the ip, thanks for the heads up. Yamamoto Ichiro (山本一郎)(会話) 00:16, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
Even for school blocks, you should allow for a fair number of warnings before doing any blocking. If the school has a history of vandalism/previous blocks, then a lengthy block would be appropriate. Nishkid64 (talk) 00:20, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Please remove the font setting on your talk page. Many users set their fonts and sizes specifically for legibility on their own screens, which your font setting negates. CMummert · talk 00:27, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Thank you kindly for helping me monitor the vandalism on this article, I can't believe the number of attacks on it ?! It is very bizarre. An editor named User:Squeakbox deleted half the article before he stuck the afd +tag on the article, I have put it back. An edit that large should first be discussed on the article talk page to gain a consensus and avoid edit wars. Again thank you. PianoKeys 01:49, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Clarification required over User:White2020

Please clarify why this new user has been issued with a username block. PS: In future, please stop using "user..." as your block reason when {{usernameblock}} has been provided for you in the drop box, it only confuses users. --  Netsnipe  ►  06:30, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

The username meets the criteria "Usernames that refer or include allusions to racism, sexism, hate speech, et cetera." according to WP:USERNAME, since "white" refers to white people. If you disagree with the block however, feel free to unblock. About the block reason, next time I'll use the template. Yamamoto Ichiro (山本一郎)(会話) 13:58, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

That's preposterous. If Barry White and Jack Black were to use their surnames as part of their usernames, I'd suppose you'd block them too. --  Netsnipe  ►  14:31, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Username blocks reviewed

From now on, I'm going to have to ask you to refrain from making any further username blocks or I will open a Wikipedia:Requests for comment regarding your fitness as a administrator if I see any more questionable username blocks on your part. You've bitten too many newcomers including: User:BlackKarnage, User:White2020, User:Jessisback, User:Alblack88, User:Veganxxx, User:Bootifoolsh-babe, User:Canucks1619 and User:Jewishartist1993 with your overzealous interpretation of Wikipedia:Username policy. All the above blocks were recently discussed at #wikipedia-en-admins and not a single other admin agreed with them. You are NOT to make any username blocks unless they are clearly obscene -- users are entitled to describe themselves by their race or cultural background. Black and White are legitimate surnames. All borderline cases should be brought up at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User names. You really should give new editors the benefit of the doubt until they make first few edits to determine their intentions before blocking them on username policy violations. --  Netsnipe  ►  15:07, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Your recent edits

Hi Mr. Yamamoto! I'm curious about some of your recent administrative actions. You recently blocked User:White2020, User:Jessisback, User:BlackKarnage, User:Vgjndrn, User:Alblack88, User:Veganxxx, User:Gggg69, User:Canucks1619 in the past two hours, all with the summary user... None of these usernames are at all blockable under our username policy. Could you please explain why you indefinitely blocked all of these people? gaillimhConas tá tú? 14:55, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

I just dropped by to ask the same question. Usernames referencing colours should probably only be blocked when it's something like User:Blacks are gay lol! or User:xxx hardcore fantasy or similar. Usernames that aren't blatantly offensive should be discussed with {{usernameconcern}}. Cheers, Riana 15:01, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
Indeed, and with regards to the colour examples, it's quite clear that Allblack88 is referring to the New Zealand national rugby team and also that White2020 is certainly not racist, nor does it give off even a slight impression of such a thing. With regards to the usage of xxx, the username Veganxxx doesn't refer to anything sexual or pornographic. gaillimhConas tá tú? 15:06, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
Sighs Somehow I knew I would screw up. I have finally understand why you opposed on the RfA. In fact, I was going to unblock them myself ealier today because even I think that those blocks are overzelous myself, but did not have the time in the morning since I had to go to lectures. This is purely bad judgement on my part and hopefully this is the last time this is ever going to happen. Yamamoto Ichiro (山本一郎)(会話) 20:53, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
It's OK Y, don't be too hard on yourself! I didn't want to sound like I was telling you off - just alerting you. Don't worry too much, let's just move on. Cheers, Riana 03:38, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
Yep, no big deal. It's expected that admins will make early mistakes; when I first became an admin on ga.wiki, I accidentally deleted the main page when I was confused by how the devs there translated the word "delete", hehe! Before you make any more username blocks, however, just give this a look first. Cheers! gaillimhConas tá tú? 04:01, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
I'm sure almost every admin did silly stuff at the start. Lets just hope you didn't scare them off. :-) --Deskana (talk) 04:24, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Dear Y!

