Thanks. It seems to have lost a little detail (it's a little bit cloudier) in the process and not as sharp. Can that be tweaked? MarmadukePercy (talk) 17:46, 19 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
A gradual reduction in the quality of an image is to be expect every time it is manipulated. I gave it another go, adjusting the contract more this time to try to bring out the writing a little more, but I think some detail (such as the writing) is simply going to get lost no matter what. --RA (talk) 20:14, 19 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Could you pleasee upload such "improvements" with another name? Now the image is just black and white "line art", but it used to be a representation of a very real print, with all its defects, but also naturalness and beauty. I strongly oppose destroying my uploads with that kind of "improvement", so at least let my files exist alongside the "cleaned" (and IMHO not very attractive) versions. --AndreasPraefcke (talk) 16:14, 23 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s): That image is far too small and could never be unblurred to get back the detail, besides I persume the uploader made it from the original SVG image to get a 20px version but there is no need to have done that. Request: The image is a crop of an 18th-19th century (Edo period) Japanese painting of a hakutaku, intended as an "icon"/talisman, as described in the article. I'd like to add it to said article (especially since we have a relative paucity of images of the creature). The original painting, however, is EXTREMELY fragile, & i'm still trying to figure out how to scan it, without damaging it; so, for the near-to-forseeable future, a photo will have to do. Image needs contrast enhancement (at least) to show the lines of the drawing more clearly; could use other work, too. Lx 121 (talk) 07:58, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s):  Not done Sorry, real life obligations just got in the way, I can't spend time on this for a while. But I did find this image that could be used. I'm not sure what's allowed in terms of fair-use manipulation.
