Religion[edit]

Yeah, I know a lot of work needs to be done with this before it ever achieves Featured status. Having said that, lemme know what specifics come to mind, other than regular rotation of content. I know that has to be done, and I'm hoping to get it set up for that in the near future. Badbilltucker 16:11, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • The page layout must be "BB" (before boxes ;-). The current arrangement is hard to follow and misplaced the box edit links. I'm going to convert it over to the box-header, box-footer style.
  • Selected image needs reformatting, I just took out the "thumb" for now.
  • In general, rotated content should follow some established format: type of rotation, links to archive, nominations, etc. After some basic overall design decisions are made, I'll help implement them. Rfrisbietalk 16:39, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • Created randomized rotation system for articles, pictures, biographies. Rfrisbietalk 16:25, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Subportals" > "Related portals". Possibly put the subportals as a subheading inside the section.
  • "Things you can do" includes just the "Article Improvement Drive", please format it properly.
  • Why are some of the headings italic and others are not?
  • The "Selected picture" section needs more prose, you should try add more information about Ayyavazhi.
  • Please include all the categories at the "Categories" section, rather than including the "Other Religion-categories" link.
  • "Philosophy and Religion Directory" is not a WikiProject, and all the WikiProjects are already provided there so there is no reason to add it. Michaelas10 (Talk) 13:54, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Like I said, I knew a lot needed to be done, but being a newbie at portals, I didn't know what all needed to be done. I am currently working on putting together some of the files and archives for rotation. This will of course be delayed depending on how long it takes to establish these files for rotating content in the first place, which will probably take longer than I expected, like everything else does. :) Upon completion of the files, I will do what I can to ensure that the layout will be according to the instructions above. Thanks again from a neophyte for assisting in his efforts. :) Badbilltucker 15:00, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The three main sections – articles, pictures, and religious figures – already are in rotation. All you have to do for those is add items as described on their archive pages. I can set up ay other rotated sections the same way. Rfrisbietalk 17:25, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Position of "Related portals": There is no consensus on this section's location. Wikipedia:Portal/Guidelines#What content to include states, "Subportals or Related Portals (if there are any) – Some portals have these appear near the top, just below the "Introduction" (e.g. Arts or Technology). Others have them appear near the bottom (e.g., Biology or Literature)." Since it has been moved from the top of the page to the bottom, no consensus exists here either. However, I won't bother moving it back to the top. Rfrisbietalk 17:19, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Add an "On this day" section, similar to Literature and others, for anniversaries, holidays, festivals, births, deaths, and other relevant, dated items.
    • I started the section and added it to the portal. As of now, we only need at least one more event for 364 days...(counting leap year ;-) Rfrisbietalk 04:02, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Add tabbed subpages, similar to Science and others.
    • I'll start setting up the "On this day" section "real soon now." I'll add tabbed subpages as the number and sizes of sections grow. Rfrisbietalk 19:27, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • This is a comment — the show new selections isn't showing up correctly on my browser (I'm using Firefox). The top box titled the Religion Portal is covering it up. sd31415 (sign here) 01:38, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • I "borrowed" a margin and padding setting from someone using Firefox. Please adjust it to be as narrow as possible because it looks very wide in IE. Rfrisbietalk 03:00, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Some more improvements:

  • Expand Introduction section. I am not in favor of listing religions in the Introduction section.
  • Please use images for the selected religious figures, like, God, Allah, Brahman.
  • Reduce the image size for some of the images in Selected picture section, like Image:Gayatri.jpg, Image:Lotus with Soal.jpg, Image:Thor.jpg, Image:Tree of Life Medieval.jpg.jpg, Image:Holygrail.jpg, Image:Heart2.jpg and more. Using 250px could be better for them.
  • Add Topics section. Religions in the Introduction section could be added in this. Add list of major religious institutes, like, temples, churches, mosques, gurdwaras and more. Add list of major religious figures.
    • Topics updated, major list links included. Rfrisbietalk 22:15, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Work on Things you can do section.
  • Use small image size for portals in Related portals. It could lead to leave the main portal by the reader.
    • Image size is typical of many, if not most, featured portals. Links are presented to provide the opportunity to follow them. This is not considered to be a fault of the link. Otherwise, the link should just be removed altogether. Rfrisbietalk 22:15, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Either remove commons entry from Associate wikimedia or create/link it properly.
  • Categories section could be shortened by having more than one categories in a single line.
