Wikipedia:Requests for feedback/2010 September 8

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

NIIT Technologies is a Tier 2 software service organization in India and is ranked among top 20 IT services company in India. Most of the IT services company in India already have information about them on Wiki so I thought of adding one for NIIt Technologies also.

It is a good start but I have several concerns.
First, you should read Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners. You listed several items in a section called "references" but none of them qualify as references because they haven't been formatted correctly.
You should at least glance at WP:MOS and/or look at some articles on other, similar companies, to get a sense of the look and feel of article layout. We have a well-established layout, which allows a lot of customization, but your style is not meeting the guidelines for headings, and, as mentioned, footnotes.
If you are part of the company, or closely associated, you need to read WP:COI. If you aren't part of the company, you need to explain why you are authorized to release the logo into the public domain. If you are authorized to release the logo into the public domain, are you really sure that's what you want to do?
You need to establish WP:Notability. I do see that you provided a number of references. However, one is the company website, acceptable as a source of info, but doesn't contribute to notability. One is Crunchbase, which doesn't confer notability. One is FaceBook, which is generally not acceptable as a reference (although it may be OK as an external link. One link was blocked by my company; doesn't prove it isn't an acceptable reliable source, but it will be a rare counter-example. One isn't online and one isn't in English, both of which are acceptable, but I haven't yet been able to see any evidence of notability.
This article may have potential, but it needs a fair amount of work to get it in shape. --SPhilbrickT 17:19, 13 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, if anyone could help as to how to place this in a review list to be added that'd be great, as from what I'm aware I'm unable to do this as a newbie! Thanks

Feedback request for: Random_Walker_(Computer_Vision)[edit]

I've written a new article and I'd like feedback in order to improve the article and to be able to remove the "new article" header. Thanks!

Hi,

I have created an article for Grimsby Traditional Smoked Fish. A popular regional food from Grimsby in the United Kingdom.

Grimsby Traditional Smoked Fish has Protected Geographical Indication status from the European Union. Examples of other regional foods with PGI status that have wikipedia articles are Champagne, Arbroath Smokie, Plymouth Gin and Chedder Cheese.

Pertinent information that, I feel, makes an article on Grimsby Traditional Smoked Fish particularly apt for inclusion in Wikipedia is a description about the traditional method of smoking fish explaining its difference to the more widely used mechanical method, plus the historical aspect of the method and the food itself.

This is my first Wikipedia article and any comments and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Please read WP:Notability. Writing a book doesn't qualify, you need to find multiple references in reliable sources--SPhilbrickT 22:50, 13 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

hi, i have written a page on Brandtology, a social media intelligence organization. I have kept the article neutral and provide numerous links to external 3rd party news sources. I would appreciate if you could help advice if the article is suitable for publication. Thank you.

This is my first attempt to create a Wikipedia article, as opposed to editing one. I am confident of the reputability of the authorities cited, as well as my own competence to compose material of this type. I describe a known genus of plants of intrinsic botanical and ecological/evolutionary interest, so I also am confident that the subject matter is suitable for an entry in an encyclopaedia.

What I am not confident of, is meeting less obvious requirements. Please comment accordingly.

JeanGeilland (talk) 13:20, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Better than most stubs. Encyclopedic subject matter and well cited. Needs some style input and formatting, but a great start. I've pasted it into the main article space. Conflict of interest: I'm Jean Geilland's son. --Slashme (talk) 19:04, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, it needs quite a bit of editing to suit Wikipedia's style: too much editorialising, and undue weight given to discussion of the guy whose name the genus carries. Does he have an article? Maybe he could get one? --Slashme (talk) 19:09, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is a major revision draft for the Legal Aid Ontario page. Since after viewing the change log for the Legal Aid Ontario page, and the fact the content remains unverifiable and in a stub form, I felt that the entire article required a serious re-write. What I've drafted here is content that covers the history of the organization, services and funding information. I think it's a reasonable improvement from what was there before but the content will require extensive peer review due to my COI.

I've mentioned it on my profile, but I'll say it again here. I am an employee of Legal Aid Ontario. I've tried to keep things as neutral and transparent as possible about my COI situation, but it's possible there may be some bias. I'll be uploading my own photos under a CC license soon (hence the image placeholders). This is also my first attempt at writing for Wikipedia, so if I made a mistake with something, please don't hesitate to tell me!

Oh, this is where I type my question. I submitted an article about the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Bay Area and didn't see this response area.

So, is this article good to go? I plan to add more to the body of the page, but this is the information I have to start with.

Lizmall (talk) 05:43, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've added another paragraph to the introduction and added a new section for programs and services. Is there anything else I should do to make this article ready for publication?

Request for someone to review the new article on Cale Sampson and remove "unreviewed article" header. Thank you!