Smile a little, smile a little, all along the road;
Every life must have its burden, every heart its load.
Why sit down in gloom and darkness with your grief to sup?
As you drink Fate's bitter tonic, smile across the cup.

Smile upon the troubled pilgrims whom you pass and meet;
Frowns are thorns, and smiles are blossoms, oft for weary feet.
Do not make the way seem harder by a sullen face;
Smile a little, smile a little, brighten up the place.

Smile upon your undone labour; not for one who grieves
O'er his task waits wealth or glory; he who smiles achieves.
Though you meet with loss and sorrow in the passing years,
Smile a little, smile a little... even through your tears!

Just a minor thing — I was looking at this revision when I reported the user at WP:AIV. Oysterguitarist changed his mind soon afterwards. —LOL 00:12, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Well, at the time when when you reported the vandal to AIV, the vandal did not vandalise after the level 3 warning, however, when the blocking administrator blocked it, he did vandalise after it. Next time to avoid confusion though, please don't report a person to AIV unless he vandalises AFTER he is warned, not before. Thanks. Yamamoto Ichiro (山本一郎)(会話) 00:15, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Fair use image(?) on template

I notice that your vandal-warning template User:Yamamoto Ichiro/t4 has a fair use image on it. However, I doubt that the image is actually fair use, but was unable to determine its licensing. Please clear this anomaly up or the image in your template will have to be replaced by something less sightly, and necessitating the changeover of all subst'ed warnings to the free image. Thanks! —Kurykh 03:24, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

I no longer use that template, might as well just remove it from all the warnings I gave. If you can find someone with AWB with a lot of time on their hands. Yamamoto Ichiro (山本一郎)(会話) 03:26, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
I have AWB (and use it a lot), so if I may ask for advice? Remove or replace? —Kurykh 03:27, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
Before going to that, if the image gets deleted, don't even bother with it, cause i'm not using this template anymore and i don't think a bunch of red links which links to a image that doesn't exist will matter. I have no idea where the image comes from, although I am certain it is found on the government website. Yamamoto Ichiro (山本一郎)(会話) 03:30, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

I don't really see a huge edit war, seems like various anon's putting POV materials and they were reverted. Although there are some unexplained removal of sourced info. Yamamoto Ichiro (山本一郎)(会話) 05:09, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
Anyhow, I don't know the subject well so I can't make any conclusions from it yet. Yamamoto Ichiro (山本一郎)(会話) 05:10, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. Although I haven't been involved with the article before, another editor brought the edit war to my attention - I hope I acted appropriately by reverting to a version before the edit war started. --Milton 05:21, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Well, I guess we will leave it at that for now. I think that is the version before the edit war as well. Hopefully this will put an end to the revert war. Yamamoto Ichiro (山本一郎)(会話) 05:24, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
I certainly hope so. Perusing the history, though, it seems to have a rather stormy history. But maybe this is just what it needs. Thanks again --Milton 05:26, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Hey, there. Noticed an unblock request from Spaztic-colon (talk · contribs), who you blocked under 3RR. Noticed that Dark Dragon Flame (talk · contribs) appears to have made four or more reverts in the same dispute, but hasn't been blocked or even warned by you. Is there a reason for this discrepancy? – Luna Santin (talk) 06:10, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

203.17.154.218 has been as it again.

(I apologise if this is the wrong place to put this.)
203.17.154.218 has been as it again. Refer history of Canberra International Airport and Defence Establishment Fairbairn. (I think I've restored the pages. I hope!) Pdfpdf 07:01, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

vandal

Hi,

You recently blocked 218.214.39.179 for persistant vandalism. The block expired and he's back at it. Please see his most recent contribution to Saving Private Ryan. Can you block him again or something? Thanks!--Lepeu1999 13:11, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

thanks and sorry for the confusion--Lepeu1999 14:13, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
No problem, it's not a big deal anyways. Yamamoto Ichiro (山本一郎)(会話) 18:44, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Block review

An anonymous editor which you recently blocked, 71.230.46.4, has requested a block review. While that address does have a history of vandalism and incivility, I'm not sure that the edit that led to the block [1] is vandalism or otherwise unacceptable, and it looks like several other editors agree that (s)he is indeed correct. Would you mind taking a second look? Thanks. Seraphimblade Talk to me 13:55, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Ok, done. Yamamoto Ichiro (山本一郎)(会話) 13:59, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
