Request: Eugene Zelenko suggested that I use SVG format for drawings, instead of .png or .pdf, while writing the Wikibook Clock and Data Recovery.; I tried to comply with the suggestion, which makes a lot of sense, but failed. See an example.; The drawings are originated from a simulation software written with Open Office Calc (I wanted all the material of the book to be transferable to whomever shows interest).; I suspect that Open Office exports poorly to SVG, but it is not possible to convert from O/O the simulation program that costed me a lot of effort (except maybe to MS Excel..).; If you can help, I could mail the intermediate version of the diagram that is put together from Open Office Calc to Open Office Drawing, as well as another version of the .svg exported from it that uses only Déjà vu serif for the texts.; Suggestions on how to go from Open Office Calc to a good looking SVG file in Wikimedia Commons and Wikibooks are my request. -- Pierandrea Borgato 14:57, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

It always helps if one can test with the actual file. Sometimes I export as pdf and then open it in Inkscape. After that you often have to work a bit with the text and sometimes lines and stuff like that. I don't understand your request. If you're asking for the text portion that says "Prismatic" to be extracted as an SVG, we really need a vector source to base it on, perhaps from a PDF or similar. The logo (here, not on Commons) contains a photograph of Katy Perry. There is no way that the entire logo could be rendered correctly as an SVG for this reason. Just checking, have you incorporated all data points between April 2014 and December 2014 into the chart? We should import all of them, but it's quite hard to see whether that's the case on the updated chart itself, and the lines seem to be be a bit too straight after June 2014 or so. For some (strange) reason, the androidpolice.com search linked above lists the data point articles for some months in 2013 instead of the same months in 2014; for example, what's visible there for "02 Nov" is actually the November 2013 article. With some editing of the code I got the file to open now. The text there is not real text but outline which seems a bit unpractical. Maybe the diagram is generated in another program and then exported as svg, but the code said it was an Illustrator file so I don't really know what to think.

Any why I'm now changing the text to be real text and now I got to the date at the x-axis.

Now I finally got the file to pass as valid W3-code. I have made a few other changes in the file also, if you want anything changed let me know.

Is not time soon to break this diagram into several ones. Lets say one from 2009-2013 and then with one year overlap (2013) 2013-2017 and so on. It's getting very long and hard to overview, in the key it will be to many versions and eventually it will be hard to pick new colors. Regarding the size of the diagram, it should be fine for at least a few more years. Many articles include somewhat similar timelines, quite often spanning over ten years, as it's actually useful to have everything in one place. Also, the colors will be already picked as something easily distinguishable in the Android version history article, :) as the chart colors are actually the colors of various per-API-level subsections in that article. Finally, there are no similar neigboring colors and old Android versions slowly disappear over time, so the chart should stay readable.

With that in mind, could you please change the color for 5.0 "Lollipop" to #1FAEDE, as that's what the Android version history article uses for Android 5.0? Also, we should include data points for both February 2015 and March 2015; if I'm not wrong you've included only the March 2015 data, while plotting it as the February 2015 data?

Also, it would be great to include percentages on the right side of the chart as well; there's no axis there, of course, but that would make the chart much more readable. Either that, or making the division lines more visible and included for each 10% mark – I'd leave the choice to you. :)

Oh, and "Jellybean" should be written as "Jelly Bean", while having "Ice Cream Sandwich" span two lines is rather confusing: we should either have braces for all Android versions and single instances of their full names (as in the previous chart version), or full version names in all places. Graphist opinion(s): In fact some parts of the image are SVG (the two graphs themselves are not but all of the labels are). I uploaded it (see above). The trick is to save the page source and edit it to only include the <svg> element (plus you should add an XML declaration). I additionally extracted the two PNG images, losslessly compressed them, and re-added them to the document to bring down the file size to something reasonable. --Patrick87 (talk) 17:57, 12 April 2015 (UTC) (P.S. Basically all you need to extract the images is a text editor (although the HTML inspector included in most modern browsers makes it even a little more convenient). Open the SVG (or the HTML-page that includes the SVG respectively) and search for the <image> element that contains the PNG you want to extract (e.g. in Firefox you could right click on the image -> Inspect, and the correct element will be already highlighted). Copy the whole content of the xlink:href attribute (it looks something like xlink:href="data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0...", with everything from the comma being the base64 encoded binary data of the PNG). You can paste the data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0... part (without quotes) into the location bar of your browser and it should display just the image you want which can then be saved using "save page" in your browser.
Alternative: Extract the image from the PDF file using the command line tool "pdfimages" which is included in the Xpdf package. --Patrick87 (talk) 19:56, 12 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I tried it two different ways. The 'vector1' file (on the left) is me taking some liberties with the shape of the wave to make it more symmetric. The 'vector2' file (on the right) is a more accurate tracing of the .png file; I scaled the .png to 216% and took a best effort at tracing the outlines, including the somewhat irregular wave and waterline of the boat. None have the shading in the sails, all that can be seen is the material they are made from. So with that said, I drop the request for shading. Request: Would someone be able to make the following two symbols for some road signs I'm working on? They're a bit above my abilities, but I'd be very happy to attribute whoever can help me. The symbols are this one and this one. As you can see they're on a grid of 9 by 9 with each square being 50 and the width of the symbol also being 50. Request: Hi guys, can one of you awesome chaps knock up a vectorized version of this divisional flash? The above is the image already in the article. The following is the one from the Imperial War Museum website: link. Note, that the IWM version has additional stars/dots/bezants above Excalibur: can these be included. As for colours, as i note a difference in red tones, can we go for the one off the website? As for orientation, Excalibur is suppose to be pointing in the air as the above uploaded image indicates. In addition, can the following (link) also be traced and uploaded: It is hard to find images of the men of these divisions, and i think this would provide a nice image for the article - showing the evolution (if you like) of the divisional flash as well as improving the Devon and Cornwall County Division (The already uploaded version. Note the inferior make compared to the IWM version and the lack of bezants: File:Cornwall County Division Insignia.jpg ) article the one for the 73rd Brigade (if it ever gets created) - if nothing else can be found of the divisional chaps.

@EnigmaMcmxc: Here's a vector version (traced from the IWM .jpg, not the existing Wikimedia .jpg) for the 77th Infantry Division, let me know what you think. The shapes in the hand/fingers were difficult to discern from the IWM picture.

I'll try to tackle Devon & Cornwall later this week. For Devon & Cornwall, does the hilt and top edge of the shield generally slope up from left to right (as in the IWM jpg, with the point down as per the description) or does it slope down from left to right (as in the existing Wikimedia version)? Upon further examination of the Devon & Cornwall jpg from IWM, it appears the diagonal weave of the fabric has warped the pattern over time, after the divisional flash was printed. I applied a small vertical skew (think of making a rectangle into a parallelogram by shifting one side vertically) to make the stars on the field square and that effectively made the shield and hilt perfectly horizontal.
