Minor changes on the map at "Second Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights"

On the map at the article Second Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights - this map: [1] - El Salvador, Gabon and Macedonia (The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) must be dark green, to update the map (these countries have become parties to the Convention).

Like the SVG map of Ireland above, this image does not contain any text, what you see as text is just graphics. So the easiest way to make an English version would be to convert it to a bitmap, delete the "text", including where it overlies rivers, borders, etc., patch up the damaged rivers etc., and then add the English. Seems like a very awkward way of doing things, especially when it's easy to delete the existing text paths and replace them with raw text. I even went to the trouble of naming every path and organising all the different groups. It should be simple for someone with better language and history skills than I to complete the translation. -- A very naughty Boy!

This is much easier to handle than the Córdoba SVG above. It actually contains the text as text so it can easily be edited, e.g. the name "KHUNDZIA" is created by

That's because you are using the Futura font and Wikimedia doesn't support that font (it's not that common on Windows machines either, so most people won't be able to see it the way you intend). The renderer replaces all (English) sans-serif fonts with Liberation Sans (a freeware, open source font that is freely available on the net) so you will have much better control over text placing if you use that font, complete with pixel sizes rather than point sizes, eg "12px" rather than "12pt". FYI, Wikimedia uses Liberation Serif for serif fonts such as Times New Roman. Deja Vu Sans is also another free alternative used by Wikimedia. By the way, your file isn't a true SVG as it has a dirty great 4.5Mb PNG encapsulated in it with the text as an SVG overlay. That isn't an ideal way of using SVG and is classed as a "BadSVG" on Commons.--207.207.22.67 (talk) 10:07, 20 October 2014 (UTC)

I obtained CC licensed shapefiles for Treaty of Waitangi claims from Te Puni Kōkiri and put them up at https://github.com/stuartyeates/Te-Kahui-Mangai I anticipate that generating useful maps from layers in shapefile these should be relative straightforward for someone with the GIS right software and experience. I'm expecting 20~2000 layers in the shapefile with many / most not having any features. Please out the maps on commons, since these are likely to be useful in the Maori language wikipedia too. -- Stuartyeates (talk) 22:21, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

Map is needed to show the key locations in the trekking disaster, and to locate them (on an inset map?) within Nepal. The best map source is in this National Geographic article. It needs to show Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, the trekking route ("Annapurna Circuit"), Thorung La Pass, and settlements including Manang. These are maps of South Korea's five provinces under North Korean rule. All five of them look like they were scanned from a book, and they're all hard to read. Could you please make simple locator maps for them, drawn like File:Ghana-Northern.png or File:Lori.svg? The original upload of each image consists of such a map, but the book-scan upload was accompanied by an upload summary of "accurate borders", so apparently the original uploads aren't trustworthy. 65.210.65.16 (talk) 13:53, 23 October 2014 (UTC)

County Tipperary and Waterford City

On 3 June 2014, The Local Government Reform Act 2014 merged North Tipperary and South Tipperary into a single county called Tipperary, and also merged together Waterford City Council and Waterford County Council. So would someone please remove the border between North and South Tipperary and the border of Waterford City on all the above maps.

Maybe you are all set with Commons:Category:SVG locator maps of administrative counties in Ireland (location map scheme)? It incorporates the recent changes in Ireland. It features a different graphical approach, though. (There's clearly too much green when it comes to Ireland) Besides the different color, I don't show Northern Ireland's administrative borders, 'cause it's a different country (some folks don't get that straight ;-). "Your" maps above also show historic borders for Nothern Ireland, which annoys me the the most. For modern NI borders check out Commons:Category:SVG locator maps of districts in Northern Ireland (location map scheme). --TUBS (talk) 09:50, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
