I would like to comment in detail on Sleep and Sleep disorders. My edits have been removed. How do I fix this Zasleep (talk) 09:42, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You say you would like to "comment in detail on Sleep and Sleep disorders." It is possible that some of that information might belong in this article, but probably some of it belongs in the articles on the specific disorders and topics.
Wikipedia requires of all contributors that information be documented by third-party sources. That requirement does, unfortunately, chase away some valuable contributors who are experts. Nevertheless it's required. Information which belongs in an encyclopedia must have been reported before by a "reliable source." Defining "reliable source" is a never-ending discussion, but generally peer-reviewed journal articles, large newspapers and institutional websites are acceptable.
As to your edits which have been removed;
  1. 1 Feb., the "See also" section is for referring to other Wikipedia articles. Also the information you added there was entirely unsourced.
  2. 4 Feb., same section was expanded, now with reference, (though poorly formatted). I haven't checked that "Gazette" ref yet. I will.
  3. On the same day, you added the general statement "In South Africa general Medical Practitioners may also obtain a Diploma in Sleep Medicine from the examining body College of Medicine." That statement does belong here if given a proper reference and placed further down in the article. I'll check to see if the above-mentioned reference can be formatted and used for this. I should think there are other references available, too, such as newspaper and magazine reports of the milestone.
  4. Same day: "In South Africa sleep centres and clinics were opened only by accredited sleep medicine specialists." That's good news! It must have been reported, and we need a reference.
  5. Same day: "WFSRSMS members in Africa include the South African Society of Sleep Medicine (SASSM) of South Africa." with a URL. That should be easy enough to verify. I'll check and format the ref.
  6. Same day: You're still adding to the "See also" section, which isn't appropriate. Also, you're writing about yourself, I think. That still needs a reference, such as news release. [It is interesting that General Medical Doctors (GP, General Practitioners) become qualified in Sleep Medicine in your country. In the USA, only certain specialists may qualify -- though I'm not sure why. The good thing in the USA is that doctors no longer can call themselves "sleep specialists" if they aren't properly qualified.]
  7. Same day: a bot reverted your edits after a few minutes, for good reasons in most cases, but I think that the information about South African Society of Sleep Medicine (SASSM) should remain.
  8. The article presently includes some duplications. I'll try to do cleanup. We do need more information from different parts of the world. I'm sorry our rules are slowing you down
  9. About our signatures (4 of these, ~, or the signature icon above the edit box): they belong on discussion pages only, not in article text.
Please don't give up. There are many helpful people here, and all were new once. Accepting that we must cite sources and give references isn't easy for the experts. Once that fact is accepted, finding said references usually is no big problem. Improper formatting will always get fixed by someone.

I have now checked and added the references I’ve found. I’d like to add "In South Africa sleep centres and clinics were opened only by accredited sleep medicine specialists," if a source can be found. Otherwise, the web site of WFSRSMS does not (yet) include the South African organization as a member. I hope the rest meets your approval. - Hordaland (talk) 23:50, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

THANKS - I appreciate you taking the time to review my edits. I think I will try again. He is also on the executive of the South African Society of Sleep Medicine and is charged with promoting Sleep in Primary Care. Dr Carrim runs the Pretoria Sleep Centre. http://maps.google.co.za/

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) has its own Wikipedia article.
The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) has its own Wikipedia article, and in that article you can see a list of Boards. The blue-linked ones have their own articles.
You have so much information about the Boards and Colleges in your country, you may want to write a new article. Sleep medicine can't have so much detail, I think. A new article can be drafted on a user page before going "live" with it. Just a thought. - Hordaland (talk) 22:03, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Sleep medicine has been reverted.
Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline from Wikipedia. The external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. I removed the following link(s): http://zasleep.blogspot.com (matching the regex rule \bblog(?:cu|fa|harbor|mybrain|post|savy|spot|townhall)?\.com\b). If the external link you inserted or changed was to a blog, forum, free web hosting service, or similar site, then please check the information on the external site thoroughly. Note that such sites should probably not be linked to if they contain information that is in violation of the creator's copyright (see Linking to copyrighted works), or they are not written by a recognised, reliable source. Linking to sites that you are involved with is also strongly discouraged (see conflict of interest).
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page.
