Issues to be mediated[edit]

Primary issues (added by the filing party)
  1. Does Malia Bouattia count as a black person or is it just political blackness?
  2. Should the Black British term classify her? And if so how to phrase it?
Additional issues (added by other parties)
  • Should the lead of the article state that Bouattia is black, although some dispute this view?

Parties' agreement to mediation[edit]

  1. Agree. Bharel (talk) 20:24, 31 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Demur. This is not "ripe" at this point, and, frankly, any RfC should be widely advertised as this may be a recurring issue for other BLPs. Collect (talk) 20:52, 31 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Agree. Phantom147 (talk) 21:03, 31 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  4. Agree. Orthogonal1 (talk) 22:09, 31 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Decision of the Mediation Committee[edit]

  • Reject. This is, at root, a contest of the closing of the RFC (which I recognize occurred after this case was filed) which states, "The content of the article should present a balanced point of view." that is, that both points of view should be represented in the article. This is, therefore, the wrong venue for this issue. Instead, follow the established procedure set out at Wikipedia:Closing_discussions#Challenging_other_closures. Since that process has not been exhausted, I'm going to reject this request under prerequisites to mediation #1 and #8, either of which would be alone sufficient to reject this case.
