Marsh shrew
Request
Article about a small mammal. Illustrations and images available are limited. There are drawings (dorsal, ventral, lateral) of the skull on the first page of this pdf. Is it possible to create a version of these drawings for use in the article? -- Gaff (talk) 05:23, 21 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Image's request under progression Request taken by Goran tek-en (talk) 11:08, 21 December 2014 (UTC). But I will not be able to start on it for about 12 days. So if that's OK I can do it. If you can't wait just remove this. --Goran tek-en (talk) 11:08, 21 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Gaff:  Question: Do you want all four different views and do you want them in separate files or all in one? --Goran tek-en (talk) 11:19, 21 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
There are more images at the University of Michigan Museum of Zoology and Department of Geography, UBC (under "species information"). They aren't under a free license, but might still be useful as an additional reference. --Maklaan (talk) 12:29, 21 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No rush. I will polish the prose and do other prep for GA review. All four skull images in one file may be best. There are pics of the animal in this pdf as well, including one of it eating a dragonfly. Here is one of it eating a slug. The skull in perhaps the easiest to generate.. @Goran tek-en: Still interested in this project? I'm not sure how long something like this might take. If it's much at all, feel free to say no. Gaff (talk) 21:38, 8 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Gaff: Yes I still want to do this but after I got back I got sick. I'm better now and will start to work on it within a couple of days. Sorry for that delay. --Goran tek-en (talk) 09:09, 9 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! Glad you are feeling better!! Gaff (talk) 04:09, 10 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Gaff: I have made a png version of a svg draft.  Question: I want you to look at this draft and tell if it's something like that that you want or if you more want like the drawing you provided? Draft to look at but remember it's a draft. Give me feedback before I continue. Tell me what you think, you are the one with the knowledge of the subject and you know what you want, not me. --Goran tek-en (talk) 14:51, 11 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I am very impressed. Nicely done. The most fine detail work will probably be the teeth. If you can get the skull from the side, that would be great. The view from underneath would be probably the most technically challenging and I am not sure we need it. Gaff (talk) 16:18, 11 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Gaff:@Maklaan: I would like to know if the teeth really are red on the top as in thoose images look at thoose images. Let me know, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 18:50, 15 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Goran tek-en: Yes: they are in the family of red-toothed shrews. Thank you.
@Gaff: Now there are two drafts for you to look at. side and above. You guys are the ones who has the knowledge of this, I just try to make it become a drawing. So tell me honestly what you think and what you want to change. This is for you not for me. I will work on the lower jaw now and then you tell me what else you want and I will see if I can make it happens. Get back to me with feedback, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 19:15, 17 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Goran tek-en: Looks great. This will definitely help the article. Gaff (talk) 19:24, 17 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Gaff:Yes but what other views do you want. --Goran tek-en (talk) 19:59, 17 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry! The view of the lower jaw/mandible would be sufficient. The view looking up at the skull from below would be nice, but not essential, since the other views give a good sense of the shape. Thank you. Gaff (talk) 20:04, 17 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Now there are three drafts to look at.

I have been working so much with details I'm not sure about the overall appearance. I have to leave it for some time and then view it again but I show them here meanwhile. Be honest and give me feedback on them, anything goes just tell me. You know what you want and you know the subject, I don't, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 19:21, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Goran tek-en: I think they will work just fine. Please let me know when you have them uploaded to Commons and I will put them in the article. You can always make improvements afterwards, if you feel the need, but these already will be very helpful! Gaff (talk) 20:44, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Gaff:Sorry, I haven't seen your replay until now. I will need the following for the three different files, thanks.
  • Name of the files
  • Descriptions
  • Category/ies
--Goran tek-en (talk) 13:39, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • File:Sorex bendirii skull top.svg
-- Description: Top view of the skull of the marsh shrew (Sorex bendirii)
  • File:Sorex bendirii skull side.svg
-- Description: Side view of the skull of the marsh shrew (Sorex bendirii)
  • File:Sorex bendirii skull base.svg
-- Description: Basal view of the skull of the marsh shrew (Sorex bendirii)
  • All can go in Categories: Sorex bendirii, Animal skulls, Soricidae skulls. I can add more if needed. --Gaff (talk) 17:05, 10 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Gaff: Now you can find them here;

Neil deGrasse Tyson signature[edit]

Article
Neil deGrasse Tyson
Request
Requesting a good quality image of Tyson's signature, preferably SVG, based on this photo on the bottom right and uploading it as File:Neil deGrasse Tyson signature.svg. There's other pics of his signature, such as [1] and [2], but the first one is the clearest I could find. Spellcast (talk) 07:59, 10 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Don't you still need to provide an appropriately licensed source for derivative work? If you can get me the sourced image, I can do it in InkScape, but do not want grief from the admins on Commons. Could this qualify for Fair Use here? --Gaff (talk) 04:46, 11 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Never mind, since it appears signatures are PD as "This file is ineligible for copyright and therefore in the public domain because it consists entirely of information that is common property and contains no original authorship."

So...Image's request under progression Request taken by Gaff (talk) 04:49, 11 February 2015 (UTC).[reply]

@Spellcast: -- okay? I can try to clean up more later or find a cleaner signature to scan off. --Gaff (talk) 05:28, 11 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, much appreciated! Just one little thing, you can remove the period at the end of the signature. It's easy to find photos of his signature or autograph online but the one I linked above is the only time I can see where it has a period. Spellcast (talk) 05:58, 11 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
