I'd like some feedback before nominating this for featured portal status. GrapedApe (talk) 02:13, 24 June 2010 (UTC) GrapedApe (talk) 02:13, 24 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Looks good (well, it should do, you've copied an excellent example!!). I made a few minor format tweaks e.g. adding italics to (pictured). The selected articles have bold names at the start (e.g. 1922 Rose Bowl), the selected biographies have bold + links (e.g. Matthew Quay) so I'd suggest picking one style for consistency (probably the second, per Main Page tradition). I think the main problem at the moment is a shortage of articles and biographies: the Wikipedia:Portal guidelines suggest 20 or so, which may not be achievable at present despite your one-man-WikiProject efforts. Other more experienced portal content reviewers may have their opinions, but I think it would be a little difficult to add a bronze star to a portal with only three biographies, for example. Good luck! BencherliteTalk 10:15, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent start, GrapedApe. I particularly like the range of historical images you've amassed. I'd agree with Bencherlite that most featured portals have rather more content. I don't think you need to get too hung up over the magic 20 figure, as several portals have been promoted with significantly lower numbers of articles/bios, but 12–15 is a good minimum to aim at. You might also need to try to expand some of the selected articles, as a few feel somewhat brief (particularly Red & Black). Your blurb on the biographies might benefit from expansion. I've found a selected list section is a good way of bulking up the portal content; you've already got the list of buildings featured and there must be plenty of other potential list topics (alumni, sports, awards, chairs...). You might also consider adding a selection of quotations from alumni -- they needn't necessarily be about the college.

Is there an existing Wikiproject for the college? If not, you might find other people interested in expanding content if you were to try to start one. A few very minor points:

  • The portal text box headers are too dark to read on my CRT screen (though they might be ok on an LCD).
  • I'd suggest reducing the spare archive slots to 25, as 50 rather drowns the content.

I hope that this is helpful as you develop the portal! Espresso Addict (talk) 14:53, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Any objections to archiving this now? BencherliteTalk 15:42, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • That's fine. Thank you to the reviewers who gave good advice. --GrapedApe (talk) 17:30, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
